When I just listen to Lea Desandre's performances, I sometimes start questioning the phrasing or the choice of emotion or I start comparing her performance to performances of other great mezzos (well, she is clearly a tier 1 mezzo along with Bartoli and Didonato). I’ve never heard this before and I think I know. It is so damn difficult and the singer NAILED IT!!! Everything about this performance was incredible. Not only were the runs sublime but the melodic phrases, and recitative parts were each in their own right wonderful and skillful. The orchestra also did a great job matching the color of the singer. I will be looking for more of Lea.
Lea is a great artist; what a gift to experience her wonderful voice, emotional depth and joy. This piece feels as fresh and vibrant as the day Handel wrote it, two prodigious talents in perfect harmony over the centuries.
She is truly one of the best in the business in this repertoire. Her technique is incredible. THIS is how coloratura should be sung. She's an amazing artist!
