Hey, Ylva! I'm glad you enjoyed your experience discovering this trilogy. The Skywalker Saga constitutes a modern mythology for four generations of viewers. I love Jabba! I get a kick out of how he's called Pizza the Hutt in "Spaceballs"! Lol. He is the pure embodiment of the id. The Hutts are the most powerful criminal cartel in the Star Wars galaxy controlling a vast portion of space outside the jurisdiction of the Core government be it Republic or Empire. They always represent a third power in the galaxy. Jabba's palace and lifestyle is modeled after Western concepts of the decadence and opulence of the cultures of the Orient during medieval and early modern history: Arab Caliphs, Persian Satraps, Ottoman Sultans, Tatar Emirs, Mongol Khans, Russian Czars and Indian Rajas. The Sail Barge is, of course, modeled after piratical swashbucklers; Jabba even has Luke walk the plank! The large mechanical arachnids with liquid-filled glass bulbs seen stalking through Jabba's palace are actually monks of the B'omarr Order who transplant their brains into those glass bulbs filled with a nutrient solution that keeps the brain alive. The purpose of the bodily separation is so that the monks can exist free of bodily sensation in order to achieve enlightenment. It's an ascetic philosophy taken to the utter extreme! Leia's barely-there slave outfit is one of her signature looks and is a very popular cosplay that was famously made light of on the TV show "Friends". Many impressionable pre-pubescent boys sprouted hair on their chest at the sight of her and carried a torch for the Princess well into adulthood! Lol. Boba Fett, the dreaded bounty hunter who delivered Han to Jabba, was long rumored to have survived falling into the gullet of the Sarlacc in the non-canonical Expanded Universe. The second season of "The Mandalorian" provides a definite answer on the subject! Femi Taylor, who played the Twi'lek dancer Jabba feeds to his pet Rancor, returned for dancing reshoots inserted into that horrific CGI musical number performed by Jabba's house band. Despite it being some 15 years later, her physique was unchanged and matched the old footage seamlessly! The two pale elderly gents in purple robes and headgear in the Emperor's entourage are part of the Imperial Ruling Council who handle daily administrative tasks. Believe it or not, action figures were made of them and they were officially named in a canon novel called "Tarkin" by James Luceno. Their names are Janus Greejatus and Kren Blista-Vanee. They're just pasty old bureaucrats but highly sought figures for Star Wars collectors! The Leia twist was hinted at in "Empire" when she sensed Luke from afar while he was dangling from the bottom of Bespin! Subtle sensations like that indicate that she has latent Force-sensitivity and has a connection to Luke. However, she never consciously manipulated the Force, never underwent training and never thought of herself as anything other than an Alderaanian princess which is why Vader never perceived anything amiss about her. Warwick Davis, who played the Ewok named Wicket who first comes upon Leia, has shown up in every Star Wars movie since in a cameo! He is the franchise's lucky penny! You may know him as the star of "Willow". Primitive guerilla fighters defending their native territory like the Ewoks have often had an advantage over a more technologically advanced, disciplined foe like the Empire. The Celts defeated the Romans, the Mongols defeated the Chinese, the Americans defeated the British, the Vietnamese defeated the Americans and the Afghans defeated the Russians. The fish-headed Mon Calamari Rebel Admiral Ackbar is a fan favorite and his delivery of the line, "It's a trap!", became a popular meme to this day! The Rebel pilot Wedge Antilles, played by Denis Lawson, survived two Death Star assaults and the battle on the ice world of Hoth! In the Expanded Universe that is no longer canonical, he became a legendary flight instructor for the New Republic's Flight Academy. Lawson is Ewan McGregor's uncle in real life! The tweaks to the remastered "Return of the Jedi" are the most egregious in the series including that dreadful CGI musical number in Jabba's palace, a beaked Sarlacc, Vader exclaiming, "Noooo!" and a young Anakin Force-ghost that replaced middle-aged Sebastian Shaw with young Hayden Christensen. However, you do get a glimpse of the city-planet Coruscant during the galaxy-wide celebration. Coruscant, the Galactic Capital, is a completely industrialized ecumenopolis from surface to core! Appearing prominently throughout the Prequel trilogy, Coruscant was most definitely inspired by Isaac Asimov's capital world of Trantor from the "Foundation" series.
