    I enjoyed this video and I appreciated the brevity. Covering defensive settings in strategy such as the shift might be helpful.

      Thanks for watching! And good suggestion, thank you.

    I've never played fictional but based on things I've read what you're saying makes sense. The game has different features depending on whether the setup is fictional or historical and what type of historical setup is selected. For example, on single year, 3 years, or 5 years recalc a player will lose his ability to play a category (C, IF, OF) after he stopped playing it real life. So in a historical game, you're in for a surprise with your player currently having both IF and OF skills. Training can be done in a historical game but its effects are modified by what a player did real life.
    I noticed a post you made on the OOTP board that you'd never played historical. I suggest you note on your videos that the suggestions may not apply to historical games.

      Yeah, that's a fair point. I suppose the reason I don't go into that nuance is because my original tutorials started with a standard game and I've tried to build off that. But your disclaimer would be helpful since plenty of people come across videos without seeing earlier ones.
      I misspoke whenever I said I'd never done historical. It's been several versions since I've played a historical sim though, and IIRC, I turned recalc off.

      @@OOTPaddy Yea, recalc off is yet another story. I can say with dev only in historical late bloomers are unlikely to bloom at all. Like your comments in this video about the guy who is 26 years old.
      Thanks for the response. I enjoy your videos although I'm a long way away from trying a fictional game.

    When force starting a player at a position, do you adjust the “Bench when fatigue %” option, and if so, what’s a good percentage there? Thanks as always for these great tutorials!

      I don't, but that's a good idea. Probably when their energy bar gets into the yellow so maybe like 60-=ish%...?

    Is there a way to set organizational development priorities? Like, for example, emphasizing contact over power or increasing the emphasis on defense?

    • @OOTPaddy
      @OOTPaddy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can hire coaches who have specific areas they are strong in. I’m not convinced it makes a huge difference, so I just try to hire the best coaches, regardless of if they are best for contact, power etc.

    can you do a video on how to develop prospects

    • @OOTPaddy
      @OOTPaddy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Matt, I've got a few videos that cover a lot of player development and the minor leagues:
      Player development and minor leagues part 1: th-cam.com/video/3mRmBLW1b1Q/w-d-xo.html
      Part 2: th-cam.com/video/q56rnykflog/w-d-xo.html
      And then an updated version for ootp 22 on when to promote prospects: th-cam.com/video/NtP-CjPscGs/w-d-xo.html
      Let me know if you have questions or if there are things I didn't cover in there.

    One question please, what defensive ratings do you recommend for a starting shortstop ? And the other fielders ?

    • @OOTPaddy
      @OOTPaddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      most important are 70+ range for SS and CF, and 70+ catcher ability for C

  • @dll1b14

    this doesn't really apply to defense but i'm curious how you evaluate pitchers when their ground out percentage isn't consistent with what your scout says. For example: the scout says the movement rating is a 40 and he's an extreme flyball pitcher but the ground out percentage is 55% and you see he's getting more ground outs than fly balls in the majority of his starts. Do you ignore the scout and go by what you've seen in games/stats? i hope that makes sense. it's hard to articulate this without showing an OOTP screen.

    • @OOTPaddy
      @OOTPaddy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never pay too much attention to GO%. I just have trouble finding it reliable since it’s only ground outs, not ground balls, and we don’t also have info on line drive and fly ball %. I’m sure there’s a way to use it practically combined with BABIP but I’ve never used it too much.

    Does playing a player out of position impact his offensive development? The reason I ask, is usually his overall rating drops.

    • @OOTPaddy
      @OOTPaddy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The overall rating doesn’t drop, as far as I know. It drops because the ratings are relative to their position. I don’t think playing out of position itself will hurt development. Although I suppose if the player struggles and isn’t adaptable, maybe it could impact them. But I don’t worry about that.

    Does the new ootp give you the option of using old roster rules(25, 40 in September, 1 out relievers)?

    • @OOTPaddy
      @OOTPaddy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, you can adjust all that. I think you can in OOTP 21 too.

    Great video! Thanks for doing these! Is there a way to get a righty pitcher better vs lefties? Is it just a matter of getting him to face more lefties? Is there a way to tell the minor league managers to make him face more lefties? I am talking about in OOTP 22.

    • @OOTPaddy
      @OOTPaddy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching, Eric. I don’t believe there’s a way to train or develop in terms of pitching or batting splits (facing L or R).

      @@OOTPaddy Thanks buddy! There should be! That would be extremely helpful. I am sure in real life if someone notices they suck against a certain kind of hitter, they'd come up with ways of getting that hitter out! lol.

    Do the individual defensive abilities grow at all? I can't say I've ever seen much noticeable changes.

    • @stekhouse

      i'm having a hard time with this too, i'm trying a Detroit franchise campaign with 140 as talent change randomness and gosh it's hard to build up a decent team especially with the trade settings moved towards the harder side

    • @OOTPaddy
      @OOTPaddy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In previous versions of OOTP things like arm, range etc were generally static. I have seen some people mention that in OOTP 22 they've seen these things improve at the MLB level. They've credited this to the new roles you can assign to coaches like teaching IF.

    • @jibathus
      @jibathus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OOTPaddy Yeah I have seen movements in increments of 5 up or down, but nothing dramatic. The defensive abilities in general just seem unrealistic to me, I've had guys drafted who have 70+ in all infield abilities, but they'll never hit a ball out of the infield...... Billy Beane's basically.
