true- I have always questioned that myself; he should have won in GF 1 and 2 for sure, and possibly nominated for one in 3. I know 3 is underrated but it's not Pacino's fault Coppola decided to be that nepotistic to play his whole family is some key and defining roles that could have and should have made it very remarkable too but Al was just... AL. But yeah, he's been in epic roles, been great and funny and tough... but someone in Hollywood just possibly didn't like him. Maybe it's his giant nose or that he's short... you just never know. But Oscar or none, this is one of the very best actors we have ever known and am glad I lived through his time too even though am a lot younger than he is

Great performances in G1&G2.His character development in those two movies was remarkable. There was no award-no recognition- that he should have been denied in those two movies.Unfortunately, his performance in G3 was horrible.

I agree with you on it. The film is below the first 2. But I have warmed up to it a little over the years. I think you feel with the first two that Coppola's heart was in it. With the 3'rd one it felt more like it was just a service job to the studio.

Probably overrated. He hasn't been in that many great movies. Is it because Godfather 1 and 2? Without 1 and 2 he doesn't have a whole lot to fall back on. He hasn't really stepped outside of gangster roles that much. Scent of a woman was good but kinda cheesy and unrealistic. I think there is a good handful of actors that come before him not to mention actresses.

Michael was very intelligent, gifted with an inclination for strategic thinking, political maneuvering and a cold, calculating disposition that allowed him to operate in volatile situations. He understood how to wield power, and this ability drew him in little by little. The best example is the plot to kill McClusky and Sollozzo. All the seasoned criminals in the family thought it was impossible, but Michaels keen political mind saw an opening to bend the narrative using the family’s newspaper connections, making it a viable option. Additionally, he knew Sollozzo would never suspect him of pulling the trigger - keen strategic thinking. He was the only one to see the opening.

In part 1, I believe the military is what awaken Michael's dark side and took him away from the shy lovers boy persona. And it made him comfortable with getting involved in the mafia because the war wasn't any different from back home.. Then the quietness that made Michael a threat in part 2. That sense that You couldn't figure him out as easily but him being quiet, plotting on his next move, rarely showing emotion and the extreme serious facial expressions made him a chilling Character...THEN in part 3, you see him opening up more and dealing with alot of regret and wishing he could had done everything a whole another way because he can't handle all the blood that was left on his hands. He's a all around well written character...He could be seen as the villain or the good guy just trying to keep his family well..All in how you view him.

+Carlou Espedillon in a way it did. In Sicily , he tried to live a new life but soon realized his past was following him. His enemies were able to track him down. He wasn't extremely depressed over her death but it was a wake up call for him and made him realized how serious things can get. Remember, he did that hit for his father..Not because he wanted to join the mafia but by code...That hit made him a official member and there was no turning back after that. He had joined the mob and his enemies now looked at him as such and not a war hero.

I think that the true catalyst of his fate was the piece of shit Barzini. Think about it. Michael always held some honor and had a conscience. Barzini had none. Vito trusted Barzini and Barzini, simply because Vito refused to go into the Drug road, attempted to one by one kill off the Corleones..Michael Sees his father almost killed,,Then he hears about Sonny being dead ( At the hands of Barzini ) Then his wife dies at the hands of Barzini ( Was supposed to be him ) and then he knows that Barzini has teamed up with Tessio to kill him. Barzini just pushed Michael over the edge of sanity and reality. Barzini encouraged the other families to conspire against the Corleones as well. Barzini was the biggest piece of shit in the Godfather series...by far. His death was much more kind and quick as to what I would have liked it to be.

Whenever I'm asked what is my favorite movie, I answer The Godfather Trilogy, the three films which I combine as a whole. The movies brilliantly showcase the gradual devolution of Michael: from war hero and idealistic college graduate to a ruthless Mafia don to an old and ill man seeking redemption. It's a brilliant performance - and Al deserved an Oscar for each of these films. A great actor and a kind and generous man.

It's like some songs first performed by a specific artist, once that is done, no one, but no one, can assume that. Al Pacino, as Michael Corleone, is of such phenomena.

Oscars need Pacino, He won against Malcom X and even Denzel accepted that he was more deserving and he got a standing ovation for his announcement and spoke for 4 mins while Oscar usually allows for only 1 minute. Al is the greatest actor of our generation and most of Hollywood knows this. Him, Morgan ,Robert , Denzel , Oldman etc are last of old guard who are actually talented actors rather than being in a movie because a producer owes them a favour.

It’s a disgrace that Al Pacino only has 1 Oscar. Al Pacino portrayal of Michael Corleone is breathtaking. Watching “The Godfather Trilogy” you see every emotion through Al Pacino’s eyes as Michael Corleone change from “All-American Boy” to “The Don”. I be hooked soon I turn on “The Godfather” because I need to see Michael Corleone’s transformation.
Al Pacino is one of “G.O.A.T.”

There was a great New Yorker piece in which Rose is interviewing Death. He keeps talking over him, interrupting him, asking questions and then answering them - everything he normally does. At the end, before Death has had a chance to say a complete sentence, Rose says: "We're out of time which is a shame because you were so fascinating. I hope I'll see you again." And Death says: "Oh, you'll definitely be seeing me again, Charlie..."

A ganster is not a man with honor. A gangster is a good-for-nothing scum, who adds no value. But Corleone is a father, a heroe, a role model, a real man who is honorable and respectable. This kind of man is the one who kicks every gangster scumbag in the ass. Gangsters wanting to be somebody, but real men like Corleone are somebody!
