Leia doesn't tell Han because she's still processing the thunderbolt revelation that Luke had just dumped in her lap - learning that she not only has a brother, and that her worst enemy is also her father, but also that Luke could die, or worse - fall to the dark side and become like Vader.
This is a really rare reaction. Every one I've seen has watched the special editions with all of George's tinkering over the years, but this original version will always be the best to me. Vader's silent betrayal of the Emperor has always held more impact than adding dialog to the later versions.
Hundred percent agree on a silent Vader being more impactful. There's a story that in the first movie, when Luke finds Uncle Owen and Aunt Peru's bodies, Mark Hamil's first instinct was to give a really dramatic, emotional reaction, but Lucas told him to tone it down into the more understated performance so the audience can project their own emotions onto him. I think similar thing happens with silent Vader, we're just seeing a mask turn back and forth, but we can intuit the conflict within him instead of being told how he feels by him yelling melodramatically.
Couldn't agree more with your assessments. Having Vader telegraph his turning on the Emperor by saying "No" is the one unforgivable change Lucas made in my opinion. It wasn't originally planned for Leia to be Lukes twin sister. They were originally going to introduce another character but in the making of this movie decided they didn't have enough time to bring in another character so they went with Leia. On the other part of seeing a love triangle I never saw it the first kiss was in the middle of trying to escape I didn't see any romance between Luke and Leia then and the two kisses in the 2nd movie one was clearly to make Solo jealous and the other was out of relief that they found Luke and he was alive not a single ounce of romantic feelings were in any of those situations.

Yub Nub! Detailed puppetry in Jabba's palace instead of dodgy CGI! Hell, I can tell when it is an original OT movie from the not-hyper-purple colour palette.
A couple quick things: --I told a friend of mine that the line "It's all right. I can see a whole lot better" used to be "It's all right-trust me" and he didn't believe me! --It was so fortunate that the wonderful actor who played the Emperor in real life is younger than the actor who played Han Solo (he's only 7 years older than the actor who played Luke) This means that he got to play his younger self in the prequels. (And let's face it-it didn't have to be a young actor-he didn't have any taxing parts, just to sit there and cackle sarcastically and hold his hands out like he's zapping Luke)
The end of the Empire Strikes Back where Luke was hanging from the antenna in Sky City, Leia could feel his distress and his cry for help. That was a clue as to their connection and her force-sensitivity. You don't really think much about it at the time but in retrospect it makes sense.
I like how Mark Hamill joked about how he couldn't get any breaks (as Luke) He finds the most eligible girl in the galaxy, and it turns out to be his sister! Hehe!
@@bigredtlc1828 I don't want to add spoilers for these guys, but suffice it to say that my sequels are the EU (or "Legends") books, not the Disney stuff
So Amanda, you have joined the very select group of Original Release first watchers, like our generation. It is almost impossible to see these movies with the other's eyes- not bad or good, it is just a completely different experience as you go through the movies.
Oh you watched the unmodified version - cool! I did like how the Thrawn trilogy and Jedi Academy books expanded the universe. Sadly, all of the expanded book universe was discarded for the sequel trilogy.
1. Best guess is that Han was Jabba's "trophy" for about a year and a half before the rescue. 2. Vader discovered Leia as Luke's sister because he could feel it in Luke. Luke didn't know that until just before then. 3. Luke's light saber is green because he lost his old one along with his hand so they decided to make it green because it worked better in the desert background landscape. 4. Everybody is freaking out because Luke and Leia kissed mostly because she was trying to piss off Han. They didn't know they are related. 5. The "I love you. I know" was written into the script to get Leia the shot to say it to Han. 6. This was Warrick Davis'/Lead Ewok first acting gig. He was only 13. Willow is his lead with Val Kilmer and worth a first time/share.😎 7. Awesome camera work with the race through the forest. Nobody in their right mind would go that fast. 8. A little corn. Hans' reaction to Leia telling him Luke is her brother. 9. Jedi is plural. With Luke and Leia leading the way they can reestablish the Jedi back into the galaxy. 10. Ford wanted Han to die in this episode. 11. This is the best of the original 6 George Lucas Star Wars. After this he sold it to Disney, and everything changed. Sadly May the 4th be with you.
