I live in the Philippines, just bought a dragon fruit for $1.25 a pound. I hear that the hotter the season, the sweeter the fruit. For those saying that your money is wasted and they are tasteless, I recommend just tasting these fruits the next time you go on vacation at a hot, tropical country!
(Blueberries here on the other hand, go for around $25 a pound huhu)

Yeah but...you have an unemployment/underemployment rate of almost 30%. Extreme poverty, ostensibly free education yet 1 out of 3 girls never get past a 6th grade education because there are hidden costs and so poor families send the boys. I visited a major Metropolitan area and on the way to the market we stepped over many ... far too many homeless children in cruel conditions that made me truly mad. I spent a lot of time in Colombia (born there) and it reminded me a lot of certain parts of it. A few people with lots of wealth and a few more business class / professional class, and scores of poor who have no real prospects. Sounds like you're one of the lucky ones and sorry for any offense, I just can't get the image of those kids outta my head. It's not just the Philippines, it's most places...sad.

Living in japan just bought some for $1.50 USD because the non local fruits are very expensive so I’ve decided to switch to local fruits. I’m going to let it ripen hopefully it’s good. Mangoes are $6 each, avocados are usually $2 and up, watermelon usually runs about $20 in japan and $30 in korea. There is a good selection of honey dew melon here.

I only paid for dragon fruit once...it was $1.50 and a really good size. Large mango size. I’ve always thought that they are fairly bland but very refreshing. Since they’re full of antioxidants, I still eat them but I like a bit of lemon juice squeezed over it.
