    At least it felt like AC again. Most I've enjoyed it since Unity if I'm gonna be honest.
    While i didn't care that it was easy because I've never played AC for a challenge but for fun, it could be fleshed out a little more, and parkour needs to come back definitively, because the movement in this game was improved by level design but still severely lacking in freedom and flow.

      Thanks for watching the video! I agree, the level design was one of the major things that helped the parkour system of the RPG trilogy work so well in Mirage. But I'm genuinely more in favor of parkour challenges and courses, rather than what we got in Mirage.

    I have always been so confident with Ubi Environmental Artists. It may not be as advanced and as interactive as lets say Avatar is, but it delivers itself as an important part of game that player engages with. Its immersive, its detailed, it tells you a story and its just awesome. I hope, Ubi invests more in their Ai....idk even something like Tlou 2 where it gives you the illusion that you are killing a bunch of people that seem like they are caring about each other, is immersive enough to begin with!

    I disagree. This game wasn’t supposed to be the next step forward in AC, it was a deliberate step into the past. I didn’t want crafting and different character builds, I wanted an old school, single-city, stealth focused AC game. It absolutely delivered in those regards. That’s what it was meant to be.

    • @TheTrueSeal
      @TheTrueSeal  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching the video. Glad that you could enjoy the game. A change in the general direction of any game series is always great (unless it deprives the franchise of its true identity). Sadly though, for me it wasn't as good as the older smaller games in the series.

    • @STSGuitar16
      @STSGuitar16 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@TheTrueSeal (just wanna preface this and say I’m not angry or trying to be mean with any of this, I’m just passionate lol. I appreciate the video!)
      But it’s not a change in the general direction of a series, it’s a return to form FROM the change that has taken place since 2017. The RPG games were the change, not Mirage, and those games (maybe aside from parts of Origins) absolutely did deprive the franchise of its true identity. Mirage is just getting back into the old school lane; the original identity of the game.
      I just finished a replay of AC2 and almost done with a replay of Brotherhood right now, so I have a fresh view of those games right now. So, is Mirage as in depth as something like Brotherhood? No. Does it have as many mechanics like training assassins or the dungeons/wolf lairs? No. Does that make Mirage a bad game? Not in the slightest. Mirage is truly a modern version of the first game: not much fluff, just a fun main story and cool location with great stealth (Mirage’s stealth in particular is a million times better than any of the older games, no contest).
      Would I have liked to see more features like dungeons and things? Sure, but that doesn’t negatively affect my view of the game as it is. It is somewhat bare bones, but it scratches that old school itch for sure. And for what it’s worth, I have no issue trashing AC games even though they’re my favorite franchise. For instance, Valhalla is one of the most boring games I’ve ever played that I stopped enjoying after about the fifth quest in a row of doing the exact same raiding mission thing that the whole game is centered around. It sucks, and I’m not shy about saying that.
      Mirage, on the other hand, was a much-needed breath of fresh air in this franchise that has strayed so far from its roots in just about every way, and for that, I am thankful. It is not perfect, but it is an incredibly fun game that accomplished what it set out to accomplish, i.e. an homage to the style of the very first game.
      Also, keep in mind the future towards which Mirage is helping to pave the way. With it being a highly successful game, it stands to reason that Ubisoft won’t just make this old school style homage game a one-off thing. It seems they will continue to release smaller games like this going forward. It makes sense that they didn’t pull out all the stops for this sort of “experimental” AC game, but now that the experiment has proven to be successful, who’s to say the next smaller AC game won’t be as good as AC2 or Brotherhood were compared to AC1? We are absolutely much closer to the recreation of more fleshed out experiences like Brotherhood because of Mirage than we were without it.
      All in all, it absolutely accomplished what it set out to accomplish. Just curious, are you a fan of the RPG games over something like Syndicate?

