    Removing the muffler to gain access to the one hidden bolt is SOO much easier than removing the tank.

    Hi Jim, Always appreciate the time people take to post this information but constructive comments. 1) Remove the muffler (2 bolts) and split the manifold from the cylinder instead of wrestling with the tight fit of the carburetor mounting bolts. 2nd benefit of this method is you don't have to bend the throttle linkage - it comes off easily, 2) I was hoping by your title that you showed how to remove the primer. I rebuilt the carb with a kit (float seal, float needle, bowl washer, etc) but didn't touch the primer and it is not pumping fluid. Take care, thanks for the effort - off to find a primer video

    Your are very thorough. If you want to remove the carb, it is a lot quicker to get the carb off the engine.
    1. exhaust is 2 bolts, and intake manifold is 2 bolts. 2. TAKE PHOTOS OF YOUR LINKAGE LOCATIONS.
    Most of the time the jet that hold the bowl on is clogged. All you have to do is pinch off the gas line and remove the jet. If there is fuel in the bowl then you have a partial blockage.
    I do like how thorough you describe everything. I NEVER KNEW HOW EASY IT IS TO TAKE THE TANK OFF.
    Every other video shows people turning mower on the side to drain the gas. You should get the Presidential Medal of Freedom or a Nobel Prize for sharing that. There maybe even be Knighthood or a Sainthood in it for you.

    Wow Jim you put a lot of effort into these videos. Thanks! One thing I notice when I use carb cleaner ....if it gets onto the neoprene seat....it immediately swells the seat and correct float level is impossible to attain once that has happened. Replacement of the seat is then required. In your video it looked like the float level was off quite a bit. The float should be pretty much level with the carb body when the assembly is turned upside down.

    I found the no compression problem. The emulsion tube in the carb has come off and lodged under the exhaust valve. The carb you show in the video is the same mine, but mine has no identification on it. I bought it in Thailand about twentyfive years ago. Can you tell me what your one is incase I need parts? Now I'm being a cheeky bugger. Can you show the set up of the emulsion tube? I've found a brass tube and a small separate plastic tube which I assume fits on the brass tube and then somehow fits into the carb? Thanks for your help on this.

      The engine I worked on in this video was not mine so I will be unable to look up a part number for you. The engine division of Tecumseh in the US is no longer in business and the internet has plenty of copies of this carb. I am going to guess you are an Aussie and Amazon in Australia has replacement carbs for around $30. The plastic emulsion tube fits in a hole on the upper left of the carb on the air filter side. I wish you the best on your repair.

    Thanks for the video ,Jim. My mower which is about 25 years old has been standing for about three years. It wouldn't start. I followed your procedure and cleaned all the hardened residue from the evaporated petrol in the carb. It fired up first time, ran for about thirty seconds, coughed and backfired. Now it just backfires. It seems like no compression. Any ideas?

    • @bbbjim1fixedit
      @bbbjim1fixedit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may have an exhaust valve sticking open, so you may wish to remove the spark plug and squirt some automatic transmission fluid on the valves or if you have available Sea Foam Deep Creep. Doing this may break down what is causing the valve to hang up. The oil will cause a good deal of smoke and may even fowl your spark plug yet it is effective many times and you wont need to remove the head. I made another video on doing this to a snow blower engine you may want to look at. I wish you the best on your repair.

    • @bbbjim1fixedit
      @bbbjim1fixedit  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The engine in this video is a 4 stroke, and if yours is a 2 stroke you may have the rings stuck in the piston, giving you very little compression.

    I have a toro recycler, 6.5hp GTS. I believe it is a techumsa engine, but no label anywhere to confirm. But I cannot get it to start no matter how many pulls I try. I have replaced the entire carburetor assembly (which includes the fuel jet bolt and new bowl), new spark plug, new air filter, and using fresh gas. I have used a spark plug tester to make sure I have spark, and I do have spark. I have ordered a new ignition coil, but not sure if that’s gonna be the fix since I am getting spark. Any thoughts on what I can do next?

    • @bbbjim1fixedit
      @bbbjim1fixedit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since you have spark it is unlikely you have a coil issue. I would try starting fluid as in another video here: th-cam.com/video/KhEDN1ijH5A/w-d-xo.html
      If you still are unable to get it started I would look closer at compression, you need around 60 psi minimum to get it to run, another video here: th-cam.com/video/5_6Z40481Pc/w-d-xo.html
      Lastly you may wish to ensure the flywheel key is not sheared, for your spark timing will be off and that also will keep it from starting. I wish you the best on your repair

    does a gasket make much of a difference? im starting to think it does...i have my moms lawnmower and i bought a new carburetor and new filter for it and it works worse than before no gas gets to the filter part. it cant have a problem with priming or being plugged upa s everything is new...it worked with the old stuff but i bought new anyway just because they were old and there were chips of soem sort in the carburetor . the old filter worked too but if i recall there was a gasket but it was pretty beat up . im starting to think maybe that was it is the gasket is missing but i cant think or find it hard to believe a piece of fabric can make all the difference in it starting or not...seomtimes its starts then it stalls shorty after now it wont even start with the new filter. i ordered a gasket just to check and see but if its not that idk what the heck it is i checked everything else.. teh fuel lines flow fuel and everything im new to this small engines hobby so im still leanring ..any help would be great.

      You may wish to take a closer look at your fuel line to see if it is deteriorating from the inside and plugging up your brass jet holding your carb bowl on. if you have old fuel with ethanol in it you may wish to get fresh fuel without any. I wish you the best on your repair