This has got to be the first time someone on YT has reacted to the original instead of the 2001 version. you can tell because Anakin's ghost (its the only time Sebastian Shaw got screentime outside the Vader suit). bravo for that
Oh wow. I havent seen that version since I last watched it on VHS in 1995. Im glad you were able to watch the version we all grew up with. And now that i have kids, its good to know this version is out there. Well done.🎉
The original Star Wars (4) came out the month that I graduated from high school. The original trilogy were my favorites, and I've seen them many times. Parts 1, 2, and 3 came out years later, but couldn't capture the same magic for me; I watched them once each. My wife tells me we saw 7, but I don't remember it. I still haven't seen 8 and 9.
I Wholeheartedly agree with Cerulean Blu's comment. Thank you so much for giving the original 1983 version what it deserves. God bless you and may the force be with you.
I enjoy watching reactions to seeing SW for the first time and you two really seemed to have a genuinely good experience. The first three movies, episodes 4-6 are called the OT (Old Trilogy), episodes 1-3 called the Prequels and the finally episodes 7-9 the Sequels. By the time you get to watching the Sequels, which was done by Kathleen Kennedy/Disney you may understand why the fandom of SW is so split and why so many hate Disney and have even stop watching any SW product.
I've been watching Star Wars since 77 and after all these years I've come to a conclusion that R2-D2 is the first Jedi Droid, because he's a warrior and fearless.
Here is something that people don't always notice, Yoda or Ben wouldn't give Luke the rank of Jedi Knight but when Luke threw away his lightsaber Palpatine gave him the rank. I always found that interesting.
Star Wars is like the MCU... Order of release for first time watching. Sure, some movies or series will be viewed out of chronological order but they are, as a whole, chronicles. They are made to have reveals, then show you what happened before, then skip ahead forward, then go back again. They are made that way. Trying to watch them in any other way will eventually cheat you of many surprises and twists. Once you've seen the whole, then you can go back and watch them in any order you wish.
The trilogy takes place over 4 years in the story. There’s about a 3 year story gap between Episode 4 and 5, and a 1 year story gap between the last movie and this one. Between 5 and 6, Luke spent his time training, even going to Obi-Wan’s old hut to read his journals, learning of the past and furthering his knowledge about the Jedi.
Now after you watch the prequels, Clone Wars, Bad Batch, Rebels, Kenobi, Andor, Rogur One and Tales of the Jedi, you can watch this again, in the special edition. You may end up loving Anakin Skywalker.
It is widely held that the Original Trilogy timeline is: Events of Star Wars - Three years gap - Events of TESB - Six months to a year gap - Events of ROTJ The OT vs the PT. They are both trilogies of movies for both kids and adults. But the OT treats kids like adults and PT treats adults like kids.
Regarding the kiss scene between Luke and Leia; that was mostly a goof on Lucas' part because he had forgotten that moment was written. These days, it's mostly dismissed because Leia wanted to give a "F-- You" to Han by kissing someone else in front of him. At the end of The Empire Strikes Back, we learn there is a connection between Luke and Leia, and there is roughly a year's gap between ESB and ROTJ. Maybe Leia figured it out then? I don't know. EDIT To answer your question if Vader knew he had twin children, no. He spent many years in guilt ridden agony believing he had killed his wife and child before the child was born. Some time before ESB, Vader had suffered a lot of shame and humiliation for the Death Star's destruction, and he became obsessed with getting revenge on the pilot responsible. He hired Boba Fett to track him down and bring him to Vader. Due to circumstances, Fett failed, but he was able to learn the pilots' name and tell Vader; Luke Skywalker. In that moment, any thought of torturing and butchering the pilot vanished. Vader was in a mess of emotions; shock, surprise, sorrow, joy and wrath. He had been told by the Emperor that he killed his wife, but if she survived long enough to give birth, that meant the Emperor straight up lied to his face, causing the biggest source of his misery for decades. "A son..." Vader spoke softly to himself. "I have a son..." The harsh grate in his voice returned as his determination rose. "He will be mine." EDIT To answer your question the Emperor and Luke, the Emperor was baiting Luke into turning towards the Dark Side. As a Jedi, Luke would have the potential to destroy the Emperor. But if he gave into temptation and darker emotions such as anger, then the Emperor would own him, just like he owned Vader. It's about taking the most powerful threat against you and turning it into your slave. The Emperor didn't care about the rebels or their fleet, his sole focus on that moment was Luke. By making Vader stand next to him as a reminder "Hey, I'm the one who took your dad away and turned him into a monster," while watching his friends die by the thousands, the Emperor was trying to goad Luke into turning to the Dark Side, thereby forever extinguishing the Jedi from the galaxy forever. EDIT Good Lord, last one. There's two reasons why Vader died. Without giving too much away, he suffered severe traumatic injuries that forced him to wear a suit to live. The sound he makes is the suit breathing for him because his lungs were severely damaged. In the past, when his suit was damaged, Vader relied on the Dark Side to keep him alive until the suit was repaired. So when he saved Luke, he rejected the Dark Side, and when the Emperor's lightning destroyed the respirator system in the suit, that pretty much sealed his fate. But it gave him enough time to share some words with his son and become one with the Force.
