Hidden Valley - China

Hailed by many as the world's next global superpower, China seems to be leaving its rural communities behind.
Bu Shi village is one such place. For generations the only way to cross the river was by a bamboo rope. Now there is a wire cable. DVDs and televisions -- signs of the new consumerist China - arrive in the weekly market. But few of the locals even have electricity to use them. Some flee to the city, unable to resist the lure of urban living. Others fight to preserve their age-old traditions. "If a Lisu woman can't weave mattresses and cloth, she will not be respected by others," says Anni. Her mother may have abandoned her for the city, but she is determined to raise her daughter in the Lisu ways. She has the kind of spirit upon which the survival of China's rural communities relies.

It doesn't seem quite true that the Lisu "struggle to keep up with a world that is leaving them behind." It appears as if they are damn happy living a real life that lacks petty distractions and has no need for all the trappings of a profit-driven, technologically modern society. If they did "catch up" then the river would be horribly polluted and the landscape would be butchered to generate a Yuan or two of profit. They are better off living a good, natural life, and I would do the same too.

*...I would say these people are the richest in China, no smog, no polution, raising animals and crops, no outside interfetence, clean water and no motor traffic....For most Chinese, and most humans, this would be considered paradise!*

I wonder... Is it really that bad a way to live? They appreciate everything and each other. Simple respectful and real. The Chinese are a beautiful people. You see the happiness on the faces of the children. I believe we are capable of only so much and now a days are not our happiest here in the days of selfishness, greed and all those things technology has and continues to create. I say that my ancestors were still cavemen.
That is a place I would be proud and fulfilled to assist but I would never want to destroy what they have. I like to believe they know what they have and appreciate and embrace each and every day. I know the videos older and it's now 2018 but I hope China has kept their meddlesome ways from these people. I could only hope that at the time of my death I'm lucky enough to be in a place of such peace.

@@mliittsc63 I wonder IF it's that bad of a place to die??? While you lived you would really live and well, the death part may not come as soon as living in our 'ADVANCED' society..... Just a thought !

thanks there for posting this video. Great job. You know, there are about 600000 lisus in China, 350000 in Myanmar, and 30000 in Thailand. And the Lisus in China seemed to be most forgotten folks.
Thank God for a man like J.O.Fraser, the first American Missionary to the Lisu ethnic and his contributions. Pray that the North American Baptists will make notice of the Lisus and then support them.

I recently read a book on James O Fraser. Even though they were poor he required them to fund their own missionaries and church buildings without foreign support. Maybe a good thing he did as soon every foreigner was to be expelled from the country. When the borders reopened decades later the church remained strong.

Why not filter salt out of the ocean like so many are doing for crops, and set up green houses with refractory mirrors to facilitate different ideal climate and growing seasons for all kinds of fruits/vegetables and foods, and not only China but Africa and everywhere else ?