    • @TheTrueSeal
      @TheTrueSeal  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@STSGuitar16 I truly appreciate your comment and by no means I am offended or think you're wrong at all. After all we all have our own opinions based on different experiences. But I think I need to clear up something first, and that is what I meant earlier by "change in the general direction of a series" was not pointed toward Mirage, it was a general thing about every franchise (for example, how Final Fantasy has moved toward an action-oriented combat or Like a Dragon series moved to a Turn-Based combat system) That one sentence was supposed to be like this: "Change is good and I'm glad they decided to move on from the old formula to try something fresh. But now it is time to make something better that fans would simply love to try it". I admit that I have poorly explained this part in my original comment.
      About your question, I should answer it this way: I grew up with AC. Finished AC1 & 2 more than 7 times on 2 different platforms (PC-X360) and there's basically no game in the franchise that I have skipped (other than the recent VR game) or have finished less than at least 2 times. (Currently doing my second Mirage Playthrough). I love this franchise more than any other game. With that out of the way, I have favorites and least favorites in the series as well. My favorites are AC2-BH-1-Valhalla while my least favorites are Odyssey and Syndicate. I'm cool with RPG mechanics in any game only if they're implemented properly. I loved Valhalla for multiple reasons (The setting is my favorite, characters are awesome, fan of Magnus Bruun, a sucker for ISU lore stuff, huge fan of The Last Kingdom TV show and so on).
      But I don't think the franchise should stay in its RPG form forever. For one, I do think that the focus on one city (or more) with tons of parkour moments is crucial. The story should be focused on creating amazing moments with complex and memorable characters like the ones from AC1 and 2. There should be more innovation in the gameplay and a massive focus on Stealth with smarter enemies, more complex level design, introduction of game changing elements (such as the social stealth from the original game) and so on. Ubisoft might not be the inventor of the stealth genre in gaming, but they have a long history of making banger stealth games. So, I think it's time for them to drop the lame "you're level gated by XP" approach and return to what they were good at originally. Mirage was just the first step in the right direction, but there were problems with the game that I have stated in the video and will stand by whatever I said originally. What I was expecting from this game, was to be on par with Brotherhood, Revelations or even Liberation. I didn't find the game as compelling as the mentioned games in many regards, but I do find it as a valuable game and an important point in the series that might prove to Ubisoft what original fans of the series truly desire.

      @@TheTrueSeal Man we’re gonna disagree again lol Syndicate sits in my top three AC games and Valhalla definitely sits in the bottom three for me. Seems we have like opposite taste in AC games lol. We can talk Syndicate if you want, but I’ll stick to this topic for now.
      In Valhalla, I got to the point where I had allied with two territories, but literally every single mission of allying with those territories was nearly identical. You get a mission brief in your village, sail or walk/run to whatever location you need to go to, raid the location and kill all of the enemies, return to your village, rinse and repeat over and over again. No variety whatsoever by that point, and I honestly just got so bored and was seriously surprised at the lack of variety in missions. So tell me this: do the missions ever change to be more like an AC game? Any stealth based missions that aren’t just rolling up and killing everyone over and over and over again? The setting can be cool, but I got tired of English countryside pretty quickly too, as the lack of any really big cities with parkour elements to traverse areas of the map makes it subpar, imo. Some of the characters are cool, but the story is way too drawn out and bloated, imo.
      Also, there really aren’t very many RPG elements in Valhalla anyway aside from that ridiculously massive skill tree and the fact that you basically are XP-locked (which I thought you don’t like?) from a lot of places until you build up. So I’d argue they weren’t implemented properly in that game to begin with, honestly. I could actually argue that Syndicate actually implements RPG elements better than Valhalla in some ways (I could write and defend Syndicate for literal hours, but I’ll refrain lol), but that’s beside the point. I personally don’t feel the need for heavy RPG stuff to be in an AC game anyway. I don’t need to have crafting, grinding forever to level up and different character builds and all that. Origins is basically the limit for as much RPG elements that an AC game should have, but when you get into Odyssey and Valhalla, it just gets to be too much, imo. And the RPG games aren’t even good RPG games to begin with.
      Before Mirage came out, I personally wasn’t getting my hopes up or expecting it to be something as densely packed as Brotherhood, so my expectations were actually met when the modern AC1 (Mirage) came out. Like I said, I’d love for Mirage to be like Brotherhood as well, but the fact that it isn’t doesn’t take away from the game for me. I like it for what it is. I could see how you’d be disappointed in the game, especially when Valhalla is one of your top AC games, but I was satisfied. And like I said, it’s likely that Mirage is just the first installment in the new smaller games and that things will get closer to a Brotherhood-ish feel as they continue to make them.
      If you had it your way, what is your perfect AC game? Is it like Brotherhood or is it like Valhalla? What exactly would you like to see in an AC game? For me, it’s heavy in the old school stealth stuff and light on the RPG elements. I’ll also add that my true hope is that the success of Mirage has shown Ubisoft that the fans truly do love the old school and stealth-heavy elements in AC games, and that they will incorporate the best of both worlds (the old school stealth games and the RPG games) into Red, which is another potential positive about Mirage. I truly think Red has the potential to be one of the best AC games in the franchise if they can strike that balance well, and right now seems like the best, most likely, and prime time for potentially nailing that balance perfectly in Red thanks to Mirage. So Mirage is great in that sense as well.
      I mean, there are plenty of things that could’ve been better in Mirage, but like I said, it doesn’t take away for me. I don’t judge the game based on what it doesn’t have, I judge it by the stuff that it does have, and the stuff that it does have is pretty dang good, imo. It’s an important game for several reasons, so I just think the hate Mirage has gotten is totally unwarranted when you assess the game for what it is. With all the stuff we got in that game (Mirage), it is definitely a pretty dang great stealth AC game that is a lot of fun to play.
      I’ve subscribed, btw, and am looking forward to hearing more of your takes on the franchise!

