I remember , in my class, in school, there were two quite poor girls, I still remember their name after 55 years, sugbati and bhagyeshwari. one day me and my friend finished lunch quickly because we wanted to go to library. We saw these two girls sitting in the classroom, I asked how come they are not eating with every one else. they both were quiet. upon asking again and again they told me they don't bring lunch because they can not afford. I went home and I was telling my mother about it. next day my mom put two extra roti, and extra subji and told me to share with them. that became my daily routine. Back then , it was not such a big deal for me, but now, thinking back, I thank my mom for it. R.I.P mom

Bojack Horseman Everyone has a right to rejoice in their own religion, just because they have different religions doesn't mean the other should stop praise, there's nothing wrong with someone giving thanks to their GOD and giving blessings. If someone doesn't like it they should just ignore it instead of being ignorant. No one should be told to stop, just the same as someone also should not be put down for not being a believer. We should all try to more kind and considerate.

Most important is how much money is in your pocket or others' pocket. Why does Indian govt has so much money for aircraft carrier, combat planes, and weapons? But has no money to feed starving people , fix sanitation, give people good housing. Indian govt don't care for its people. Poverty means people receiving free food.

I often eat at the Hare Krishna restaurant in London near Soho Square. They mostly grow their own vegetables in a farm near Watford & it’s 100% organic meal. The temple in Waterford used to be a farm house of George Harrison who wished to make a temple. They distribute free food in multiple locations in London especially for homeless people and those who are struggling financially. Also near UCL university you’d find them distributing free food to students and literally anyone.
That’s what call Humanity is all about. When asked they’ve replied that they believe in the faith that by serving people they please God.

Secondly, GDP or PPP is not an indication of prosperity, you imbecile. India IS STILL a 3rd world country. Prosperity has nothing to do with those aforementioned metrics, it's about economic output. When you have a population of 1.2 billion Indians, obviously you're going to output more than 80 million French, but those French live more prosperous lives because they've had a developed economy for a long time, and you're still catching up. And even if you do overtake USA, that's still not an accomplishment, because you're a nation of 1.2 billion people competing with 320 million, which means your economy is massively inefficient. The most efficient economies in the world are Germany and the Netherlands.

@KAUSHIK KUMAR Its not the distribution. The government distributes food well to ration shops. The problem is that these ration shops are extremely corrupt. The food that they are supposed to sell at subsidized prices, they sell it at normal prices with all kinds of adulteration. The problem is in law enforcement.
Also, distributing free foods to capable adults (I am all for free meals for kids) is not the solution in the long run. Its like the saying goes, give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for life. India needs massive job creation and skill development so that people dont have to beg on the streets.

India’s Supreme Court made it compulsory only in 2001. But way back in fifties Mr K Kamaraj, then chief minister of Tamilnadu ( former Madras State) introduced ‘Midday Meals’ scheme. Subsequent Governments improved upon the scheme. Presently children are provided a balanced food which includes egg and plantain. On introducing this system it was found that the school dropout numbers reduced. Later this system of midday meals was studied by the Central Government and introduced throughout India.

That's true.... But only for this programme of "mid day meal" they really include all government primary schools of India where all children (mainly in rural areas) get a free lunch .... The food items vary from one state to another but its almost the same .. Either white rice or khichdi (mix of lentils and rice) or ekti (indian bread) with one or two vegetable curry .. These are cooked on spot , and basically are not junk ... But some schools still badly handle the resources (sometimes portions per persons are served small or quality degrades ) ... And its about 20% of the whole.project.. So, if this thing is fixed , I guess here a better meal is served with 3-4 types of vegetables, 2 types of lentils and rice or bread ..

Caste system in India isn't that bad as it is portrayed in media in the west. It's vanishing fast and open discrimination doesn't even exist. No one cares what caste the other person belongs to. It's only during some marriages that caste system comes into play. And it isn't really open discrimination. Many people choose to marry within their own caste(It is a matter of personal choice). Otherwise caste system is no longer prevalent in most parts of India (there might be exceptions but I haven't experienced it yet). Even our President belongs to a lower caste and no one cares about it.

