      @@rockerrock328The Sharks are not good at defense at all. Hopefully Karlsson’s defensive skills will improve on the Pens. The Sharks lack of defensive talent is why the goalies are getting worn out and allowing so many goals. It’s not about just one player, it’s the entire team that lacks in defense. It’s just non-existent for the SJS.

    As somebody who was watched the sharks his entire life it was losing Pavelski that sank the ship. Dude was the heart and soul of the sharks.Couture is a great player but I’ve never gotten the sense he’s the same kind of leader. I will always wonder what would have happened if we let Karlsson walk and kept Nyquist and Pavelski

    • @DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants

      Pavs staying would not have mattered. Doug Wilson did that awful Karl trade when Pavs was still on the team. The team was going downward anyway with Wilson in charge.

    • @monkeychife
      @monkeychife 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants I disagree on pavs staying wouldn’t have mattered. The sharks always looked light on scoring forwards since Pavelski left and Karlsson’s contract made fixing that nearly impossible. Not once have I ever thought “ya know the sharks could really use another offensive defenseman”. I think to say Pavelski wouldn’t have mattered greatly underrates how valuable he was to the sharks in terms of both leadership and scoring. In my mind that is the exact mistake DW made. I agree the decline of the sharks was inevitable but it’s too much a of a coincidence to think the same year Pavelski leaves the sharks fall off a cliff and his new team shocks everyone by going to the finals. I’m not saying the sharks would have won a Stanley cup but they certainly would have made the playoffs again and we all know anything can happen if you make the playoffs.

      @@monkeychife When a GM starts trading 1st rounders for rental players the team either wins the cup or they start to decline.
      Giving out 8 year contracts is generally very foolish and Doug Wilson did that too and Hertl got one from him when the team was already awful.
      The team would be better with Pavs but they were not going to win a cup anyway so you should rebuild. Most teams waste their cap room on purpose when they have no shot at a cup win when they could trade that cap room for prospects instead.

    • @monkeychife
      @monkeychife 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants I would argue the sharks would have gotten better value trading Pavelski than trading karlsson in addition to better production on the team. In addition to that the sharks would already be free of his cap if we gave him the rumored contract. The lower value and better production is far easier to trade and should by all logic equal better return.
      Even if the sharks only got one extra playoff run out of pavs staying it wouldn’t matter because the sharks didn’t have their 2020 pick anyway. You can’t really say take neither either because the sharks were expected to be a good team in 2019-20.
      To be fair there are still assets to play and it’s to early to call what Karlssons return fully is. However, unless the penguins pick works out amazing it’s looking like more of a cap dump. I would love to be wrong but time will tell.

    • @DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants
      @DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@monkeychife When you are rebuilding you do not want to be giving out contracts like that with the hopes to flip them. Most players who make over 6 mill have no trade clauses that only hurt the team that signed them in trying to trade them for more later.
      Had Karl just loved it in SJ he could have refused every trade which would have been even worse for the sharks as a team. Giving any player 8 years is usually foolish but there is exceptions.
      Karl was 29 or something and Pavs was 35 at the time and the sharks were going to decline no matter what. Had Karl left Doug Wilson would have been made fun of for trading 2 firsts and a 2nd for a rental player.
      Most players around 35 decline too. Pavs first stars contract he could only be traded to 3 teams. That is not the kind of contract you expect to trade him to profit. That is the type of contract you plan to win the cup with him there.
      "You can’t really say take neither either because the sharks were expected to be a good team in 2019-20. "
      Winning the cup is the goal not being a good team who can't even reach the cup again.
      With the new Hertl contract the delusion that the sharks could even be a winning team was way over. A smart GM would have tried to trade Hertl to one of the 3 teams he could be traded to or convince him to waive his no trade clause.
      Before Hertl was even making 6 mill a year he still had so much leverage in the deal that he put he could only be traded to 3 teams. It is not as bad a GM agreeing to that when they are trying to win the cup with them.
      As of his new contract the 8 mill is just wasted. The Sharks could have done a cap dump trade where they trade that 8 mill for two 3rd round picks or two or 1 2nd rounder or even 1 first. and they could get prospects like that all 8 years.
      Hertl is still a point every other game type player but I would rather get two 3rd rounders from another team at minimum each season instead of Hertl who will not help the sharks win anything.

    Every Sharks fans were devastated when we let Big Joe leave, Pavs had became a favorite. We also didn't want BOTH EK and Burns on the same team... We knew those contracts smelled spoiled back then but we were grabbing onto the hope to win it all for once. Getting a cup between 2016-2020 would have excused sacrificing the following 5+ years to mediocrity. Getting the cup to Jumbo, Patty, Pickles, Big Joe, Cooch and so on that they worked so hard for about a decade in the making...
    But here we are, cupless... soulless... years later after risky decisions that didn't pay off in the end. The only thing we can look back on is how entertaining the Sharks have been able to be for a good decade and a half of playoffs battles. Great hockey was played by great players, including hall of famers.

    In the next 3 years, the Coyotes have 34 picks, & the Blackhawks have 28 (many of which are 1st through 3rd rounders). The potential of 3 1st rounders in 2024 for the Sharks is nice but after that, they only have 23 picks, 2 more than if they just had their stock 21. To date, their front office has not been creative to take on bad contracts for picks. They only have two remaining decent players to remove in Hertl & Couture but who is going to take on those long-term $8m+ contracts especially, when the Sharks can only retain on one more? With a middle of the pack current pipeline, this team is going to be bad for a very, very, long time.

    I've watched hockey for many years and I've never seen (or even heard of) a team as bad as this season's Sharks team. Not even the 75 Capitals were this bad. That team still won 8 games out of 80. Even the expansion Sharks team was better than this version. I'm amazed the Sharks managed to take the Avs to OT in their 1st game.
    As a Nucks fan, I watched the entire 10-1 Nucks-Sharks blowout. Had the Nucks not took pity on the Sharks in the 3rd period and didn't even bother to challenge the lone Sharks goal (there could've been goalie interference on that goal), the real score would be something like 12 or 13 to nothing. It's like watching the Nucks play an ECHL team. I swear the AHL Sharks farm team would be more motivated to play the Nucks (or Penguins last night) than the NHL Sharks team.
    It's ok to lose, but when you don't bother to even show up. When you don't even noticed your own goalie getting hurt and the other team is more concerned about your own goalie than your own team, there's some serious problems here. They really need to a coach firing or GM firing or something or else this will get out of hand. The Sharks have no compete in them right now. They need to try something desperate.

    Good video and yeah Doug Wilson turned the team into a dumpster fire. He even gave / approved that awful Hertl contract when the team was already terrible.
    The vlasic contract being 8 years. Releasing Martin Jones for playing bad and having 6 years of buyout money being wasted on him not with the team.
    That the sharks owner refused to fire him. Trading Josh Norris and what turned into #3 overall for a Rent A Player to get Karl. I remember when that trade happened I thought no single player in the NHL could have made that sharks team a cup winner. Instead of karl it could have been crosby or mcdavid and I doubt it would have made any difference.

      To me, the craziest part of the karlsson trade to SJ was that no one expcected the sharks to be the loser in that scenario
      Your biggest problem was not investing in a reliable goaltender
      The last quality one that the sharks had was nabokov and then after that it kinda became a revolving door
      Martin Jones, unfortunately, couldn’t make up for when the defense started to crumble and he got exposed really badly

There's also Zetterlund who's been a bright spot this season and their 2nd rounder that very well may be a first if NJ makes the ECF. People say the Sharks lost that trade a lot and I couldn't disagree more. They may very well end up with 4 medium-high impact players from that.
