People say that this is still paltry compared to the real thing. Well every single modern building is nothing compared to this. Some people in the west are narcissistic and delusional and think that just because their older buildings built at least a century ago are more ornate than these buildings it somehow compensates for the fact that they can’t produce anything similar in the present for a decent price. We build. Glass and steel. Boxes.

Part of it has to do with Mao's direction he wanted China to go culturally, and he wanted the culture to be redefined from the original traditional Chinese culture by any means. It's why realistic art was at it's height when he was in charge, part of it had to do with trying to have closer ties to the Soviet Union; but mostly the art was used as propaganda to reassure the CCP was supreme. With that, design elements were shaped to Mao's expectations, but I think it does make the government look like they have insecurities with their traditional culture when it should have been embraced.
The other part is that China for the past 20 years have been making a business in the country to demolish towns, that were once thousands of years old, for super cities with skyscrapers to impress the citizens and possible foreigners looking to invest. Over time though, the skyscrapers were either kept in control of the government forcing people to relocate when convenient, sometimes the towers sat empty with no one occupying the wasted space, or the buildings were built with little care of the durability of the structures. The sad part is that is was a custom for any member of a village who moved or relocated to a different region make an effort to visit their old homes, but the demolishing towns and villages is putting an end to that tradition.
As a Westerner, it bugs me that everyone is trying to follow the same cookie cutter architecture, I even hate the architecture in my home town. In my opinion, if I am going to travel to a foreign country, I want to have a chance to be immersed with the culture as much as possible. With the basic cheap architecture, it sort of ruins the effect that I traveled thousands of miles to a different place. It's why I am happy to see architecture built previously before WWII as it's the closest to relating to a countries' origins or understanding the history of the place. Not saying everyone worldwide can't advance or be inspired by different cultures, just it's appreciated when a country preserves their architecture.

It’s not just about inferiority complexes... the Chinese government wants to encourage as many of it’s people to stay within it’s borders, so building replicas of western landmarks, in their warped minds, will discourage western travel and therefore prevent more people from either wanting to leave China permanently or returning to China with open eyes from seeing the freedoms most westerners have.

Bruh.... the Germans and French did the same thing in both the 1800s except in addition they also literally went to other countries stole their architecture and brought it back and reassembled it. Also European nobility would pay to have miniatures of famous monuments and ruins from far away countries built into their gardens.
Also DC city plan is copy of Paris. Not to mention countless other American governmental buildings and monuments. There is a copy of pyramid of gyza in Memphis and a carbon copy of the Parthenon in Nashville.
I could give 100s more examples from the ancient world as well. People have been copying stuff forever.
Like the romans would straight up copy 1 for 1 Greek temples and statues.

Atrophied muscles in the face, neck, tongue and throat can affect the amount of air you naturally breath in, which can cause speaking and breathing difficulties, which require you to position your head and mouth specifically so you still sound like yourself. Happens to everyone as they age. Happens faster to people who habitually chew, smile and exhale using only one side of their mouth. They're all connected to something else, and when one thing slacks, so does its neighbour.

There have been lots of videos showing some Chinese tourists behaving badly in public. One video shows how a Chinese Man ruined an old relic by vandalising it with his name.
