Hi Kyle. I started this year learning myself web development (I am working as CG 3D artist at the moment). I am 38 this year (so I am quite old😅), and event that you much younger than me and I know other tutors like DevEd or Brad (kudos for you guys, you are great!) you still my favorite youtuber in web dev subject🙂. Keep it up good work and waiting for more cool videos from your 😁
I've recently started this. After 11 years working as a bartender and working 70 hour weeks, I decided to pack it in and focus on what I've always wanted to do. Since I decided to jack it in and wake up at 5am. I've been able to Boost my productivity 5 fold and thats just within a couple of weeks. Honestly couldnt agree with this more.
You have a ton of wisdom for someone your age, and I'm not speaking condescendingly!! Love your channel & your approachable demeanor. You earned my SUB lol
I'm on my way to the city where I study and you have just made these 10 minutes better. I have the same problem you had before, but it's hard for me to change my life so drastically. However I'll get my shit together and try this from Thursday. Cheers!
I'm glad I could brighten your day. Starting small and getting up just 30 minutes early is a nice way to ease into the habit of getting up earlier. Also just having a consistent time you get up and go to bed each day even if it isn't early will help a ton with making this habit easier.
Great video! The reason why I was interested in this video is that I do get up at 5 am every day. I started doing it not long ago, just 3-4 weeks. And it is getting easier. I want to say that I agree with everything you said and want to add that I have a satisfying feeling of accomplishment after I am done with my work and the rest of the day feels great, too. Cheers!
I agree, and I’ll like to add that some people have it easier than others, if you city is in the correct timezone is easier, I live in Mexico City which is one hour ahead it’s correct timezone, and two hours ahead in the summer, thus in April it the sun rises as late as 7:35, and sets at 8:35 pm, so for a morning person like me it’s super hard to be so miss-aligned from the sun.
Maybe you're a real owl that doesn't get tired in the final part of the day. Roll with it. Try to find a boss that values your work and lets you get in at 10am
I got up for school at 7 AM for years and never got used to it. I'd physically struggle to even keep my eyes open, and then at night I'd stay up until 2 AM. I do believe that we're hard-wired to be morning people or night owls, at least some of us. I agree that getting up early makes the day seem longer and be more productive. I like it when I get a lot done and it's only lunch time. So I'm always torn between what I know is better and what my body wants to do 😅 I think every day at 5 AM is too much, though. Even going out for dinner would be hard after getting up so early. Maybe around 7-8 AM, a bit later on weekends. I'm going to try it.
That 70s show started in 1996 and took place in 1976. If it were to be made today it would be called "Thats 00s show" and take place in 2001, feel old.
That's true. I can see by myself that in 11PM I can read the same article three times and get only 20% of what I read but in the morning everything so clear and obvious
I get up at 4:15. Travel 45 minutes to my job as a maintenance technician. Id rather sleep til 5 and work as a developer. Thats where you can help and you are. Determined
I'm gonna try this. Maybe not 5AM rightaway, but I'll try 7.30 at first (instead of go to bed at 2 and wake up at 9 lol). Before attending college my day routine was normal and my health was fine, but ever since the situation is getting worse. I sometimes can't even eat due to stress and my lack of sleep. Guys, take care.
It's all about changing habits gradually. Fortunately i've got my mentor to help me get up early. When I was younger I woke up at 6am at christmas and 6:45am for school and appreciated the morning. Since having depression I've struggled to get back to that but now I'm gradually building up and fall down again. The main thing is to keep trying. This morning I literally was dreaming. I'm working on getting to bed earlier. Thanks Kyle for a bit of motivation to get to bed early tonight.

5am starts in order to stay healthy, this means bed at 9 or 10pm for people watching this. Lack of sleep compounds problems and may be linked to increased risk of alzheimer's. Just a heads up
I was thinking the same thing, although I admire his motivation to do this, the research and evidence points to a circadian rythm rather different. 8 hours is recommended on average to avoid all sorts of health problems including and not exclusive to heart disease, cancer and alzheimers...
