The second generation version of Toyota's Aygo citycar launched in 2014 proved to be a little more efficient, a little more hi-tech and a little more fun to drive than its predecessor. Plus it offered a whole host of personalisation options. This was - and is - in the brand's own words, 'a car you could be proud of'. It certainly has a lot more of its own identity in MK2 guise. Let's check it out as a used buy.
    History
So, what makes a car feel 'fun'? Sprightly handling? Cheeky looks? Clever marketing? And can an urban runabout really qualify for purchase on those grounds? With this model, the second generation Toyota Aygo, we were told that it could.
You might think you know this car but if you haven't tried this MK2 version, launched here in the Summer of 2014, then you probably don't. Yes, it shares many of its mechanicals with the original design. No, it's not the same. Let's start with the fundamental thing that wasn't changed here. As before, this design was produced as part of a joint Toyota/PSA Group venture that also brought us French alternatives sharing most of this car's important bits - namely Peugeot's 108 and Citroen's C1.

Thank you Jonathan for another excellent car review presentation in the
Delightful English countryside, with a clear comprehensive commentary and backed up by very professional camera sound and lighting.
As far as I'm aware, unfortunately, we don't get Aygos here in NZ, but do get interesting and imaginative small cars, used ex Japanese, ( sienna, Porte, Spade, Spike, etc).
Kei class mini trucks are becoming more numerous on our roads recently, also ex Japan.
PS. Nice to see 'that corner' once more, the one with the pine trees, always makes me smile, lovely!
Kind regards to you and your team, from Geoff and Linda,( two squares in a Nissan cube.)

I was hoping John would mention about the clutch and high biting point. I have had a lot of problems with stalling and rolling car back as i cant seem to control the clutch.

It needs calibrating every 6-12 months to bring it down again, plenty of tutorials on TH-cam. You basically need to remove the battery then manually turn a knobby thing underneath by around 3 anticlockwise turns. My uncle did it for me and it took like 5-10 minutes so now my clutch is nice and low. If you next take it to the garage for an MOT or service they can do it for you really quickly and cheaply. Search on TH-cam Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1, Peugeot 108 clutch calibration. Let me know how it goes!

Had one of these from new in the top spec with the auto box. It is a good city car and I did a few long journeys with no problem as long as you don't want to much comfort. The 69bhp engine was the only gripe was it was gutless up hills and definitely needs more power .

The Up is at least 100% more expensive with all it faults that needs to be rectified, the Up has shuddering brakes, bad clutch, bad gearbox, bad release bearing, prone to water in the boot, bad antenna, no infotainment. What the Up has is better body work and stronger engine even with the 60HP. I know I have had both cars and the Aygo is simply the cheapest and most reliable car ever, never spend a single penny on the Aygo in 5 years. The Aygo is more noisey, doesnt handle wind as well and struggles more on the highway.

@@Christopher_C same as any other car. it's brilliant. only downside of the aygo is it's very underpowered.

@@isaachunt5799 okay thanks for the response. I personaly don’t need a fast car. As long the car can handle the highway, i’m happy with it.

@@Christopher_Cit handles highway speeds (up to 70 mph) but struggles on inclines due to lack of power - have to shift to 4th gear and maintain 60 mph going up :)

Great video. And I know why Toyota definitely doesn't want the 1.2 litre engine. The 1.0 litre engine is sourced from Toyota's subsidiary, Daihatsu. While the 1.2 litre engine is a PSA design. Enough said!
