Cruising the Cut is the show that introduced me to sailing channels. It's a really fun channel given how low key it is. David has such a quintessential British presence and sense of humor. I'm looking forward to your time on the canals.

YAY! You DID do the best canal! My hubby and I had a narrowboat for 5-years and loved it! We Yank's love all that history along England's canals! There is nothing as beautiful or fun as cruising through England's canals, pub hopping, checking out beautiful castles, (Think Chirk Castle!) and working those locks! It's simply the best! SO happy you two got to experience our favorite thing to do in the world!!!!

Glad you enjoyed it, but credit to Wales, as that's where Llangollen and most of the canal is found. Castell Dinas Brân for instance, like a real-world fortress of Amon Sûl from Lord of the Rings...

I fell in love with narrowboats when we travelled to the UK in 2017. We started watching narrowboat TH-cam channels after that, and found David’s channel. We’ve followed him ever since. I think because we followed him other live aboard boat channels were recommended to us, and that is how we found you. I’m so pleased to see you both catch up.

That’s exciting news. I grew up in Salford England and as a teenager I would walk the paths beside the canals and fish for carp. Back in the 1980s the canals were in disrepair in my town and were full of trash old bicycles, prams and all sorts of rubbish but not anymore they have really cleaned the canals up. Have fun.

New York has the Erie Canal and many people living on all kinds of boats including narrow boats that you can hire . In total the canal with all of it's side passages is over 500 miles long . You can travel from Buffalo to just north of Albany as well as access to Cayuga and Seneca Lakes .

    • @kenmcclow8963
      @kenmcclow8963 ปีที่แล้ว +4

We have a few canals, but most fell out of use fairly quickly because of trains being easier to to build and run. The Erie canal is drained each year for maintenance after boating season and reopens in the spring. The old Canals like the Erie, C&O, and I&M all make great Bike trails now and can be ridden in Illinois, Ohio, and Maryland and New York.

I've been super interested in canal cruising after watching Nick and Terysa do the canals of France, so when I looked up canals around the world that one can cruise, discovering the history of Great Britain's canals was quite a fascinating and neat little rabbit hole to fall down.
It made me hope that some of the sailing channels I am familiar with might someday do it... and so of course The Wynns were there to make that wish a reality!
I look forward to seeing this entire little series!

Yes, the slower and calmer pace of the canals is going to be a lovely adventure at this time.

Chugging along on a narrow boat in the middle of the countryside is so much fun, after you learn to slow down & relax Into it.
Seeing your 2 year old child sitting on the beam of a lock as it swings out over the water as your narrow boat gets further away as the water leaves the lock does however get your heart racing somewhat but a bit of shouting to stay still and racing to a position of I will catch you if you fall means that no harm is done and the memory goes into family folklore😃

I have never been on a narrow boat before but I have been on a River cruise on the Norfolk Broads which is something that I definitely would recommend for you two.
You don’t have to worry about locks and the rivers are quite wider than the canal system, you don’t just get cruisers on the Broads but also Sailing Boats as well ( small ones and some quite large ones ) you also get the older more traditional types of boats which would go around the broads but also around the Norfolk Coast.
There is so much History on the Broads and I found it to be one of the most relaxing and interesting Holidays I’ve ever been on,nothing like waking up in the morning and being surrounded by a River Mist and therefore you feel as if you are floating on the clouds surrounding you,it’s pretty great because there are some interesting walks you can go on and visit traditional Water mills, it’s one of those Holidays that until you actually experience it yourself you can’t believe how beautiful and magical the Broads are ,it’s definitely a great place to de-stress and relax and there are so many interesting places to explore and visit.
When myself and my Father went it was in May and we had a week of perfect sunshine the first time, second time we went the following year in late May we had one day when it was extremely foggy and damp but it was like being all on your own and being cocooned in a different World, just the sound of the water occasionally slapping the side of the Boat as a Swan went past and a whispering noise of the wind ( slight breeze ) blowing through the Reeds nearby, with the occasional sound of some Birds nearby…. Both times we never bothered to have the TV on ,we just listened to the silence and read a book or sat gazing at everything around… it was for me one of those times when I wished I could draw or paint but you can take some marvellous photos of the scenery.
A week wasn’t enough for us but it was all we could afford but myself and my Dad could happily have spent Weeks and weeks just pottering around on the Broads, you would struggle seeing everything in two weeks because there are just so many things and places that you want to just have a look !.
Short walks to old villages with Thatched Cottages and Really old Churches and Seaside Ports as well with History going back hundreds of years.
I really enjoyed this video and I enjoy all your other videos, informative, interesting and Fun along the way with the Wynns, hearing people laugh and enjoying life is always lovely ❤

Came off the boats to join the army. Just three weeks ago. While you were touring with family. I decided I would look up Narrow boat touring and visit the familiar sites round and about Cheshire with a few video bloggers, and send hubs some links. Which he promptly expanded on. Last week, before he flitted off to check on our house to make sure it hadn't burned down, in the Alberta fires.
I talked up Gone with the Wynns and got him intrigued with deep water sailing. Though he has leaned more to tall ships.
Imagine my surprise this morning to find you out on the canals in Shropshire!
Looking forward to your adventures as always!

David is my favorite UK TH-camr! He is hilarious, and I’m so jealous you got to hang out with him!!!
He is the reason I want to leave Florida and move to the UK and live on a narrowboat!

This is so good! I am a proud gongoozler and seeing you both getting a chance to do something I dream to do some day with my family is quite a blessing for me. Being a subscriber to both channels it has been a joy to watch this amazing collaboration. Thank you all for bringing joy to the world.

I started out sailing and lost my yacht in an Irish sea storm back in 2018. I retreated to the inland waterways in 2019 and have lived aboard since then. I've followed your travels for many years. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to see you on my local canals. 🤗. What a rare treat. I'm glad you enjoyed the experience 🍻

❤ how this hired long boat is so well kept and clean! Also, very cool tidbits on the real Alpine Swift 🕊 , and how to blend in as a local boater: Run out and yell "OY, SLOW DOWN!" as soon as you hear any boat coming, no matter their speed. 😹

I feel like we have come full circle with you guys. We first found you from your Composting toilet video (that we bought) a few years after we moved from the UK to the US and bought an RV. We now travel the US in our Grand Design RV. All our family is in the UK and some of friends back in the UK live on Canal boats. Thanks for taking us back to the UK for just a few minutes ❤. No way we’d move back, but it’s very nostalgic watching this. Thank you 🙏

At last a Gone with the Wynns adventure I can relate to. I don’t sail and I don’t go anywhere particularly exotic, but I do live on a 70ft NB and have done for a long time.

When I first started operating narrow boats I came up with a simple rule to avoid steering confusion that might happen especially in a tight spot.
“ point the tiller at what you want to avoid”.
Simple and easy to remember for newbies .

Yippee!! We're so excited to see you two on a narrowboat in Great Britain! How fun, sweet and totally British! Getting introduced to your experience by the King of the Canals himself must have been fun. From the canals, you will have so many wonders to appreciate! We're excited to watch your narrowboat adventure. Cheerio 🙂
