Did miss the how-to explanation? How do you tap cross current speed, as opposed to going downstream sideways? As a beginner, I don’t really know how to go cross-current. Worried about flipping.
Thanks for checking out the video and for the question/comment. It is a bit of a long answer but will do my best to provide an actionable and simple response.. First: picture an imaginary line across the river 90 degrees to the current. Second: any travel across the river + or - 10 degrees to this I would consider cross current momentum Third: to generate cross current speed you need to keep your boat within that + or - range Fourth: when leaving an eddy, with with an angle that will allow your boat to spin downstream in a controlled manner, we need this soon to offset into cross current speed. As the boat starts to spin, counter act it with a downstream sweep or power stroke. If the stroke spin matches the speed the boat is spinning downstream you will generate cross current speed. Try it somewhere simple and very comfortable to start. It will take a few tries to get the power of the downstream stroke correct. When you do however, if you stop paddling your boat will move cross current for a time without it turning you downstream. This is the feeling we are aiming for. You can see examples of this in the video. This is generally a session or two on the water to learn/ teach so hopefully this short description works.. We will do another version of this in the future to breakdown the actual how to of generating that momentum. Cheers
@@AQOutdoors thank you! You’re already helping me a lot. Will speak with my instructors and pals tomorrow on the river, and try practicing killing downstream speed with cross-current speed. But yes you’re so great at explanations that anything more you can say will likely be ultra helpful. Thank you!!!
I love everything about this video! It's saved to my favourites as a reminder to get off the freight train!
Heck yes!!!! it makes paddling so much more fun (and less scary)! Thanks Karen
Excellent video.
Thanks for checking it out and for the kind words.
Very nice Video and high produktion value
Lukas Kociok thanks so much for the kind words. Hope it is helpful.

@@yousweetpotato1 you are very welcome. Thanks so much for the kind words..
0:15 How many takes did that take?
The move in the RPM? I don't want hundred percent remember. However we do that move an awful lot, so I don't think too many takes.
@@AQOutdoors no M8 I was talking about that mouthful of a sentence
@@freddiemedley5580 ha ha ha.. ok . For it..yep.. a few takes on that one for sure...
Great video! Great advice... Except if there's a hidden rock at the top of the eddy you're carving into 😭😂 #beatersrus
Ha ha.. thanks for the comment and stoked you enjoyed the video. Yep, those sneaky hidden rocks can certainly cause some grief..
@@simoncoward34 I'm really enjoying the content. Even if I'm a little late to the party. Thank you.
