Trains on the Trans Australian Railway (Second Edition)

  • The Trans Australian Railway is one of the most vital freight links in Australia connecting Western Australia with the rest of Australia. During the end of 2017, the line saw history with the last Aurizon Intermodal services running through from Melbourne to Perth. A number of other freight trains also feature in this second edition. Enjoy!
    Featuring Trains & Timestamps:
    00:25 - SCT Intermodal 5PM9 from Perth to Melbourne is seen at Hesso with SCT011/SCT013 at 1530 Hrs on Saturday the 9th of December 2017.
    02:10 - The second to last Aurizon 6MP1 is seen at the Wirrappa S Curve with 6029/6026 at 1715 Hrs on Saturday the 9th of December 2017.
    03:00 - The second to last Aurizon 6MP1 is seen again at Lake Hart with 6029/6026 at 1810 Hrs on Saturday the 9th of December 2017.
    04:15 - Pacific National Express Freight 6PM7 is seen near Burando at a little S Curve with NR8/NR? at 0805 Hrs on Sunday the 10th of December 2017.
    06:45 - SCT Intermodal 7GP1 is seen at the Wirrappa S Curve with SCT012/SCT006 at 1530 Hrs on Sunday the 10th of December 2017. GP1 is known as the biggest and heaviest train to cross the Trans as most of the train is double stacked.
    10:55 - Pacific National Superfreighter 6PM6 is seen heading downhill towards Wirrappa with NR53/NR101 at 1655 Hrs on Sunday the 10th of December 2017.
    13:15 - Great Southern Rail's Ghan Service from Adelaide to Darwin is seen for the last time in 2017 heading uphill through the first part of the Wirrappa S Curve with NR109/NR74 at 1910 Hrs on Sunday the 10th of December 2017.

    The SD-70 Mac's have their work cut out for them. That is a big string of Double Stacks and Containers. Great camera work. Thanks for sharing with us.

      Long distances, no towns to change crew. The passenger car has all the comforts of home, so they do it in shifts.

    I wonder if they wil one day introduce double decker carriges for the Ghan....or the carriges with the glass dome on top like the ones on the Canadian

    8.35 is 2 loco’s enough for these trains, they seem a bit challenged, how much hp are we looking at?🇦🇺

      Where that shot is taken is one of the steepest grades on the whole line. It's about the only spot they struggle. Beyond there, the track is fairly flat and built well. Sometimes you will see a third unit work on these trains but rarely. The SCT Class pumps out about 4500 horsepower (3355KW). Thanks for watching!
