I was fortunate enough to take a tour/cruise on the Rhine a number of years ago while we were visiting my partners family in Frankfurt. It was a beautiful day and various stops along the way, coupled with the scenery, medieval castles, vineyards and small towns was such a memorable experience.
Large locks are inherently dangerous places. They seem to have become safer over the years, but they can still be dangerous. You guys did well. When I was about 15, I was witness to a double drowning at the Ouistreham locks on the Caen Canal (Canal de Caen à la Mer). There's a swing bridge across the main lock. It was opened to allow a ship to traverse the lock. People gathered around the lock to watch. When the ship powered out and the swing bridge closed, a man and his 12 year old son were swept into the lock. The water was still very turbulent from the prop wash and they both drowned. It was over 55 years ago, but I can still remember it.

Congrats!! You did it very well. Maybe it is worth to know that the big ships are obligated to disengage their clutch as soon as they are tied up. Mostly the prop wash is not an issue but especially for the small pleasure craft it is. As there is not a lot of pleasure craft in this area I can imagine that some of the skippers forget to disengage quickly. So you can ask the lock master (or the skipper) to do so. Hi Maya & Aladino - I’ve just come across your videos lately, and wanted tell you how much I’ve been enjoying them. I’ve only seen a dozen or so, but plan to go back & catch up with the whole story when I get the chance. (eg.: I kept wondering if you knew of the Odyssey’s claimed connections to all those islands you were visiting in the Mediterranean - it’s a very long running guessing game in literature aNd sailing lore.) Anyway, the images & the editing & the music are all absolutely wonderful! Also, I thought I’d pass along some music from another corner of TH-cam, in case you’d like it. I think Maya may have been saying her music is now more gallic & Mediterranean (& jazz) leaning, and I’m afraid all these pieces are right over from Britain - sorry! But I’m fond of lots of these folks because they came to play for us so often at a small club I helped out at over the years - Martin, and Nancy, and John McCusker, and Phil Cunningham. To start with, tho, I put a favorite version of all the many many versions of the sailor lass following her love to sea. If you don’t know it, you’ll find it quite the tale. Thanks again, looking forward to your long adventure! - jdr 🎻 th-cam.com/video/KlFKwY_YgZ4/w-d-xo.html

Look forward to Downstrem from Frankfurt to see if any major changes in 50 years which I doubt knowing Europe.😉
Hi Maya & Aladino - I’ve just come across your videos lately, and wanted tell you how much I’ve been enjoying them. I’ve only seen a dozen or so, but plan to go back & catch up with the whole story when I get the chance. (eg.: I kept wondering if you knew of the Odyssey’s claimed connections to all those islands you were visiting in the Mediterranean - it’s a very long running guessing game in literature aNd sailing lore.)
Anyway, the images & the editing & the music are all absolutely wonderful! - jdr

Sometimes, even pleasure boating gets a little boring. You might as well read a good book. 😉😁
Your weekly episodes have made lockdown and social distancing bearable. I am trying not to be too envious! From Perspectief on the Thames.
Nice episode ...

Hairy locks today, but as you said, better is to come (hopefully). Cool video, anyway, though.
