i use two engine stands for rotating body shells and chassis, i cut the uprights off of the base as they are at an angle and welded a smaller size square tube in its place so the original one i cut off acted like an outside axle stand so i could raise and lower the whole shell at both ends just need to make a couple of A brackets to the bolt holes on the chassis / shell

In a previous century, I was fortunate to work in an industrial area of Costa Mesa, Ca. Across the street was a little shop where one guy did paint and body work on big deal restorations of Packards and Duzenburgs. I learned a lot by incessantly bugging and watching him create perfection. Interestingly, he did all his painting outside between 10:00 and 2:00. He would wait for the right beautiful calm day, hose off the driveway and spray the carefully masked classics. He told me that the sunlight gave him the best vision of the paint as it was being applied. I was really impressed at how he made razor straight cut lines between two different colors. He literally perfected the termination of the first color with very fine cutting tools. Then he masked off the first color to that exact line before applying the second color. In this way the two layers of paint were in exactly the same plane with no overlap. After polishing the result was stunning. There were no pin stripes necessary to hide the transitions from one color to the next. Perfection!
That Chassis is looking sweet, can't wait to see all the parts added then the body popped on, super work as always Chad, and great camera work from Jolene

Chassis is looking nice painted black. I hope Chad remembers to paint underneath the rear cross member where the jack stands were. Jolene keeps doing a fantastic job on the video.

Hey Chad, no need to turn the spray paint can upside down to clear the nozzle as it is never guaranteed to clear the nozzle for long periods. However there is a guaranteed way to assure your used spray can will work next time, even if you store it for a couple years or even longer. When you are finished spraying, use a can of brake cleaner with the little tube attached, remove the spray nozzle from the paint can and spray brake cleaner up through the nozzle from the bottom and a couple shots across the surface of the spray outlet. The high pressure and volume from the brake cleaner can will clean all residual paint from the nozzle and guarantee it will perform like a new can even after long storage periods. Also, with the nozzle removed I usually spray a shot down into the can before replacing the nozzle.
Yes…typically with powdercoat. Can buy little silicone plugs for this use for powdercoating as they can handle the 200degC oven temps. Ear plugs are a Great idea for this purpose👍

That 3rd coat really wetted it out!!! Go for it man, as John Komoski used to say, ' be a robot, watch the paint flow out - wet it out😁😁😁Jolene does an amazing job. Chad you are both blessed. Stay safe. Amen.
I find that some of those paint cups can be confusing. So I started using the ounce mark on the cup ie. 4 oz plus 1 oz plus 2 oz. This trick makes it easier for me when mixing paint.

Jolene's chassis is looking wonderful in black, she be sweet for sure. And on Elvis, the Coral trim is perfect contrast with the black. I can't wait until she's all done and put together. Both cars will be exceptional.

watching someone paint looks easy like anyone could do it. painting is all ive ever done from bridges to cars and still learn daily painting is like good bourbon you get better with age.

Chad, weld or mount a blunt conical pin on the jack stand and use the holes available in chassis to support it for painting.