So from a movie perspective, this was Jabba's original appearance. His "appearance" in A New Hope (Episode 4) was from a deleted scene where Jabba was played by a human because technology just wasn't up to animating a puppet of that size in a mobile manner. When technology progressed enough, Lucas restored it and used CGI to put Jabba in. To answer any lingering questions about leia (without other spoilers). Lucas was originally planning to have a continuing trilogy focusing on a different character being his sister because Luke would have turned to become the new Vader. However, the stress of making the trilogy of movies and the friction it caused in his then marriage forced him during Empire's production to change it around and conclude the saga with Return of the Jedi so they made Leia the sister. whether leia was supposed to be force sensitive to begin with (regardless if she was Luke's sister or not) i don't remember but the hint that she was at least force sensitive was hinted at the end of Empire when she "heard" Luke call for her. obviously in the many years since the original trilogy was made, it is explained that because she is related to Luke and her natural affinity to the force is what allowed her to hear him even though she was not trained.
RE: Skywalker siblings. This is some revisionist history, just like the claim that Star Wars was always intended to be a hexology (or even an ennealogy) telling the "Saga of Anakin Skywalker." When the original Star Wars came out, it was just "Star Wars" after its unexpected success, Lucas added the "Episode IV: A New Hope" because he was then thinking of getting the sequel made, and "Episode IV" appealed to his wish to give the movie a "flash Gordon" TV/Radio serials vibe. Lucas was a fan of Kurosawa, and while there were other inspirations, the major inspiration as to the plot of Star Wars was the latter's 1958 film, "The Hidden Fortress." There are other hints in the original Star Wars that the Darth Vader saga stuff was a later addition just by the way Vader is portrayed. While the character becomes arguably *the* main character of the subsequent films and the prequels, we see in Star Wars that he is just the muscle (scary though he might be) - Grand Moff Tarkin is really in charge. He orders Vader around, he warns Vader that the tracking device scheme "had better work," and he addresses Vader as simply "Vader," not "Lord Vader" like the other Imperial officers. Moreover, it seems to be common knowledge that Vader is the lackey based upon the way Leia talks about how Tarkin "holds Vader's leash" and how the other Imperial officers seem to be willing to mock his "devotion to that ancient religion" (c.f. how in Empire Strikes Back, everyone is afraid of Vader instead). Then there is 1978 novel "Splinter of the Mind's Eye," by Alan Dean Foster. The story of the novel was based upon a treatment Lucas had written for a low-budget sequel to Star Wars if the movie flopped. Of course, the movie was not a flop, so Lucas was able to get the budget to make Empire Strikes Back. Importantly for the sibling thing, in "Splinter of the Mind's Eye," the Luke-Leia romance is advanced (although later printings of the novel would be altered to get rid of this). In The Empire Strikes Back, there is no indication that Luke and Leia are siblings, hence the kiss, resulting in everyone's revulsion about it after the plot point is revealed in Return of the Jedi. The latent love triangle between Luke, Leia and Han would be resolved by the end of "Empire," because Han was originally going to be killed off (or otherwise removed from "Jedi"), with his role in the group being taken over by Lando. However, the filmmakers managed to get Harrison Ford back on board for "Jedi," which is great, but it made the love triangle a real problem. I think that what Lucas decided to do was retcon the sequel/spin-off bait line in Empire, "no there is another" to mean another *Skywalker,* even though Yoda said it in response to Obi-Wan remarking, "That boy was out last hope." At the time of the writing of the "Empire" script, Leia could not have been the intended object of this discussion because both Yoda and Obi-Wan were discouraging Luke from going to Cloud City to rescue his friends. Yoda even said that their deaths, implicitly includes Leia's death, would be an acceptable sacrifice for Luke remaining on Degobah to complete Jedi training, which makes no sense if one of these sacrifices would have been the "other" hope for the galaxy that the two were referencing. The result of all this was that Leia was retconned to be Luke's sister in "Jedi" to resolve the