I renewed my CA driver's license but it's not the Real ID due to not bringing my Marriage license. I had brought all the other documents they wanted. But she said to come back with the Marriage license and they will give me the Real ID. I had been married since 1979, had changed my name way back then. Had the same name all these years. WTH? The requirements for a passport or real ID are exactly the same though a real ID may be somewhat less expensive and will not allow international travel. A better name for real ID is "domestic passport" since you will need it to fly from one American state to another. The Real ID law was actually passed 20 years ago as part of many changes to combat terrorism but is only now manifesting itself as the final step for securing air travel. I believe that we've already secured air travel enough without Real ID. We take off our shoes. We walk through xrays. The items we may carry with us are strictly limited. For that reason Real ID to me isn't so much about securing air travel as it is about increased surveillance of the population in general as a means of fighting crime. I think this rule is oppressive. Americans shouldn't need passports to fly within their own country.

With a real ID you can access buildings you pay taxes on and you can get into Federal court houses despite the fact that no man shall be denied access to the courts. I went to renew my motorcycle drivers permit and I had to show proof of who I was, they would not except my real ID. Another thing the real ID does is collect SS numbers and places them in a data base where at the appropriate time the Tittle IV-D agency can access it and destroy your life by forcing you into an unconstitutional contract.

I got my "real id" in NC last year. I had to renew my license and I just happened to have my ss card, birth certificate(just in case) and CC permit..the CC permit worked because it shows my name address,birth date and its signed by the sherriff in my town. It didnt cost anything extra, at the time I didnt even know what it was.

I was not allowed to renew my driver's license in Massachusetts because I do not have an American passport, American birth certificate and I am not a green card holder. THIS IS RIDICULUS!!!! I was adopted in Europe over 50 years ago. So all I have is adoption papers. I moved here when I was a year old. Became a citizen in court when I was 5 y/0. Lost my adoption parents at a very young age. Became a ward of the state. So, I've been here, had a driver's license since 15. Have ss #, went to college, worked, volunteered, and paid taxes my entire career. Have been finger printed for my job, and have never been in trouble with the law. So, I was horrified to find out that I was denied my renewal driver's license bc I don't have a birth certificate. They told me to call HLS, and immigration. After a series of questions, HLS, and immigration told me that I was being discriminated against. And I should go to another DVM to get it renewed. I freaking live in Texas, and have never treated anyone like they treated me at the DVM. And the supervisor argued with me about how I have to have a birth certificate. I just politely told her that she probably needs to do a little research, and educate herself on closed adoption protocols from other countries, and from the 60s. They told me I was an illegal immigrant.
Fortunately, the passport book and passport card can be used instead of a Real ID. My current drivers license was issued in November 2015. State of Texas began issuing Real ID licenses in October 2016, so I basically got screwed by 11 months. They want me to pay again for the license. Double payment for the same damn thing, simply because of their arbitrary decision on when they started issuing the Real ID license. I would rather pay $30 for passport card from the Federal State Department and be good for the next 10 years, including October 2020 to November 2021 when my current "obsolete" drivers license will no longer be good for airports with Federal TSA security.

So I've been hurling curses pretty much ever since but your point was the first thing I thought of. So I get the notification that I am to serve on a jury but I don't have that "Real ID". Are they going to let me in the building? And then "assuming" that they would, of course, because, "oh, well that's different" and "well, we didn't mean it to apply for that," etc., I'm gonna be the crotchety old bastard who simply turns around and walks out because "according to the law, I ain't allowed in this building." I got my drivers license renewal notice. It told me that "to renew" (why is that in quotes?) I had to complete an online application. That I had to renew at a DMV office, get an appt in advance, and once there I had to take a 'knowledge test and a vision test.' These are not mentioned in the video. Below it said "If knowledge test is indicated be sure to study. Be sure to allow enough time for testing. Bring your glasses! But, is it true I really only need my passport? I don't want to do those other things.