Wow, you got to watch the original 1983 version of Return of the Jedi! In 1997, Episodes 4, 5, and 6 were re-released in theaters as "Special Editions" with added special effects and new scenes. Since then, the Special Editions have been the only versions of the movies made commercially available despite fans desperately wanting official releases of the original theatrical versions on modern home media. The Special Editions have long been controversial among fans, as they felt that the changes that were made to the films were completely unnecessary, and there were concerns that such a practice would lead to a culture of rampant revisions made by finicky filmmakers constantly wanting to re-edit their movies over and over again until they no longer resembled the original work.
I was not aware that you could get the OG pre Special Edition version any more as the last time I saw it, it was on Old VHS before Special Edition all the DVD and Blu Ray have been after Special Edition with all the Extra edits to tie in better with Episodes 1, 2 and 3

The 11 films, including Rogue One, and the Solo film cost 1.8 billion to make, and grossed at the box office 10.3 billion. They also have had many animation releases in both tv and films, as well as full action the TV series as well we see on Disney+. Don't forget that George Lucas made a deal that he owned for all of his projects from 1977 on, all rights for all of the toys, dolls, etc... Worth Billions. It was a big theater and we were all amazed by what we saw.
It was great to watch the original ROTJ again without the digital changes. Such an inspirational and magical story of a son who redeems his father. Thank you!
Vader died because the Emperor's force lightning shorted out the life support systems in his suit. The Emperor designed it to be specifically weak to electricity as a way of ensuring Vader would always be weak against him. Sith practice promotion by murder. But he never counted on Vader taking that L willingly to save his son.
Airplane 2 had an opening crawl. It was obviously inspired by Star Wars. The old Universal serials also had opening crawls. They were what had inspired George Lucas
45:11 It is so amusing to watch these ladies get so involved in this movie. 😆 My mother was their age when she took me and my brother to see this at the theater, and to her it was just another kid's action movie to sit through with us. "🙄"

I grew up with the originals, and while the prequels do have a different vibe, they are still very good. They should have a different vibe because it was a different era where there were a lot of Jedi and the Emperor hadn't been revealed yet. So different vibe, but still a great story.

in fact, the movie Spacebowls, which is mostly a parody of Star Wars, starts the same way - credits disappearing into the distance. then the big laugh starts! have you heard of Dark Helmet?
Vader's suit was specificaly design to make him suffer and more immersed in the Dark Side (as well as sustaining his life for reasons you will see in Ep3) and designed to be vulnerable to the Emperor's lightning power...
In the original script, Leia was not Luke's sister. Instead, we never meet his sister. She was to be from another planet we had not yet seen, but she was to be the subject of the sequels. Lucas was so fed up and exhausted with the process of making the movies though, that he scrapped the idea of making any sequels and instead made Leia the sister. Shame, because I'm sure he would have written a far better Rey than Abrams and Disney did.
-The thing you kept wondering about in Jabba's lair was a Kowakian monkey-lizard named Salacious B. Crumb... -Also, the trilogies are set up like the breakdown of a movie. The 3 act structure. The Setup, The Confrontation and then The Resolution. The original trilogy was one movie and Lucas broke it up to be more manageable with the hope of being able to do the other 2. He gambled and it payed off. That is why the first movie is so "slow" and the second is beloved the most.