love triangle, and hope audiences forgive the kiss in "Empire" based upon character ignorance. The reality was that there was no grand story in Lucas' mind just waiting for the scripts to be written. There were instead a bunch of ideas floating around in his head that Lucas would pull from decades later when he decided to make the prequels. We can know this because of the way Luke asks Leia about their mother in "Jedi," which is incongruent with what happens in the prequels, which I will not spoil here. Additionally, the way both Obi-wan and Yoda speak about Anakin in the original trilogy seems to suggest that the Jedi celibacy thing was not yet decided upon (which is why they are Jedi *knights* not Jedi monks). Slavish adherence to what Lucas says about Star Wars after the fact to make it seem more planned-out than it was should not be done because by the time of the making of the prequels Lucas seems to have forgotten what made Star Wars great (see also e.g. James Cameron with "Terminator: Dark Fate" and Ridley Scott with "Prometheus"). The "Han Shot First" controversy demonstrates that Lucas either forgot or misunderstood why Han Solo was such a compelling character to audiences, and the ridiculous "Nooooooo!" as Vader throws the Emperor down the shaft shows that Lucas seems to have lost faith in the intelligence of the audience (Vader's emotional conflict was apparent from the body acting and shot editing - heck, the Viqueen even commented on this). Like many writers, Lucas needs a good editor to tell him "no" sometimes, and the needless, goofy and jarring additions made by Lucas when releasing the special editions of the original trilogy demonstrate why. The re-insertion of the Jabba scene in Star Wars is a good example. Lucas may have cut it out when making the film back in the '70's for technological reasons, but the way it makes Jabba far less menacing and spoils his reveal in "Jedi" show that it ought to have been cut for story reasons anyway. Similarly, cluttering up the frame with CGI comic relief to introduce Mos Eisley adds nothing to the world-building, delays the telling of the story, looks out of place, and was clearly added because Lucas *could* rather than for any narrative reason. The added galaxy-wide celebration scenes at the end of "Jedi" are also pointless, and raise questions unnecessarily. So the new Death Star, being constructed in secret in an out of the way place in the galaxy gets destroyed, then suddenly the rest of the galaxy immediately not only knows about it (were the Rebels livestreaming the attack in Twitch?) but immediately celebrate? Did they know the Emperor was there and got killed? There was no power struggle? The Empire just collapsed immediately? It was a foolish addition made because Lucas wanted to throw stuff from the prequels into "Jedi" as if he thought that the audience needed reminding that the six films had a connected meta story or something. I will also note that the best Star Wars movie, The Empire Strikes Back, was *not* directed by Lucas. Again, I want to avoid spoilers for the prequels, so all I can say is that Irvin Kershner obviously understands romance much better than Lucas does, "Empire" is better for it, and "Clones" shows why complete creative control by Lucas is not a good thing.
@@jwnomad Nah, it's been in more tales than Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. It's an archetype kind of line, like the characters that always pop up in epic tales--the plucky orphan who becomes the hero (Luke, Frodo, Harry Potter, Dorothy Gale), the wise old man who guides them (Obi-Wan, Gandalf, Dumbledore, Professor Marvel), and so on.
List of Special Edition edits: - The "Jedi Rocks" concert puppets were replaced with CGI, and the song changed. - The Twi'lek slave was given more scenes to build up the rancor. They even got the original actress in 1997! - The Sarlacc Pit was given more CG tentacles and a mouth. - The Ewoks now blink. - James Earl Jones recording saying "No, no!" in 2011. This is perhaps the most controversial edit. - The ending celebration includes shots of Tatooine, Cloud City, Coruscant (the galactic capital), and Naboo (location for many parts of the Prequel Trilogy) celebrating the Emperor's demise as well as the Rebels on Endor. Musical score also changed. - Sebastian Shaw (actor for unmasked Vader) replaced with Hayden Christensen. Lucas' reason is that Anakin manifested into who he was before becoming Darth Vader. There's a deleted scene where the Emperor's final command before his death was for the Death Star to target Endor, and the Imperial commander grappling with that decision.