I went to renew my bike permit and they said I need a document with my address on it. I asked if I could use my REAL ID. The said no So I have a real ID that is not excepted by the DMV but I can get into a federal court house, you know the building I pay taxes on.
You are mistaken if you believe or have been told that this will reveal more information about you than they already have. CA has gotten it all worked out and it was a process as smooth as could be. Actually, it seems to now have cleaned up and sped up the Drivers License renewal process. My birth cert (or the paperwork showing that you are a naturalized citizen) and a receipt for paying the utility bill for my residence. If you don't drive , your state ID renewal ca be renewed the same way, usually also at the DMV! This type of ID is the only ID we will need to keep the vote honest!
The so called Real ID is a joke, at least in my state, cause DMV doesn't ask for the info described in this video, it's automatically added to license without Any Background check yet when I renew my license, hazmat; I'm subject to a TSA Background check costing $185 & have transported hazmat for 33 yrs & retired military. As my schedule didn’t permit me to visit the DMV during the work week, I chose this location as they are one of the few office locations that they have open on Saturdays.

Why the hell would the Federal Government depend of state government branches (The DMV) to mandate and regulate a background check on you with your DL? Did you know that you cannot get a real i.d. if your in arrears of child support. They will only give you a old version of the states I.D. because they don't want you to be able to fly domestically. My friend works in California DMV.
The DMV had all of the information required for a REAL ID all along. When I applied here in California for the REAL ID I showed them my Pennsylvania birth certificate that by Pennsylvania rules only has my name, date of birth, county of birth and sex and no other information. So to get a REAL ID in California I had to contact Pennsylvania and have them put my mom and dad's name on a certified copy of my birth certificate. That sealed the deal. No other information was required. Of course, the DMV already had my date of birth, my address (where they mailed my drivers license for the past 30 some years) and my social security number. So by showing them my birth certificate with my mom and dad's name told them nothing because my parents are dead and what difference does that make anyway? So I don't get how this is anymore a REAL ID than my old drivers license. I think this is to make it so people have a harder time voting. Without the REAL ID you can't vote. Along with gerrymandering, limiting voter hours, cutting local voting places and putting them where there is limited public transportation is a way for politicians to chose their voters rather than the voters choosing their politicians. Here’s the thing with me: I’m flying this year 2020 to nyc and I have a California Id that’s longways cuz I don’t have a drivers license the reason being that I don’t drive but however I also do have a passport with me. will that be accepted for me to fly? I have a current passport. Is it worth the hassle to order a 29 year old marriage certificate and then a divorce decree? Plus my mortgage and utility bill is in my previous name. The past has my current name. Just received it in April. What do think my best option is? My license expires in August. Maybe I should just renew my regular license ?
My con with Real ID is that the process is lengthy. I signed up for Real ID in November 2019. I was supposed to get an updated card by Thanksgiving 2019, but it didnt go through. I tried again in February 2020, but I never got it. Eventually, I would get a new Real ID card in February 2021.
The fed wants the high resolution pic of you, usable for facial recognition, stored in a database. It does not help recognizability on your DL any better than the current low resolution pic already there, because of how small it is on your license. tidbit: That's the Fell Street DMV in San Francisco. I drive by it all the time.

I went to renew my motorcycle drivers permit and I had to show proof of who I was, they would not except my real ID. Another thing the real ID does is collect SS numbers and places them in a data base where at the appropriate time the Tittle IV-D agency can access it and destroy your life by forcing you into an unconstitutional contract.

I got my "real id" in NC last year. I had to renew my license and I just happened to have my ss card, birth certificate(just in case) and CC permit..the CC permit worked because it shows my name address,birth date and its signed by the sherriff in my town. It didnt cost anything extra, at the time I didnt even know what it was.

I was adopted in Europe over 50 years ago. So all I have is adoption papers. I moved here when I was a year old. Became a citizen in court when I was 5 y/0. Lost my adoption parents at a very young age. Became a ward of the state. So, I've been here, had a driver's license since 15. Have ss #, went to college, worked, volunteered, and paid taxes my entire career. Have been finger printed for my job, and have never been in trouble with the law. So, I was horrified to find out that I was denied my renewal driver's license bc I don't have a birth certificate. They told me to call HLS, and immigration. After a series of questions, HLS, and immigration told me that I was being discriminated against. And I should go to another DVM to get it renewed. I freaking live in Texas, and have never treated anyone like they treated me at the DVM. And the supervisor argued with me about how I have to have a birth certificate. I just politely told her that she probably needs to do a little research, and educate herself on closed adoption protocols from other countries, and from the 60s. They told me I was an illegal immigrant.
So, 17 years after 9-11 the fed's are NOW concerned about protecting us 😂