Another benefit we have is we don't have to dispense worm tables to our kids at school, what needs to be done is your governments in africa and india need to be tried and punished for crimes against humanity. If anyone is paid $5 for working a day and lives in a hut and cannot feed their children that is what needs to be fixed. and their government acting like their doing such a noble deed, and letting their children eat starch meals its sad you think this is fantastic.

The Hare Krishna Engineer discussing nutrition, health and obesity! I've always had an interest in India, Pakistan etc. Adore the food, especially as it's great for vegetarians. I've an autoimmune disease and I can eat curry before anything else. I also have been drinking turmeric milk for a few years and using other spices also. I'm convinced that they definitely help plus the food is delicious. Well done to all of these people. Also, the parents have so little, but look how neatly dressed and obedient they are. A credit to them and to the parents who have so little.
I would so love to go to their Country, unfortunately I can't have the injections required. No bribery taking place with these particular people.....no cookies.... what a joy, as we know these companies would do anything to push their food and drink which we all know cause obesity.....

The breakfast, lunch, and sometimes "dinner" (dinner is for the kids who have to stay for tutoring and stuff, they don't serve it daily, it's occasional) are provided completely free yet the students barely eat and throw everything away.
Partly it's because they are spoilt kids who have never had to pay a cent for school lunch but partly it's also because of the bad tasting food.
My mom's told me some stories about some of the food they prepare.
One example is some meat patties/products they get sent can barely be called meat. They've been processed to the point of being plastic. It's all a bit tragic.

And if meat was offered, religious considerations would come in: Islam and Judaism forbid pork and Catholicism demands fish on certain Fridays. The catering firms would revolt if actual cooking took place on school grounds; the lunch lady is now condemned to reheating what others cook.

    • @norika2965

Fatimah Hussain it’s not that food isn’t enough, it’s more like food are terrible and bad
No matter what we try to tell our school officers , DOE, and etc
They keep making the food worst. We suggest they try this, but they blantly ignore us.
Just today I was told by my teacher to find a way to raise “lunch count” and I said “there’s no point in trying when the lunch people themselves don’t care, it’s their fault if they get fire.”
And I still remember their terrible attitude to me. (I have dietary restrictions)
People at my school stop eating their lunch since we can make cheaper foods and much healthier food and more delicious by ourselves he’ll even I know how. Whole cabbage for 1.99 a lb with the cheapest fish I found to be at 2.99 a fish. Cut it up into 5 lunches and it’s much cheaper, n if it’s a bit more expensive the money I put for school lunch is put towards something that can make me healthy
Can’t wait for the day they’re fire.

I think it's amazing what they are trying to do for their growing children. In the U.S., we would be condemning those parents for not bringing home enough to feed their kids. In India, they look for solutions and not judgement. That's the way it should be everywhere. The U.S. is one of the most judgmental countries in the world. We blame people for having children and then ending up on Food Stamps but, at some point, we as a people have to stop grouping all people who are on programs like Food Stamps with those who have never paid any taxes and had children knowing they would be on assistance. Many people here have lost their jobs through no fault of their own after years of working at the same place and now they are not getting new jobs because, companies want young workers. We should be more proud to support an essential part of life as Food more than our tax dollars going to useless wars and wasted on non-essential things.

...actually, migrants from Mexico and Central America die en route. Sometimes they die because human smugglers lock them in a truck then abandon it in the Texas heat. Sometimes they die in the Sonoran Desert in southern Arizona. There is also the Train of Death, which ferries Central American migrants through Mexico -- some migrants die when they hop on.

political movement is required for this achievement. here it started not by supreme court but by dr.kamaraj in late 19th century. google it. supreme then followed their case study and ordered for it to become enforced throughout india. nearly all major crisis boils down to who owns the capital of the country. now in usa donald owns and he destroys the pandemic office setup by bush. now he is responsible for nearly 20000 corona usa deaths. usa spirits are spiralling down. needed a reboot. all the best alex.

Just replace private corporations with non-profit charitable organizations that are backed by public donations. Problem solved. Akshaya Patra has a spiritual aspect behind their service, so you could get someone equivalent in the States to do that. Or any of your state governments can just approach them to institute a program for underprivileged kids in the USA.