@@ronponce8238 It just struck me as weird. Replace an upbeat happy song with a low-key pseudo-folk sleepy choir thing... yet another bewildering move on Lucas' part.
The CGI one that got re-added to New Hope looks like absolute SHIT!!! I wish they would take it back out, along with all the other stupid changes from the late 90s. Maybe someone will fix it when George Lucas is dead. He’s like the real life Jabba.
15:03 from what I recall I believe the intention for black outfit was to show that Luke had the potential to go to the dark side still. The light part showing here 37:07 is meant to convey he chose the light. I don’t remember if Lucas actually said that or if it was fan theory but I liked that. 36:54 I like your joy for this moment. I hope you watch the rest no matter what the haters say. They are fun for what they are. Loved your reactions.
the blue guy and sny snoeldes. the main singer and one other person in the band were in there originally and played a different song that was less dramatic. lucas added that in
Actually, Hayden Christensen went back in time to 1983. That's how he got to be in this movie. Haha, nää. De har gjort om den här trilogin typ 4 gånger eller något.
I believe the number of Legos needed falls into the quintillions. The Rancor's closest earth life form would be the crustacean family. In Episode IV, C3PO claims he not very good at story telling and by this film he has skills including the sound effects when he explains to the Ewoks why they are there. Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) knows how to use camera movement to simulate scale when framing the Death Star Interior - We know the ships are moving very fast yet the background moves just enough to provide distance. My favorite is still the Air Speeders from Hoth during the rescue mission as we 'flew' over those Snow Dunes.
3:55 "He demands so much respect." i doubt it. I would be everybody who spends any time with him hates him, not respects him. I think he engenders fear. Everybody fears him. And because they do, they show deference.
The Ewoks are smart enough to use what they have to the upmost. Their weapons may be primitive, but they employ them smartly and make the most of them. Notwithstanding anything else about them that some may find annoying, they are among the best fighters, because they do exactly that.
Firstly, shout-out to the editing on all three SW movie reactions. Loved all the transitions, wipes, dissolves etc 😁 Secondly, it’s always refreshing to see someone experience the Holy Trilogy for the first time without all the baggage of being a lifelong fan. The changes made for the various special editions may grate on many of us, but they really don’t affect the overall feel of the movies all that much for newer audiences. It’s just a shame that the original versions are so hard to come by.
Good point about the conflict between having to kill Vader and NOT killing Vader. I’m sure somebody has squared it call mom, but it seems to me more just a conflict in the story writing.
You are so pleasant and delightful to watch. You immerse in the movie and DONT try to make snarky comments to entertain us viewers. well done. Youre the only reviewer ive seen who reacts to the death star being fully functional: "you guys gotta get outta there." No one else seems to get the magnitude of that part of the trap....you're right: the death will end the battle real quick by blasting giant ship after giant ship in one shot.
If you haven't gotten around to watching Episode I yet, I recommend watching the movie "Fanboys" before doing so. There are NO spoilers for Episode I in it, so no need to worry on that. But it makes a great companion piece (and a neat transition piece) from the Original Trilogy to the Prequel Trilogy. It takes place in OUR universe, and the main characters are "Fanboys" of the Original Trilogy, reuniting to go on a road trip prior to Episode I hitting theaters. It's a good movie, and (minor spoiler) contains a LOT of cameos that you should recognize.
There were many CGI additions after the original theatrical release which was still in it's infancy. The original had just a smidgin of CGI. (The Tatooine CGI scenes were all added later). Some noteworthy trivia: Vader tortures his own daughter (Leia) in EP 4 (truth drug at the very least) & likely in EP 5 (Cloud City)(not shown, but was a logical conclusion). David Prowse (Vader's physical body actor) is 6'6" + 1" for the suit makes the Vader character 6'7" tall. Admiral Piet survives Vader's rath, but dies anyway as his ship crashes into the Death Star. Luke's wingman Wedge survives all 3 movies. They changed the ending a bit here as the Last "No" line was added, and they changed the Vader actor at the very, very end (after Vader dies) to that of Hayden Christensen. Now you should watch Spaceballs, if you haven't already.
