    You are a breathe of fresh air. You explain so well, and your voice is so calm and relaxing. Thoroughly enjoyed watching you make this beautiful blouse. I’m a beginner and since moving two years ago all I’m doing is decorating and renovating from top to bottom. I cannot wait until I have my very own sewing area so I can start making my own clothes. In the meantime I’ll have to carry on watching your wonderful channel to help me get the buzz I crave. Thank you so much for spending time showing us, it was wonderful. 💖💖💖

    Hello I am new love your video. Naive here how did you get the gather to happen with the sewing machine? I know how to create a gather by sewing and then pulling the strings.

    • @EnchantedRoseCostumes

      Do you mean when I added the waist tape? I gathered it by pulling the thread and then pinned the twill tape over the gathers 😊

    Hello! I am NOT a seamstress, I have NO skillz. However, I have longed to make an Edwardian "lingerie" blouse for years. The first big hurdle I have though, isn't my lack of skill or finding a pattern, it's finding the fabric. How do I get my hands on a soft, nearly sheer, white fabric that has a nice drape? And what is that fabric called? I've bought muslin, and it's stiff, awkward, and cream. I can't find lawn or cambric at any of my shops. Help!

    • @EnchantedRoseCostumes
      @EnchantedRoseCostumes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello. This fabric I used is cotton voile. I orginally purchased mine from Overseas Fabrics in Canada. If you google cotton voile you should be able to find stores that carry it. The following fabrics were recommended by folkwear for this pattern - "Lightweight fabrics such as gauze, batiste, voile, georgette, or other light cottons; silk, rayon, or blends."

    • @EnchantedRoseCostumes
      @EnchantedRoseCostumes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also modern muslin is quite different from the muslin mentioned in historical patterns and books 😔 I have yet to find a source for something similar.

    • @merindymorgenson3184
      @merindymorgenson3184 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cotton batiste can be found on Etsy. There are a couple people (at least) who sell it and advertise it for vestments, first communion, and baptism gowns. I bought some, possibly for this blouse, and I think it would be a good fit.

  • @ivygilliam5168

    It turned out so lovely! I really like the idea of adding a transparent layer behing your inset lace fabric, it still keeps the delicate see through look without feeling quite so exposed.

I just bought a pattern from that company but haven't read through it yet and I was wondering what you thought of their directions in terms of clarity. Thank you for sharing this with us. I've been eyeing this pattern for a while. Folkwear didn't used to have a particularly extensive size range but is working to extend their sizes. As I am not sylphlike like the model shown on their website I had concerns as to how the blouse looked on a figure with a larger bust line. I was so pleased when this video came up and with your finished product. You look lovely and I am confident in trying this pattern now!

    I have this blouse as a work in progress. I used white 100% cotton imperial batiste, which isn’t as see-through as voile, but is nice and light for the humid sub-tropical area I live in. Instead of drawnwork or pintucks, I used my embroidery machine to decorate the vestee and collar. I’m just at the point of attaching the vestee, and haven’t done the sleeves yet (as I know I will have to do some seam ripping - I can’t set a sleeve right the first time after 40 years of sewing). Mine will be the short sleeved version, and I did cut the body longer, as it looked short to me when I was cutting it out. Also, I plan on making the Folkwear # 209 walking skirt out of lightweight navy wool serge to go with it.

  • @tracymaybrown2261
    @tracymaybrown2261 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your version of the blouse is amazing and I’m so impressed that you got it done in less than 12 hours.
    I’m the idiot who decided to make it in a Liberty print fabric and due to pattern matching it took me about as long as that just to cut it out. When I got it finished the detail of the blouse can’t be seen because of the pattern matching 🙄.
    I love it in white though, it looks so classy and the pintucks and lace insertions are the icing on the cake. I, too, found the sleeves long, and I have relatively skinny wrists. I found that making the cuffs slightly longer but narrower in order to avoid the cuff falling over my wrist resulted in a gorgeous sleeve shape. The pattern does come up short in the body; you’ve reminded me that if I make another I’ll need to account for that. Also I don’t have much of a waist so I left the gathers and waist tape off and straightened the bottom hem.
    Your blouse is magnificent and beautifully finished. Thank you for sharing the process. I hope your husband made you a lovely, well-deserved dinner at the end of it all.

    What a lovely blouse! And its great that you could finish it on one day!
    You used some interesting scissors to cut down the excess fabric on the insertion lace part. May I ask how these are named? I've never seen scissors like these but they look quite handy!

      They are called duck bill or applique scissors 😁 I believe I put a link to them in the description
