You have do to Kate and Anthony from season 2. They are much more complex characters with flaws and shortcomings and lack of self-love.
You really do need to watch it there’s so many missing details that’s why you’re confused however. Season 1 in a nutshell
The short version is Daphne wants a husband but her brother is making it difficult and Simon doesn’t want to be bothered by the amount of women throwing themselves at him so they pretend that they are dating because women are desired when they’re unavailable and the mothers will leave him alone about their daughters if they see that he’s already with someone else.
Basically they end up actually liking each other they kiss in a garden her brother finds out he says they have to get married Simon says no because he refuses to have children and he actually loves her so he doesn’t want to subject her to that for the rest of her life. He doesn’t want children because he had a horrible relationship with his father and he does not want to carry on his father‘s legacy or name so he says he will never have children because his father cared more about their legacy than he ever did about taking care of Simon.
Daphne thinks Simon CANT have kids so when she finds out that he just WONT have kids she gets mad and they have a huge fight bc she basically forced him to try and get her pregnant (yikes) but she figures out why he’s so opposed to it bc his dad basically abused him and she forgives him and they work it out and eventually have kids
This relationship is kinda complex. It has a fake dating trope. A forced marriage trope. Miscommunication.
At 10:05 Simon is pushing her away because of stuff that happened in his childhood not because of something he did. Basically, his Dad was a really mean father. Simon had a stutter when he was a boy and his father was ashamed of him and didn’t want anything to do with him. Because of that he vowed to his father as he was dying to never having children and continue the family line of the Hastings family. Simon knows that Daphne wants children and even though he loves her he pushes her away because he wants her to have true love and a family.
11:26 Simon and Daphne kissed in the maze and her brother caught them. Basically she was compromised and they now have to get married. Simon doesn’t want that so her brother said the must duel at sunrise.

@@rishaa682 I definitely don’t think it’s okay, that’s just what happened in the show. Anthony hadn’t watched Bridgerton before so I was just giving him some context behind the scenes. But again I definitely think Simon was an idiot and their relationship was super toxic.

Unfortunately, I think the way the scenes were cut missed a lot of important context. Like that Daphne and Simon were intending to fake a relationship and were considering themselves only friends for much of the season, and yes the dude in the maze was the same one that she rejected (and he had been very aggressive and creepy prior as well).

I loved you watching this and analyzing it ❤️ Season 1 was great and it’s definitely worth a watch. Season 2 was another level AMAZING!!! Kate and Anthony are EVERYTHING! and you absolutely have to do a video on the second season of Bridgerton. In my opinion it’s was better then the 1st (by the way Simon doesn’t appear in the season 2 😢)
You will have SO MUCH more to react to with Kate and Anthony. They are the S2 couple and they are ENEMIES TO LOVERS DONE RIGHT. So many complex dynamics. Please react to them as well. p.s. find a detailed summary video or else you will miss out major psychlogical points.
The show is set during regency era England when courtship rules were very different. Calling someone by their first name was considered to be very intimate (and inappropriate - they wouldn't be allowed to do that in front of people until they married), that's why they reacted that way after using each other's names.
There are a lot of other rules (mostly for women, naturally 🙄), so if you're not going to watch the first season (only 8 hours, not 20), I suggest spending 15-20 googling courtship rules during regency era. It will make your life a lot easier!

I really really wish this was a reaction video to Bridgeton season 1 because if you watched the show from beginning to end your reaction would be a lot more spot on as to what was going on. It would have been very interesting to hear what you really would have thought if you had watched it.

Daphne is far from perfect, infact she has made the ultimate mistake during their marriage that I'm sure anyone who watched the show knows what I'm talking about because it was so controversial!! Their relationship was so complicated, you HAVE to watch the entire show to judge it

Yea it's a movie that's why their fights look good but in real life it's otherwise. But what I really learnt in the movie is that a good conversation can help a lot ,mostly at their post wedding ball ,where Daphne tells Simon *that he doesn't need to be perfect to be loved * .

My parents have been married for over 40 years and they’ve never fought. They disagree but they always respect the others opinion. They just really enjoy each other’s company. My dad was away for a few days with his siblings to watch the north west (motor bike racing) and when he came back he didn’t leave my mums side and cuddled with her every time they were sitting 😂

I get your point about hot and cold relationships, and you would really get a lot out of reading John Gotman. There's a ratio of 5 to 1 for a healthy relationships. You could have 1 massive blow-up every week, but if you have 5 good moments, the relationship is usually a happy one.

You really should watch it, its a great show just for entertainment. Oh an idea .. you should watch season 1 and 2 and do psychoanalysis on the main Bridgertons of that season. Season 1 Daphine, and maybe Simon because he is a main character even tho he's not a Bridgerton. Season 2 would be Antonthy and Benedict and Kate, season 3 if I'm correct it would be Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington (I could be wrong on season 3 but I think they are going to be the main focus of season 3. To understand why Simon is the way he is you really just have to watch it to understand it. It'd be difficult to put it into speech/ take way too long to explain. You should watch the show all the way tho. You'd probably enjoy it.
