Labor and delivery nurse here. The shivering is from the surge of oxytocin your body releases during delivery. We call them ‘labor shakes’. But I’m curious, after your placenta came out, did the nurses massage the top of your uterus from your belly? That’s the #1 way to prevent excessive bleeding like the one you experienced. That freezing is normal. It happened to me immediately after my second son CS. Then the nurses covered me up and give me a small tablet to take before I got myself. I was told it was a reaction from a medication that was given to me.

Postpartum chills are common shortly after you have given birth due to hormonal changes and if you received epidural during labour. It is a horrible feeling as if you are stuck outside on a freezing winter without a coat causing your teeth to chatter and your body to shake like you about to pass out, I understand how you felt.