so Yiva, here is the original ending when they had a different ewok song, but used the actor who played anikin when luke took his mask off as anikin skywalker, which makes more sense th-cam.com/video/TvXm5HuR72k/w-d-xo.html
I was 13 Years old in 1977 when I saw Star Wars in the Movie Theater and 16 Years old when I saw Episode V the Empire Strikes Back and 19 Years old in 1983 when I saw Episode Vi Return of the Jedi in the Movie Theatre. Everyone in the Movie Theatre was shocked and Gasped when we found out that Princess Leia was Lukes Twin sister. Anakin Skywalker was the Jedi who returned. Luke hinted at it when he told the emperor he was a Jedi like his father before him. Everyone in the Movie Theatre cheered when Darth Vader turned on the emperor by grabbing him. In the Original Movie Darth Vader does not yell no, He just keeps looking back and forth before grabbing the emperor. In the original movie the force ghost of Anakin Skywalker was portrayed by the older actor. George Lucas added in the Scene of having Han solo tell Princess Leia he Loved her so she could get the chance to tell Han I know. This original Star Wars Trilogy was very important to my generation of fans. Now you see why it is a beloved Movie Franchise. We had to wait Three years between episodes IV and V and Three Years between Episodes V and VI. We then had to wait 16 Years before Episode I.
You were watching the Special Editions so there's a number of scenes with CGI and they changed the music and stuff. Anakin Skywalker in the original version was played by Sebastian Shaw as you saw him when he died as Vader and his Force Ghost appeared at the end but here they replaced him with Hayden Christensen who played him in the Prequels...
Great fun reaction Yiva Enjoyed your comments ❤ the final scene with LS and DV/AS through the years has been really emotional knowing AS path. Cant wait for your reactions to the prequels😊
if you despecialized edition you can find a free theatrical edit high quality version of this that is far superior in my opinion. The tone is much or adult.
1. Best guess is that Han was Jabba's "trophy" for about a year and a half before the rescue. 2. Vader discovered Leia as Luke's sister because he could feel it through Luke. Luke didn't know that until just before then. 3. Luke's light saber is green because he lost his old one along with his hand so they decided to make it green because it worked better in the desert background landscape. 4. Everybody is freaking out because Luke and Leia kissed mostly because she was trying to piss off Han. They didn't know they are related. 5. The "I love you. I know" was written into the script to get Leia the shot to say it to Han. 6. This was Warrick Davis'/Lead Ewok first acting gig. He was only 13. Willow is his lead with Val Kilmer and worth a first time/share.😎 7. Awesome camera work with the race through the forest. Nobody in their right mind would go that fast. 8. A little corn. Hans' reaction to Leia telling him Luke is her brother. 9. Jedi is plural. With Luke and Leia leading the way they can reestablish the Jedi back into the galaxy. 10. Ford wanted Han to die in this episode. 11. This is the best of the original 6 George Lucas Star Wars. After this he sold it to Disney, and everything changed. Sadly
I happen to know that in the original plan they were supposed to be a secret sister of Luke’s who was not Leia. But they just decided to wrap it up like Game of Thrones season eight and put a bow on top, making Leia the secret sister… at the time they had this mentality that the latest one is the only important one- and they had no idea that people would still be watching this stuff 30 years later, and beyond! Habitually/ religiously, whatever you wanna call it, so it didn’t matter that Leah kissed Luke on the mouth once. In case you forgot, Luke lusted over Leia at first sight- he had a big crush on her! and she became part of his motivation for all of his efforts leaving home. I’ve heard some people say Leia is Luke’s girl no matter what. In the case of Han Solo, Harrison Ford didn’t want to be him anymore I blame the Star Wars Holiday special on that. They froze him at the end of episode five not being sure what to do with him, because he actually wanted to be killed off. Notice how Lando popped in, conveniently at the end wearing Han Solo’s clothes! Also, he used to own the millennium falcon, so I can’t think of another set up. That’s more perfect for replacement than that. And he had the hots for Leia.