This guy took too much time to deliver my id but the quality was 9/10. I was at the bank yesterday, my transactions were good and the card scans.
Fortunately, the passport book and passport card can be used instead of a Real ID. My current drivers license was issued in November 2015. State of Texas began issuing Real ID licenses in October 2016, so I basically got screwed by 11 months. They want me to pay again for the license. Double payment for the same damn thing, simply because of their arbitrary decision on when they started issuing the Real ID license. I would rather pay $30 for passport card from the Federal State Department and be good for the next 10 years, including October 2020 to November 2021 when my current "obsolete" drivers license will no longer be good for airports with Federal TSA security.
(Just turned 19) So if i were to get a regular drivers license. Throw away the idea of a federal picture being taken of me using artificial intelligence facial recognition software, i can prevent that. And simply buy a registration specificly for circumventing commifornia' communist dealings?

So I've been hurling curses pretty much ever since but your point was the first thing I thought of. So I get the notification that I am to serve on a jury but I don't have that "Real ID". Are they going to let me in the building? And then "assuming" that they would, of course, because, "oh, well that's different" and "well, we didn't mean it to apply for that," etc., I'm gonna be the crotchety old bastard who simply turns around and walks out because "according to the law, I ain't allowed in this building."

I got my drivers license renewal notice. It told me that "to renew" (why is that in quotes?) I had to complete an online application. That I had to renew at a DMV office, get an appt in advance, and once there I had to take a 'knowledge test and a vision test.' These are not mentioned in the video. Below it said "If knowledge test is indicated be sure to study. Be sure to allow enough time for testing. Bring your glasses! But, is it true I really only need my passport? I don't want to do those other things.

I went to renew my bike permit and they said I need a document with my address on it. I asked if I could use my REAL ID. The said no So I have a real ID that is not excepted by the DMV but I can get into a federal court house, you know the building I pay taxes on.

You are mistaken if you believe or have been told that this will reveal more information about you than they already have. CA has gotten it all worked out and it was a process as smooth as could be. Actually, it seems to now have cleaned up and sped up the Drivers License renewal process. My birth cert (or the paperwork showing that you are a naturalized citizen) and a receipt for paying the utility bill for my residence. If you don't drive , your state ID renewal ca be renewed the same way, usually also at the DMV!
This type of ID is the only ID we will need to keep the vote honest!

As my schedule didn’t permit me to visit the DMV during the work week, I chose this location as they are one of the few office locations that they have open on Saturdays.

1. Is the thumbprint the thing that is new? We've all used our DL card to show proof of ID at the TSA gate at airport, so what makes the "Real ID" star new?
2. Why the hell would the Federal Government depend of state government branches (The DMV) to mandate and regulate a background check on you with your DL? Why not just make passports required at airports?

I got my driver's license and ID from *famustoolz* it contains all security features and pass all scannable..
The DMV had all of the information required for a REAL ID all along. When I applied here in California for the REAL ID I showed them my Pennsylvania birth certificate that by Pennsylvania rules only has my name, date of birth, county of birth and sex and no other information. So to get a REAL ID in California I had to contact Pennsylvania and have them put my mom and dad's name on a certified copy of my birth certificate. That sealed the deal. No other information was required. Of course, the DMV already had my date of birth, my address (where they mailed my drivers license for the past 30 some years) and my social security number. So by showing them my birth certificate with my mom and dad's name told them nothing because my parents are dead and what difference does that make anyway? So I don't get how this is anymore a REAL ID than my old drivers license. I think this is to make it so people have a harder time voting. Without the REAL ID you can't vote. Along with gerrymandering, limiting voter hours, cutting local voting places and putting them where there is limited public transportation is a way for politicians to chose their voters rather than the voters choosing their politicians. The new American way.

I have a current passport. Is it worth the hassle to order a 29 year old marriage certificate and then a divorce decree? Plus my mortgage and utility bill is in my previous name. My con with Real ID is that the process is lengthy. I signed up for Real ID in November 2019. I was supposed to get an updated card by Thanksgiving 2019, but it didnt go through. I tried again in February 2020, but I never got it. Eventually, I would get a new Real ID card in February 2021.
The fed wants the high resolution pic of you, usable for facial recognition, stored in a database. It does not help recognizability on your DL any better than the current low resolution pic already there, because of how small it is on your license.
tidbit: That's the Fell Street DMV in San Francisco. I drive by it all the time.

Aluminum foil is suppose to make it hard to track you
Don't stick foil in the lining of your coat. It will make the walk thru detector go haywire.