Boba Fett learned that the pilot’s name who destroyed the Death Star was Skywalker and he reported that to Vader. There’s comics about it. --I told a friend of mine that the line "It's all right.
"That thing is huge."Just a Star Wars universe note, the Rancor beneath Jabba's throne room was a juvenile, the adults are bigger.
Hehe!
@@SJHFoto Yeh, and he got no love in the latest movies either. Ruined Luke completely, IMO.
@@bigredtlc1828 I don't want to add spoilers for these guys, but suffice it to say that my sequels are the EU (or "Legends") books, not the Disney stuff
Love that you commented that C3PO absolutely shouldn’t be on Endor with them. They’re wearing camouflage but traveling with a shiny gold robot lol
Thank you for watching this version of the movie, it's the best one.
3. Luke's light saber is green because he lost his old one along with his hand so they
decided to make it green because it worked better in the desert background landscape.
4. Everybody is freaking out because Luke and Leia kissed mostly because she was trying
to piss off Han. They didn't know they are related.
5. The "I love you. I know" was written into the script to get Leia the shot to say it to Han.
6. This was Warrick Davis'/Lead Ewok first acting gig. He was only 13.
Willow is his lead with Val Kilmer and worth a first time/share.😎
Sadly
May the 4th be with you.
10. Addendum: Ford only agreed to do The Force Awakens if Han died. For whatever reason he didn't like playing Han
He probably sold the franchise because he got tired of it's toxic fanbase.
Disney has done both good and bad things with the franchise.
In Universe time It has been about a year and some months
Actually, Ford wanted Han to die in Empire Strokes Back. But that did not happen.
@0816 M3RC Mostly bad. And even the good they screwed up for very bad reasons.
This has got to be the first time someone on YT has reacted to the original instead of the 2001 version. you can tell because Anakin's ghost (its the only time Sebastian Shaw got screentime outside the Vader suit). bravo for that
David Prowse was in the Vader suit. Unless you are talking about the shot with Shaw at the end when Luke removes his helmet
Thank GOD you watched the De-specialized version. The dance hall scene at Jabba's palace was replaced with a pitiful CG sequence.
Oh wow. I havent seen that version since I last watched it on VHS in 1995.
Im glad you were able to watch the version we all grew up with. And now that i have kids, its good to know this version is out there. Well done.🎉
Perfect day to release this, although im glad its finally here. Cant wait to see your friends' take on the finale to the OT.
Good job picking the right version to watch.
7:19 yep.
Me the second I see Vader has eyebrows; "Oh hey we're watching the original version."
If your interested, the ewoks from this movie had two t.v. movies released. (The ewoks caravan of courage and the ewoks battle for endor.)
The technique of presenting a scrolling recap of what’s already happened was used in 1930s and 40s movie serials, such as Flash Gordon.
Now after you watch the prequels, Clone Wars, Bad Batch, Rebels, Kenobi, Andor, Rogur One and Tales of the Jedi, you can watch this again, in the special edition. You may end up loving Anakin Skywalker.
Kenobi is bad. Rogue one is good. Bad batch and rebels are a pass if youre not super into it.
I doubt theyre even going to watch clone wars
It is widely held that the Original Trilogy timeline is: Events of Star Wars - Three years gap - Events of TESB - Six months to a year gap - Events of ROTJ
The OT vs the PT. They are both trilogies of movies for both kids and adults. But the OT treats kids like adults and PT treats adults like kids.
17:45 to a kid born in 71, Leia in that bikini was on many a teen-age wall in poster form!
"He will be mine."
EDIT To answer your question the Emperor and Luke, the Emperor was baiting Luke into turning towards the Dark Side.
I hope you get a ❤ from the reactor for the time and effort you put into this. Great info
I was not aware that you could get the OG pre Special Edition version any more as the last time I saw it, it was on Old VHS before Special Edition all the DVD and Blu Ray have been after Special Edition with all the Extra edits to tie in better with Episodes 1, 2 and 3
Wow, you watched the original!! The original ending Ewok song plus the original three ghosts with the real Anakin! Great reaction!!