"BBQ up some stormtroopers, eh?" You joke, but... You remember when Han, Luke, Chewie, and the droids first met the Ewoks and they were going to cook and eat Han? Yeeeeeeah... They totally ate a bunch of stormtroopers at that celebration.
you asked about her using the force. there was a reason at the end of empire when he reached out with his mind she wsa the one who knew where he was, she had a stronger ability to connect
In my special edition VHS of the trilogy, I don't hear Vader yell NOOOOO while throwing the emperor off the edge.. Still the same as the original despite some major CGI updates and in my version, Jabba in episode 4 looks like a PS 1 pixelated unfinished graphics. But I'll let it slide.
Great freakin' reaction! I love all three of your Star Wars reactions (hopefully one day you'll be able to see the original theatrical versions). I love how excited you got when the Ewoks blew the horns signaling the time to attack, it's an awesome goosebump inducing moment (you don't really think to hard about it at first but the more it goes on, the more exciting it gets). I first saw this when I was 11 years old (I'm 51 now) and I cried then and I still shed a tear when both Yoda and Darth Vader die. Anakin's redemption is my favorite moment in the movie. And your right, you know the Ewoks had a grand BBQ feast. Return Of The Jedi had a lot more comedic moments than you're expecting it to. You definitely need to react to the prequels , it'll be totally worth it. Another great moment is the way the movie switches between the three battles at the end, it's goosebump inducing as well! Again great reaction as always (I'm so stoked that I discovered your channel recently). Many blessings to you and yours! P.S......I haven't commented on them yet but I loved your reactions to "Crisis On Earth X" and I'm definitely going to watch your reactions to "Crisis On Infinite Earths". Take care!
Thank you so much for your generosity and enthusiasm! I also see you're a recent member of my channel!! A fun perk of being a member is that I anoint you with a Viking name, I'll be doing so today during my live stream (2pm PST). I'll let you know your anointed name and the video link if you're not able to make the live stream! Thanks again 😁
Hiya, You really should take a look at BattleStar Galactica (2000s version). If anything it’s actually slightly better than The Expanse for the Human drama and story telling elements (cool space stuff too). 👍
Hi there. Funny thing how you noticed that Han and Leia had chemistry in ESB (episode V), because I heard that they had a thing behind the scenes. Not a rumour, one of them apparently (I didn't read it myself), wrote about it in a book. So according to that, the scene where Leia meets Lando Calrissian she and Harrison Ford had been drinking together and he was hung over and I think she was still tipsy. Have another look at that scene. I guess that was the director's problem, but he got a decent take out of them. 🤔👍 Also I think that they hadn't slept before the scene. I can't talk. I was worse. Not that I was in a movie, but I have been an actor and I have been up all night after going out drinking. 😮😂
Changing the movie to have young Anakin as a force-ghost at the end rather than the older version is the one change I despise about the modified version of the film. You don't see Obi-Wan being replaced by Ewan McGregor's younger version, so shouldn't older Anikin be shown too?
This is original ending before they adding young Anakin from the Prequels .It has diff music and features Old Anakin in his Jedi Robes with Yoda and Obi Wan th-cam.com/video/TvXm5HuR72k/w-d-xo.html
Luke and Leya was never a love interest to each other. Leya kissed Luke to make Hans jealous. Luke had his mind on loosing people's close to him and vengeance
ummm YOU caNT TORTURE A ROBOT its a machine... like smashing a a toaster, its no big deal, you cant beat the hell out of a printer it is not human. A robot is a machine no matter what it looks like, its not a human, even its programmed to scream
You've peaked here... Personally, leave it here and forget the rest. If you have to, for completion, watch the prequels. But the sequels are abysmal, watching you watch these reminded me of how I felt as a kid watching and rewatching them, but I really don't want to see you go through the mental gymnastics of watching the sequels, then try to understand what's missing... finally settlening on everything!
Lucas was not a good writer and all the original 3 movies were written on the fly. He had an idea and a narrative before script writing started but while writing the script he changed pretty much everything. That is honestly why the story is a bit disjointed. The idea of Leia being his sister was added while writing the script for this movie. Lucas was a little more different with the prequels but his attitude to film making was to change things to fit what he visually wanted. So story continuity really is not a thing like it is in today's media. People who were kids remember the experience of these first few movies as kids and love them as we age but they really were not written well even though the stories are fun. Almost all backstory these movies give are redone in the prequels and things they said are changed to fit the newer stories created.