@@jamespawson6045 People who waste time on scrolling their social media feeds, sleeping at 1am or 2 am should not talk about health right? Getting 7 hrs sleep & waking up early would be fine.
LACK of sleep is what is not good. People generally associate lack of sleep with sleeping late. If you are sleeping late and getting up late, as long as u dont go to work or study, like vacations, then thats okay
How, when and what activities do you use to relax/unwind? I'm working an 8 hour a day web dev job at a company and also spend 1-2 hours to work on some personal projects to expand my skills. I find this whole idea of waking up earlier exciting, whenever I hear it, but most of the social events like going out, precovid and poscovid era, are going to be after 9-10 am. Are you totally avoiding these sort of social interactions? I think some are fun
Really Bro this awesome i means lots of people waste there time and says they are not having much time but actually they are just wasting time in night doing little bit work then move insta and youtube then do work again same until 2am then sleep !
This. Absolutely. And i am not interested in sun light or anything. I love darkness and the night and calmness, makes me productive as fuck, but 0 will power in before lunch.
I managed to break this cycle by giving myself permission to not do anything productive immediately after getting up for the first few weeks during the adjustment period. Just getting out of bed and having breakfast is enough. You can add more productive tasks to your mornings when you're used to the new routine.
I totally agree. My problem is socializing. Most of my friends are online to chat quite late. That's what keeping me from having an earlier sleep schedule.
I know the feeling. Usually when I stay up late laying in bed watching TH-cam videos I end up down a rabbit hole watching 9 year old videos on the most random stuff.
That`s nothing, I wake up at 4 AM and dive into the arctic ocean and read underwater the book clean code.I get out of the water, fight a polar bear and go to work. Waking up at 5? Phhhh, weak.
I enjoy watching your teachings. They are of high quality and enjoyable. I am grateful for that... As Muslims, we wake up early in the morning and perform prayers for the sake of Allah's pleasure. These hours usually vary between 03:30 AM and 05:30 AM. And the advice of our Prophet (Hz. Muhammad) is, "Seek your sustenance after the morning prayer." In other words, if you wake up early in the morning and do not go back to sleep, it will be more beneficial and virtuous for you. His advice can truly change the lives of many people. Just like fasting helps to rest the stomach and intestines, there are many benefits... His life is like a living Quran... That's why I feel very fortunate to be a Muslim...
Additionally, everyone should adjust their sleep schedule in 90-minute intervals. Every 90 minutes, people go through a cycle of deep sleep and wakefulness. This is scientifically proven... That's why I usually sleep for 3-4.5 or 6 hours. If I have a lot of work, I sleep for 3 hours, and if I feel more relaxed, I sleep for 6 hours. But generally, I prefer 4.5 hours.
It doesn't make any sense to prescribe a specific number for people to get up. It's different for everyone. The only thing that matters absolutely is getting at least 7-9 hours of sleep and going to bed/waking up at the same time every day.
I can Totally relate with you exactly what you have said Like spending time unproductively at night. But my problem is I am night owl because being college dropout I have no schedule and do need to make video at midnight 12 and editing, rendering, posting does takes lot of time and like you, I do sleep at 3-4/5 am But I'll definitely try to set my routine normally once I start working on my startup
I am not trying to be religious here but What you know now is what Islam told us 1400 years before. Thumps up for following one tiny rule of Islam and keep this amazing routine.
The most important for me is to have a time where no one bothers you....that time makes you better than other people.... This time can very late night or very early morning.... Now, early morning had a great benefit and that is, by having this time in the start of the day gives you the control over that day..... otherwise you are controlled by the day.
Currently (from Sep/2021) from my perspective night time is much more productive for me. Night time in general has lesser distractions compared to day time. No one to bother me, extremely quiet to the point where you can clearly go through your thoughts, less chances to leave the house etc. I usually start working from around 10PM untill it's 3AM minimum. But as you've said it does come down to self-will. I have nights where I am not productive at all and some nights where I can't stop working on a project till I get it done. So, to summarize both should be taken depending on how your work environment goes. If you have a work environment that does work through the day then wake up early and vise versa for the night time. But if you're a freelancer that can do work at any time he/she wants then I say wake up according to your personality (do you like going out and socializing or you like to stay at home and do your hobbies?). It all comes down to your personal preference and the situations you're in.