Oh wow! You're watching the de-specialized version, too! Awesome!
The end music is different, why ?
@@juliusperseus8612 I was surprised to by this version watch. The "special" version, has a different Anakin Skywalker at the end... the one from Ep.'s 2 and 3.

YES! The REAL version!!
So much better than the edited ones.
not really
The 11 films, including Rogue One, and the Solo film cost 1.8 billion to make, and grossed at the box office 10.3 billion. They also have had many animation releases in both tv and films, as well as full action the TV series as well we see on Disney+.
Don't forget that George Lucas made a deal that he owned for all of his projects from 1977 on, all rights for all of the toys, dolls, etc... Worth Billions.
Fun fact Carrie Fisher was Debbie Reynolds daughter, her father was Eddie Fisher.
I stood in a very long line, with a very pretty girl to see the very first Star Wars film. It was a big theater and we were all amazed by what we saw.
Thank you so very much for watching the original version
It was great to watch the original ROTJ again without the digital changes. Such an inspirational and magical story of a son who redeems his father. Thank you!
Yep
My favorite Star Wars movie of all time.
I was wondering when you guys were going to finally finish this trilogy. I see you guys got the Despecialized Edition =)
The radio comment was gold
Vader died because the Emperor's force lightning shorted out the life support systems in his suit.
The Emperor designed it to be specifically weak to electricity as a way of ensuring Vader would always be weak against him.
Sith practice promotion by murder. But he never counted on Vader taking that L willingly to save his son.
Airplane 2 had an opening crawl. It was obviously inspired by Star Wars. The old Universal serials also had opening crawls. They were what had inspired George Lucas
45:11 It is so amusing to watch these ladies get so involved in this movie. 😆
My mother was their age when she took me and my brother to see this at the theater, and to her it was just another kid's action movie to sit through with us. "🙄"
I wish I could give you two thumbs up for watching the pre-special edition episodes 4,5,6 in theatrical release order first. It is a more powerful experience with a more unknown evil scary Vader. This is the real true Star Wars experience of fascinating wonder, imagination, mystery, which lets you ponder, reflect and think about all the multitude of unknown unanswered questions that eventually get revealed. Then you go ohhh ok I see I get it now.
The Dark Side of the force has a tendency for making those who use it look like they are undead and changes their eye colour to red and gold.
Unadulterated Jedi!! Love
By the way, the Elizabeth / Amanda team makes for good reacting.
I grew up with the originals, and while the prequels do have a different vibe, they are still very good. They should have a different vibe because it was a different era where there were a lot of Jedi and the Emperor hadn't been revealed yet. So different vibe, but still a great story.
Awesome choice with the original untinkered theatrical version.👍

This is not the edits George Lucas put in in the 3 pack sale. The ending especially is so much better in the edited version as can see how big scale the empire ending and the Gslaxy celebrating was and the actor that played his father was replaced. To each their own i enjoy the edited version much better.
44:45 This moment right here proves to me beyond any doubt that the Special Edition "NOOOOO" from Vader was entirely unnecessary and stupid. She already knew, she didn't need to be told.
Thank you for a theatrical edition reaction.
It is so much more powerful with the original scene
I laughed so hard when she said "I don't think I'd bring 3PO on this mission".
None of the people who recommend Machete order for a first time watch have actually watched in Machete order for their first time watch. Thank you for watching in release order as millions and millions of people around the globe have watched it.
in fact, the movie Spacebowls, which is mostly a parody of Star Wars, starts the same way - credits disappearing into the distance. then the big laugh starts! have you heard of Dark Helmet?
Vader's suit was specificaly design to make him suffer and more immersed in the Dark Side (as well as sustaining his life for reasons you will see in Ep3) and designed to be vulnerable to the Emperor's lightning power...
Darth didnt block Lukes saber attack on the emperor to save the emperor.....he did it to save Luke.
Um...I don't know about that. I don't think Darth had good thoughts until the very end. If so, why did he taunt Luke with knowledge of the twin sister
@@SJHFoto I personally believe it was his subconscious blocked Luke's saber. Nobody hated the emperor more than Vader.