      @TheTrueSeal  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@STSGuitar16 Thank you for the subscription, I truly appreciate it! Stay tuned as I will be talking about AC more in the upcoming months, especially when RED gets officially announced. Now on to the rest of your comment:
      My biggest gripe with Syndicate was the twins and their story. The protagonists had shallow writing in that game, although the DLC completely fixed it for me. other than that, I felt like the grappling hook reduced the focus from parkour (even though it was really cool) and the wider street gaps made the game feel totally different compared to previous games. (Well, later on we completely lost the best element of the series which was the parkour and got the lame universal parkour instead which removed all the fun and puzzle platforming sections) These were my only problems with Syndicate, other than that I felt like the atmosphere, city, overall story, combat, antagonist, the shroud, that amazing world war section and the presentation were top notch.
      Valhalla on the other hand, felt like some sort of adventure that I had been seeking for years. I could explore everywhere, with lots of underground areas and hidden tombs, dangerous woods, memorable side content, the awesome mini game of Orlog, vast and varied world, a deeper combat system compared to the predecessors and so on. Are any of these the hallmarks of the series? definitely not. would they fit in a new IP much better? I guess so. (and TBH Ubisoft did try their luck by creating Immortals, but the game ultimately failed because of the publisher's lack of advertisement and many other factors that I will not get into them right now). But the game just resonated with me on another level. Like it was my dream game (it's not the best AC ever for me).
      I totally understand the repetition thing. It didn't bother me in that game since I turned off HUD almost 90% of my both playthroughs. There was so much to do and I tried making my experience a mix of adventuring in the world, enjoying the scenery and completing missions. It felt like I was living in the world and by the time I reached Eivor's finale (It was added as a free DLC which was an odd move, almost as odd as the removal of sequence 12 from AC2 and then adding it later as a paid DLC lol). Although the major RPG part of Valhalla was that over complicated skill-tree that would allow you to role play as any type of character that you'd like (Warrior, assassin, hunter or mixed). I totally agree with you that this stuff shouldn't be in an AC game and a more linear approach to the story would be much better, but compared to Odyssey, the game was mechanically more fleshed out.
      I do agree, I had high expectations from Mirage, and it was partially my own mistake but the fact that I expected so much from the game was because of the good memories of older games. However, there's something about the stealth that I don't agree. Since it was a DLC for Valhalla originally, they completely used almost every technical aspect of Valhalla which is nothing new in the franchise (Brotherhood and Revelation did the same, 3-4 and Rogue did it as well Unity- Syndicate did it and Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla did the same too) and because of that, most stealth elements are the exact replica of Valhalla. They were already streamlined, or should I say, simplified versions of older mechanics that Ubisoft created in Valhalla, and now they're almost untouched in the same way in Mirage. I'm not saying that Mirage had nothing new (Smoke bombs or Darts for example are new stealth tools). I'm saying that I expected more complex return of these mechanics. For example: Quicker animations mixed with busier streets would make stealth kills using the social stealth mechanic much closer to AC4 or Unity. Let's not forget that the design of Mirage allowed a better use of those mechanics and that's why they felt much better compared to Valhalla. Because Mirage tried to cater to one play style, unlike Valhalla.
      About my favorite AC, I would want something with a deep story as close to Ezio's trilogy, Mechanics as close to 2 and Unity, with the best possible parkour (Cool animations like unity, loads of puzzle platforming sections like in AC1 and 2). No signs of ships (lol), extreme focus on stealth tools (un-exploitable, like they should make some sort of cooldown timer, so we won't be able to spam abilities), and most importantly, a new difficulty setting for those of us who'd love to live in the world of AC games. what would that be like? Let's call it the "Master Assassin" Difficulty. Something that would unlock once you finish the game in any other difficulty. You're limited with the number of items you can carry, enemies are actually smarter (no change to their health bars or the damage done), there's stamina so you should carefully plan your every move (especially in parkour sections which would make traversal extremely hard), new enemy types, new enemy patrols, additional story segments (that would not change the general story, but would add more to the experience instead), tons of interactable environments (open windows, shops, etc.), a massive push on social stealth. Remember the invisibility feature in Syndicate or the disguise tool in Unity? Instead of doing that, we should lower our equipment and simplify our look to be able to hide in the plain sight. And most importantly, escaping guards should be super hard, just like the way every AC character pretends that killing 3 guys is super hard in a cutscene but then the next moment in gameplay you get to slay an entire army within a few minutes lol. Of course, these are super hardcore stuff that I doubt anyone would enjoy, especially the stamina part, but a dream AC game would be something like that in terms of mechanics. I would also love to explore tons of tombs (of the prior assassins), explore ISU stuff, and a heavy focus on Templar vs Assassin war (even if it was told 10 billion times already).