Believe or not, it toke me about 3 months to adjust throw this new routine. It took me so long because of the fuckin' weekends. I didn't think that they were the problem! btw i sleep at 8 and woke at 3, maybe then take a nap from 11am to 11:30 or 12pm nothing more and i study like a psycho nonstop absolute grinding and i'm getting things done more than i can ever imagine
Thanks for inspiring me again🙌 I'm not a morning person but i do wake up early some time and enjoy doing my work in that peaceful and productive time. Will try make it my daily routine 🤗
I like how honest you are on this topic, a lot of people I've seen talk about it have said how easy it was etc. Personally, I do the night owl thing, getting to bed somewhere between 12am and 1am. I get up for work at around 7am and finish work at about 6pm. I get home, eat and do some development, try to learn new things. My job has some coding in it, but it's not the primary focus and that's what I want. It may all change soon though as I'm moving in with the girlfriend haha.
Thanks Kyle. I've been feeling this subconsciously for a while since I have kids and have to get up relatively early but was hesitant to give up the late night alone time... Thinking about giving it a serious go
same, but no kids, im 24, and i get a very rewarding feeling having that late night alone time, its just that the last thing i wanna do in a day is chill by myself , seriously thinking about giving this a try.... any updates from your side?
I don't believe in this night person/morning person bullshit. It's easy to stay up late and sleep whenever you're 'tired', but it's hard to have a consistent sleep schedule. Just sleep a certain time and wake up at 5/6. Personally I go to bed at 9pm and wake up at 5am, I'll make my bed, do morning workouts, eat, and study something I like (usually math and physics) for 2 hours before heading to work. The 'resistance' you feel when trying to sleep earlier is just the adjustment period, you may be a little sleep deprived for the first few days but just get over it.
I really like the explanation of the willpower and having less of it at the end of the day. I hadn't thought of it this way and found this video really helpful. Thank you. :)
I do appreciate the video, and I have no doubt it's beneficial for many, but many of us are night owls from birth. And while you weren't going to the gym on those hours or improving your web development skills, but you were enjoying life. As I've gotten older I've learned to miss that. And I am often up in the early AM hours mixing in web development-related videos into my YT playlist. I am a night owl not by choice, habit, or behavior. I've tried any number of methods to try to break out of it, and I am able to fully function in the "normal" world, but the cold, hard reality is that my body and brain are most awake at different hours that don't correspond to that normal schedule. My best work, my best thinking, my best workouts, my best output and performance of everything comes at different hours.
Hi Mate, I only discovered this video just now but I have been in that mode a year ago. After coming back to Europe after traveling Asia, I decided to just keep my sleep times and not shift them which ended up in getting up at 6 AM. It was amazing. I would get up, have a coffee, go for a walk on empty streets and get some sunlight in, come back home and start on personal projects or just reading a book. Workwise, my first meeting would always be at 10 AM. It felt insane every day how much I would have done in my personal life in those 4 hours, before showing up at work. However covid has changed all that. I've been doing 24/5 home office and I got really lazy... getting up 1-5 mins before the first meeting (Yeah... nowadays I get up at 9.55 latest and 9.50 earliest...) Thanks for making this video. It really motivates me to get back into that mode. And even raising it to 5 AM instead of 6 AM. To everyone else: I can confirm everything that was said in the video. I've been in that mode and it is so much better than being a nightowl. I too would go to bed between 1-3AM and always thought I was just a nightowl, but as Kyle says, its just a habit

I've started from 2pm (yes I had to set my alarm to 2pm) now it rings at 9am and I'm having 5-6 hours of focused studying done every day. the moment when you realize that time is 5pm and you had already a great efficient day is incredible. I'm slowly coming to 5am :)
Congratulations! That is awesome.
@@WebDevSimplified found you today while I got stuck at my studying. great content! thank you for all these!
