Thank you for making this oil change tutorial. I have a 1987 300D turbo just like the one in your video, even the same color. I am getting ready to do my first oil change and after watching your excellent video I have the knowledge and confidence to do the job properly. Thank goodness I didn't trust the local garage to do it because I'm sure they wouldn't have done it correctly and screwed it up. I also did not want to drive 25 miles to the Mercedes dealership and pay a fortune for them to do it. So thanks again, great job!
Many thanks! I bought two days ago the same car with the same year, 1987. You did a fantastic video teaching. I need more tutorial videos like this one! I will search other videos you have done.
Als Boehmen noch bei Oesterreich war! Greetings from a former European. I see that your car's tach is sitting at zero with the engine running. There is a relais right above the battery towards the windshield wiper, replacing it will probably fix the non working tach. I have owned 2 of these tractors made by Mercedes. What lovely machines. Keep doing what you are doing! You own one of the last common sense cars! And capable of giving better mileage, better cost over the lifetime, better than pretty much anything on the road. 1987...almost 30 years on the road and still daily drivers!
Great video, you go into a lot of detail to make sure people do it right the first time. I'm thinking of buying this car and it looks like a relatively easy engine to work on. Thank you
Just did the oil service on my 1986 300sdl, liqui moly engine flush, liqui moly oil friction treatment and CONVENTIONAL 15W-40 shell rotela. Oil pressure at operating temperature increased by 0.5 bar. Now it runs a 2 bar at idle.
you can reuse crush washers several times to very good effect if you lightly sand them with a fine grit paper to remove any burs, and then heat them with a torch. the reason copper is used is that before it work hardens it's quite soft and will flow into imperfections in the mating surface, but after doing this once parts of the copper have work hardened to the point that it can't do this a second time. but reheating the copper softens it back up. don't practice this if you only have one crush washer available, though, because if you apply too much heat for too long the copper will melt. and being very small, thin pieces of copper, this is pretty easy to do, so it will take a little bit of practice and attention to learn the skill. but with a bit of practice, this technique can allow you to do maintenance work even when a fresh crush washer isn't available, which can save your ass every once in a while.
I save my old crush washers just in case. after I've accumulated a large enough number of the same type I'll melt most of them down into copper ingots, but always save a few of each size just in case I need to reuse them.
Great video, Thank you. My question is does this engine have a cast iron block or aluminum block? Looking to purchase a 1987 with 207,000 miles on it. I know it is over 30 years old so please comment on that too. Car looks great with only minor seepage of oil around head gasket. Inside and out looks great. I love Mercedes! Thanks, Bill
What happened which fuel filter, how often you should change that I'll change every time when it's a time for oil change please let me know yours video it's very helpful thanks
Thank you for posting this video, if not for me than for the sake of the car! I'm about to do an oil change on my new to me 1987 300TD Turbo diesel and I was wondering what the bolt in the middle of the oil filter cap was for. Now I know. I'll make sure the oil tube and its tiny little oil port is clear, too, thanks to you. My 84 300SD didn't have that. But ... no Mobil 1?
Thanks for the video. Changed oil yesterday and started the engine up. Today i hed to fill in more oil. Its it's pitch black allready. I gone change oil soon again then ceep it clean. I am looking for engin identification for my om603 1210hk whitout turbo 110hp. Please help me to find designation nomber for the engine.
In order for the torque to be correct, when using a torque wrench, when tightening, one need to hold the wrench to the designated handle. Otherwise, if done like on the video (wrench held anywhere else) the torque will not be correct.
Hello do you know where a new return pipe can be found? i have the exact same car and the previous owner stripped the bolt! thank you for all the videos!!!

That is a nice Mercedes, I have bought here in the US, a 1987 300SDL, and I just bought a 1984 300TD wagon, going to do an oil change on it
you can also pour the new oil into the oil housing.. I did that and it is fine. I put 4 qts in the housing and the rest by the valve cover.
Always clear.