Question for u...What is a "Viqueen?" I've head of VisCounts & VisCountess in ariistratic gentry nobility of Europe, but nvr a "Viqueen." Don't worry, I've watched many of your reactions & enjoy them. So, I've seen your flag in the background. If it has something to do w/"that" I really don't care (my daughter is Bi), I'm really just curious what "Viqueen" means. :)
All the changes made later by Lucas only make this movie and the first two ones worse. Evey single one of the changes are bad and diminish the result. I find them infuriating!
Jesus, I’ve watched this movie perhaps a thousand times and it never occurred to me that the Ewoks definitely ate all of those dead stormtroopers. 😂
Really? It was obvious to me when I saw it in the theatre during it's original run.
Actually, it never occurred to me either. I'm 51 & hv bn watching these movies for yrs. As to David B below, I don't know how obvious it was at time of release. Glad you enjoyed it!
One of the best star wars movies out there
I 2nd the comment below. Now that you've watched Ep 4, 5 & 6 - Spaceballs will be a nice comedy release.
Happy new year from Chicago.
Happy New Year, thanks so much!!
This is some revisionist history, just like the claim that Star Wars was always intended to be a hexology (or even an ennealogy) telling the "Saga of Anakin Skywalker."
When the original Star Wars came out, it was just "Star Wars" after its unexpected success, Lucas added the "Episode IV: A New Hope" because he was then thinking of getting the sequel made, and "Episode IV" appealed to his wish to give the movie a "flash Gordon" TV/Radio serials vibe.
I've got to save you.'
'You already have.'
Powerful as hell.
So good Peter Jackson had to steal it for Theoden
@@jwnomad Nah, it's been in more tales than Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. It's an archetype kind of line, like the characters that always pop up in epic tales--the plucky orphan who becomes the hero (Luke, Frodo, Harry Potter, Dorothy Gale), the wise old man who guides them (Obi-Wan, Gandalf, Dumbledore, Professor Marvel), and so on.
List of Special Edition edits:
- The "Jedi Rocks" concert puppets were replaced with CGI, and the song changed.
These include the Blu-ray changes. Prior to that, Ewoks didn't blink, and Vader didn't say "Noooo" when turning against the Emperor.
Of all the changes, nothing hurts more than the removal of Yub Nub😢
@@ronponce8238 It just struck me as weird. Replace an upbeat happy song with a low-key pseudo-folk sleepy choir thing... yet another bewildering move on Lucas' part.
Jabba wasn't changed. In fact he had 4 puppeteers in him to work all of his motion! They did an amazing job!
The CGI one that got re-added to New Hope looks like absolute SHIT!!! I wish they would take it back out, along with all the other stupid changes from the late 90s. Maybe someone will fix it when George Lucas is dead. He’s like the real life Jabba.
@@JayPadrig Yes I was referring to this Jabba that I had seen in my first Star Wars reaction, Jabba in this one was great!
6! 6 people inside Jabba!
Will definitely check out more Star Wars! Thanks for watching, glad you like my reactions! 😁
the blue guy and sny snoeldes. the main singer and one other person in the band were in there originally and played a different song that was less dramatic. lucas added that in
Actually, Hayden Christensen went back in time to 1983. That's how he got to be in this movie. Haha, nää. De har gjort om den här trilogin typ 4 gånger eller något.
Gotta love leia's outift in this one eh 😉
3:55 "He demands so much respect."
i doubt it.
I would be everybody who spends any time with him hates him, not respects him.
I think he engenders fear.
Everybody fears him.
And because they do, they show deference.
glad you enjoyed it!
The Ewoks are smart enough to use what they have to the upmost. Their weapons may be primitive, but they employ them smartly and make the most of them. Notwithstanding anything else about them that some may find annoying, they are among the best fighters, because they do exactly that.