Keep it up good work and waiting for more cool videos from your 😁
Your videos are more addictive than those series from Netflix. My ⏰ is already set at 5AM. Can't promise I'll get up, but at least I'll try.
Yes!!! Yes!!! the earlier the better. Especially if you have room mates. The most you will get done is during that uninterrupted time.
Also just having a consistent time you get up and go to bed each day even if it isn't early will help a ton with making this habit easier.
i found this channel and i think that is the best channel that i saw ever in my life, thanks for all!
Native English is sooo hard for me, but time is coming when I can listen without subs... Thx for motivation!
Gonna start your routine from tomorrow. Thanks Kyle. You are a good man.
I'm already proud I've been waking up before 10am in the last few weeks lol
Getting up early, when actually done, feels great. Nice video.
Watching this at 3am thinking I should probably go to sleep now.
Maybe you're a real owl that doesn't get tired in the final part of the day. Roll with it. Try to find a boss that values your work and lets you get in at 10am
@@jamescater66 I'm exactly working for a company who let's me start my work on 10am everyday 🙃
This just came up in my feed today, and I really needed to hear it at this moment.
This guy is no doubt one of the most talented programmers on TH-cam. I know he worked extremely hard to get there. Gotta give 5am another shot.
"when i was in college..."
man, i thought you were in high school lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣
That 70s show started in 1996 and took place in 1976. If it were to be made today it would be called "Thats 00s show" and take place in 2001, feel old.
That's true. I can see by myself that in 11PM I can read the same article three times and get only 20% of what I read but in the morning everything so clear and obvious
Having a kid made me shift from being a night owl to going to bed at 10pm and waking up at 6. Probably an extreme example.
Host is so genuine
This. This is why I subbed. Programming aside, of course.
This is great, the below is my schedule
4-5 AM - Wake up. Prepare tea and Read 10 pages
5-6 AM - Learn new technology(predecided the previous night, like GraphQL project or something)
6-9AM - Work on an imp project
9-5 PM - Go to work and work on your office stuff
6-7 PM - Commute back home
7-8 PM - Freshen up and have light dinner
8-9 PM - Work on that imp project
9-10 PM - Read at least 10 pg
10-4 - Sleep

@@syz3981 Yes I tried that in 2017. 6-7 Gym, and 7-9 Project work. But then started to take that 1 hour in my work and go to play soccer every weekend.
@@newstrend4755 I get tired as well but take a shower and you will be up and running. For mental fitness try power naps, 20 min if you feel so. You will definitely love working after that.
Because when you're learning and not doing physical work, you're using too much of your brainpower and shower won't help you.
So for me, a power nap was the best option. Also, check Tim Ferris's tips on meditation as well.
I started to follow you for CSS skills and teaching ability. You are great as teacher/developer.
With this video i feel so near with your experience, and get me motivated. You outdid yourself :) Thanks Kyle, big up.
Everything you explained, it's so relatable to me. Thank you for this video. I will try to be a morning person.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will give a try starting tomorrow morning.
5am starts in order to stay healthy, this means bed at 9 or 10pm for people watching this. Lack of sleep compounds problems and may be linked to increased risk of alzheimer's. Just a heads up
True. I generally lay down for bed around 930 to 10 most days so I get at least 7 hours of sleep
@@webdevvibes Are you implying that James is that type of person?
Great video man. I was able to do online college courses while I was in the military because I got up every morning at 0430. Keep crushing it dude!
I get up at noon - yesterday... But, like, for today 😇
0:00 Smoothest dev guy ever! LOL
Soo true
Very smooth ❤️
Really Bro this awesome i means lots of people waste there time and says they are not having much time but actually they are just wasting time in night doing little bit work then move insta and youtube then do work again same until 2am then sleep !
What about those of us that are more productive in the afternoon & evening? I have no will power in the morning, but I'm super energised after lunch.
