To be alive during this amazing time is a privilege. I saw the wall go down, I have a piece at home. What a change!!

  • @kathilemieux1424

Song is about the change in Germany around when the wall came down

The Scorpions are indeed a German band, singing here about the fall of the Berlin wall and the reunification of their country after 45 years of division following WWII, among other things. I'm not 100% sure, but I think this particular concert was held in Moscow, which would have been impossible just 5-10 years previously. The world seemed full of hope at that time, in many ways the exact opposite of the way it is today.

One of the most iconic songs by Scorpions; a band from West Germany ( Germany then was split into East under the Russians and West under the Allies)...My favourite....I believe it was released in the '90s when the Eastern Bloc countries of Europe, and its youth were demanding "FREEDOM" from oppression by their governments.

The word "Moskva" is the transliteration of the word "Moscow" . There is also a river in Russia with the same name and is why the songs says to follow the Moskva (river) down to Gorky Park. Gorky Park is a literal park in Russia and kind of like our NYC, Central Park and is where the cold war spies of Russia and the US often met. Its about the end of the cold war.

German band. West at the time. This song was made after the collapse of Soviet Union and fall of the Berlin wall.

Hello...such a powerful song and so glad that all this wonderful music is being listened too by young people today because they just don't make music like this anymore :)

  • @genabourassa7962

They are an outstanding band with a truly complimentary singer he has a powerful voice I always enjoy Scorpions. If you like power ballads You should listen to Jimi Jamison of Survivor sing I'm Not That Man Anymore he has so much passion in that song you said you really liked his voice in High On You so I'm sure you will like it

  • @slider9675

    They kicked ass live too!

  • @Merri1961

Want to learn about Vietnam.....Goodnight Saigon by Billy Joel. This is a great song about the trouble in Russia. He whistles because he didn't feel comfortable singing......

  • @williamjones6031

The very first time I heard this was while watching a Filipino cover band in Singapore. I had been at sea so didn't get to hear it before that.

    Such a jam!

  • @stevehamilton8824

Amazing band. A song that is somewhat political without being in your face political. A song about the end of the Cold War. The fall of the Berlin Wall. Incredible vocals.

Yes, they are German….amazing band and a very powerful song

  • @andyh4224

I'm glad you mentioned the solo, its left out of the live version, no idea why ,but it completes the song and should never be left out, so thanks for doing this version. Alien nation is their hardest song, its fantastic, check it out next!!!!!!!!

  • @suzannewoodgate4661

    probably heard a soldier whistling

  • @miceandmen

I like your reaction :) Scorpions are my favourite band, and they have so many amazing songs. Brilliant musicicans, and one of the best voices ever in Rock. They have so many less known absolute gems. If you want to hear a really jaw dropping example for Klaus Meine's incredible voice, listen to We'll burn the Sky, preferrably an older recording. There's a video up on their channel from Musikladen 1978. I would love to hear what you think of that one :)