Let me just say, +1Million for using original release version. FAR SUPERIOR.
the "pet" that is on Jabba's lap is a monkey lizard named .. Salatiuos Crumbe .. now you know
Salacious Crumb
People sometimes never realise that this trilogy was not the story of Luke and company. This was the story of the redemption of Anakin Skywalker.
That is why the first movie is so "slow" and the second is beloved the most.
wait, they got ahold of the original version?
I grew up on the 2004 dvd release of 1-6, which is the best version of this film in my opinion. It has all of the updates and improvements to the effects and the finale song that's way better, but doesn't have the stupid "NOOOOOO" added when Vader saves Luke. Unfortunately has the awful song in jabba's palace, but it's worth the other changes to me
That makes a lot of sense. I imagine people wouldn't complain about some sort of hybrid which includes the best of both versions.
Very little movie time has passed. Lando and Chewy were on their way to "the sand planet" to rescue Han at the end of the last movie.
They left to look for Han, they had no clue as of yet, as Lando stated 'when we find Han, we'll let you know'. I believe the official timeline placed it about a year later.
@@ashuradragosani5960 they knew the bounty hunter took him. They knew Jaba placed the bounty and they left to go to Tatooine. I don't know about any official timeline. But they had plenty of clues.

Good job watching the ORIGINAL version. Love the old Ewok song and the Jabba Palace without the 1997 CG junk added.
People give the Endor scenes a lot of hell. And as an adult I completely understand why. And yet, when I was a child, it was so thrilling to imagine being on a forest moon with speeders and teddy bears and bravery and compassion.
Boba Fett learned that the pilot’s name who destroyed the Death Star was Skywalker and he reported that to Vader. There’s comics about it. Vader was pissed and he’s playing dumb and tries to act a little surprised in Empire Strikes Back when The Emperor says that he has no doubt that Luke is Anakin’s son.
If you were at th eright age to see this in the theaters when you were between the ages of 10-12 Luke Skywalker doing the flip out of the Sarlac Pit was the single most exciting thing that had ever happened!
Btw, when you watch the "prequels" and are introduced to the young Anakin Skywalker..go back and watch the version of "Return" with the George Lucas changes in the "Special Editions" he re-released after the prequels....it'll all come together.
The Mandalorian TV show is set just after episode 6. So technically you could watch that next!
Watching the prequels before the OT is insane. Always watch in release order. The prequels were made with the idea that people have seen the OT.
Happy May the 4th!!
I hope you get the chance to react to the Prequel Trilogy!
I was in the theater for episode 4 in 1977, and I would've suggested that first! And it's no longer a love triangle in episode 6!
There is a deleted scene at the beginning of this film or Luke stops at Ben's old place and builds a new lightsaber.
RETURN OF THE JEDI IS MY FAVORITE. IT'S AMAZIG THAT YOU GUYS DID THIS
i like that you two watched the 1983 version , i like the house band in this version
Great reaction to the original trilogy, look forward to watching the prequels with you both🙂

Definitely my favorite out of the trilogy. Had a blast with your reaction :D
Y’all watched the original release! I wonder where you got that copy at. Usually it’s the special edition.

@adambrown3918 indeed ! - I was like wait... these are the 'Original' edition releases & not with the extra added digital tweaks.. Wow ! I don't even understand where you found these copies , lol - awesome & I far enjoy this version of Max Rebo's band in Jabba's Palace more than the re-done 'digitally enhanced Special editions...
Gratz on you ladies for doing the de-altered version of these movies. You couldn't get the original versions of 4-6 on DVD, just VHS. Everyone else does the ones where Lucas added CGI to them in the late 90's. This is how they should be watched.
Amen. Non revisionist versions of the OT for life. So tired of trying to inform others as to why these versions are so important. And clueless dumb know nothing kids saying the "special editions" are better knowing damn well they never saw the originals.
Best quotes:
“He looks so unhealthy”
And
“I feel like we need more time to process”
Thank you guys
And this was the last good StarWars movie made in 1983
I didn't think the original version was still available. I like the end song better than the new version.
Fun fact, Vader's suit was built specifically by the Emperor to be weak to his lightning. That way in case Vader ever did turn against him, it would be one more ace up the Emperor's sleeve.