    Honestly mirage is a great game. It is far better than having another rpg that ends up forcing you to have the worse character as the canon character, defeating the point of being an rpg in the first place, and spoiling the experience. Is mirage perfect? No. Is it a damn good game? Yes. Is valhalla perfect? Far from it. But, again, valhalla is a good game as long as you don't conform to playing as the badly acted and cringe version of evior. Her acting and ridiculous look utterly ruin the narrative experience.

    Ngl, I actually had completely forgotten that Mirage existed and was due to release. Up until today, if anyone had asked I would have said that Valhalla was the most recent AC game (I guess in a way, thats still technically true lol).
    However, afterwatching your video which primarily focused on deconstructing the game with the goal of criticizing aspect of it you did not like or feel are steps backwards or at the least a mistake or misstep...Ive found that I am of an opposite feeling on many of these points and am in fact now more interested in wanting to play the game.
    But alas, Ubisoft still continue their on-again-off-again relationship with hating Steam/Valve, so I was sad that it isnt on the steam store. I already have Epic (for only 1 game, PC Building Simulator 2) so thats not the biggest deal in the world I guess...but the fact that its going for full price when Steam is currently having a Ubisoft sale with +80% off and I could get 15 years of AC and all of its bonus content for ~$90, really makes it hard to bite the bullet and pay $50 for the base game or up to $90 for the Master Assassin Edition.

      Thanks for watching the video! I'm glad that the video is helpful, and you should totally not sleep on the game since it provides a fun experience. You could wait a few more months until they officially bring Mirage to Steam. Ubisoft usually gives their games a good chunk of discount when they're finally available on steam. On the Master Assassin Edition however, as you have said the value it provides is just stellar and if you want to play every game in the series occasionally from time to time, it's a better choice. However, I still recommend you play Mirage.

It's always refreshing to see what others think about your favorite games. Also, curious to know what's your favorite Assassin's Creed game? which one do you really like and which one do you dislike the most?
      I believe I should make a video and talk about other games in the series and my opinion on the RPG vs Classic entries as well since you and another viewer's comments have inspired me to create such content in the future. So definitely stay tuned on that. It's always great to end up on the fandom's side of things and learn more of their opinion on every game in the series.

    The problem is the peoples nostalgia. I just finished the Ezio tribology and frankly I don't get it. He's no better of a character than most of the other characters in the franchise.