And of course the prequel trilogy ... the clone wars as a movie then seasons 1-7 all that takes place between episode 2 and 3
Firstly, shout-out to the editing on all three SW movie reactions. Loved all the transitions, wipes, dissolves etc 😁
Secondly, it’s always refreshing to see someone experience the Holy Trilogy for the first time without all the baggage of being a lifelong fan.
Thank you, I'm glad you liked my reaction! This movie was great!
Happy New year
Happy new year!! 🎉🎊🎉🎊
Much better!
Nice. Get on them prequels.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!

She kissed Luke to piss off Han and make him jealous.
All others here just pecks.
Hey! Ylva Really enjoyed your epic Star Wars trilogy ut was amazing as are you!!!
The possibility of Luke going to the dark side was teased by him wearing black. But the truth was hidden under the flap of his shirt.
if you despecialized edition you can find a free theatrical edit high quality version of this that is far superior in my opinion. The tone is much or adult.
1. Best guess is that Han was Jabba's "trophy" for about a year and a half before the rescue.
2. Vader discovered Leia as Luke's sister because he could feel it through Luke.
Luke didn't know that until just before then.
3. Luke's light saber is green because he lost his old one along with his hand so they
decided to make it green because it worked better in the desert background landscape.
4. Everybody is freaking out because Luke and Leia kissed mostly because she was trying
to piss off Han. They didn't know they are related.
5. The "I love you. I know" was written into the script to get Leia the shot to say it to Han.
6. This was Warrick Davis'/Lead Ewok first acting gig. He was only 13.
Willow is his lead with Val Kilmer and worth a first time/share.😎
Sadly
A strong debate could be made that episode 3 is the best in the series
There were six original stories.@@killablackmambakbm7593
You might want to adjust your wording on #11. As written, it makes it seem like Lucas sold to Disney after this one, rather than after #3.
Definitely looking fwd to you watching Ep 1, 2, 3 & Rogue One. You'll enjoy the rest of your Star Wars journey I grantee it.
If you’d like some more classic sci-fi, Inhighly recommend the original Planet of the Apes from 1968, its sequels, and the reboot trilogy
Oh, I strongly support the recommendation of the 1968 original, which is awesome. All the others after that are just trash, in my opinion.
Jabba is actually one of things that Lucas didn't change. He was a puppet in this film. The other movies he did a CGI Jabba
"BBQ up some stormtroopers, eh?" You joke, but... You remember when Han, Luke, Chewie, and the droids first met the Ewoks and they were going to cook and eat Han? Yeeeeeeah... They totally ate a bunch of stormtroopers at that celebration.
You're going to love it. At least I hope you do. 😘
you asked about her using the force. there was a reason at the end of empire when he reached out with his mind she wsa the one who knew where he was, she had a stronger ability to connect
See From Star Wars to Jedi the Making of a Saga for all the making of and original parts
Hiya, You really should take a look at BattleStar Galactica (2000s version). If anything it’s actually slightly better than The Expanse for the Human drama and story telling elements (cool space stuff too). 👍
I've definitely been recommended that a lot, will definitely add it to my list!

fyi :)
so what do Santa clause, the jolly green giant and Jabba all have in common?
they are all very large and all say HO HO HO
😂😂
Also I think that they hadn't slept before the scene. I can't talk. I was worse. Not that I was in a movie, but I have been an actor and I have been up all night after going out drinking. 😮😂
david prowse who is in the vader costume is like 6'10 so vader is very tall

After everyone shitting on 3PO for three movies, it's kinda nice to see him worshipped as a god by the Ewoks. :)

You've peaked here...
Personally, leave it here and forget the rest.
If you have to, for completion, watch the prequels.
But the sequels are abysmal, watching you watch these reminded me of how I felt as a kid watching and rewatching them, but I really don't want to see you go through the mental gymnastics of watching the sequels, then try to understand what's missing... finally settlening on everything!
this one was my favourite was a kid but now i cant stand the ewoks
I loved the Ewoks as a kid but they are funny now.
All the changes made later by Lucas only make this movie and the first two ones worse. Evey single one of the changes are bad and diminish the result. I find them infuriating!
the special edition of episode 5 actually works and improves it, updating the emperors appearance and adding windows to cloud city were good changes