People are different
The fact that someone feels good waking up at 5am doesn't mean that rest of the world will be happy with it
This. Absolutely. And i am not interested in sun light or anything. I love darkness and the night and calmness, makes me productive as fuck, but 0 will power in before lunch.
as a muslim I get up at 5Am to pray coz this is required in my religion
I would need a hurricane or similar near my neighborhood to get up at 5.A.M and feel myself with the necessary energy to make anything productive
I managed to break this cycle by giving myself permission to not do anything productive immediately after getting up for the first few weeks during the adjustment period. Just getting out of bed and having breakfast is enough. You can add more productive tasks to your mornings when you're used to the new routine.
I never thought to try this out, but you've make a really good argument for waking up at 5am. I'm excited to give this a shot!
UGH I cannot stop looking at that ONE piece of hair that got away from the hairspray bottle
In India its common to wake up early....our culture ❤️❤️
Me, who gets up at 5am everyday anyway cuz of school:

I totally agree. My problem is socializing. Most of my friends are online to chat quite late. That's what keeping me from having an earlier sleep schedule.
Get IRL friends.
I am watching this at 3 am 😂
I know the feeling. Usually when I stay up late laying in bed watching TH-cam videos I end up down a rabbit hole watching 9 year old videos on the most random stuff.
Waking up at 4 am since years. Leveled up as a human 10x over
That`s nothing, I wake up at 4 AM and dive into the arctic ocean and read underwater the book clean code.I get out of the water, fight a polar bear and go to work. Waking up at 5? Phhhh, weak.

bruh lmao
I try and get my polar bear fighting done while I'm a sleep to stay on my schedule.
Ohh so you are RUSSIAN......

Muhammad) is, "Seek your sustenance after the morning prayer."
In other words, if you wake up early in the morning and do not go back to sleep, it will be more beneficial and virtuous for you.
I wake up early and stay up late already
*Watches first 30 seconds*
Yep, already agree
It doesn't make any sense to prescribe a specific number for people to get up. It's different for everyone. The only thing that matters absolutely is getting at least 7-9 hours of sleep and going to bed/waking up at the same time every day.
I can Totally relate with you exactly what you have said
Like spending time unproductively at night.
But my problem is I am night owl because being college dropout I have no schedule and do need to make video at midnight 12 and editing, rendering, posting does takes lot of time and like you, I do sleep at 3-4/5 am
But I'll definitely try to set my routine normally once I start working on my startup
You are a huge inspiration as well as mentor. Thank you
Alhmdullah i wake up 4 am Since I was 9 becuase we are the muslim pray Daybreak at It is 5 in the morning
Namaz parhny k baad dobra so tu ni jaty🙄
I m the opposite. I sleep after praying fajr, in my region around 5am, and then I wake up and pray zuhr
I totally feel what you said.
I will give it a shot for a month.
I am not trying to be religious here but What you know now is what Islam told us 1400 years before. Thumps up for following one tiny rule of Islam and keep this amazing routine.
You are the best web dev tutorial channel on youtube.
As a Muslim, I have to get up early every day for morning prayer 👍🏼
It really reminded me of the hadith on how there is blessing in the early hours of the day.
I didn't think that they were the problem!
btw i sleep at 8 and woke at 3, maybe then take a nap from 11am to 11:30 or 12pm nothing more
and i study like a psycho nonstop absolute grinding and i'm getting things done more than i can ever imagine
until you mum wake up's for fadjr prayer and start sending to the shop all the time ahahahah
Thanks for inspiring me again🙌
I'm not a morning person but i do wake up early some time and enjoy doing my work in that peaceful and productive time.
It's 4:23 in the morning and I'm watching this video 😬
I don't believe in this night person/morning person bullshit. It's easy to stay up late and sleep whenever you're 'tired', but it's hard to have a consistent sleep schedule. Just sleep a certain time and wake up at 5/6. Personally I go to bed at 9pm and wake up at 5am, I'll make my bed, do morning workouts, eat, and study something I like (usually math and physics) for 2 hours before heading to work. The 'resistance' you feel when trying to sleep earlier is just the adjustment period, you may be a little sleep deprived for the first few days but just get over it.
There’s a 5 o’clock in the morning?

The time you get up isn't important. The mindset about how to lead your day is most important.
