Handel’s Theodora appears to be making something of a comeback with more and more recordings over the past few years. These two artists are magnificent and ideally suited to the work.
Not only the two singers, also the musicians are artists and play so wonderful!

Even Händel couldn't ask for more !
It's fine, subtle, intelligent, beautiful, without being mannered, without looking for any catchy effect. The art embodied in these incomparable voices and instrumentalists. Thank you for this sublime moment.
Glorious. Lea Desandre has great English enunciation on top of her colossal musical talent. Iestyn Davies is glorious as ever. What a wonder - the whole ensemble!!!
Upvote the lyrics so that more people can see it
Theodora: To thee, thou glorious son of worth, be life and safety giv'n.
Didymus: To thee, whose virtues suit thy birth, be every blessing giv'n.
Both: I hope again to meet on earth, but sure shall meet in Heav'n.
❤
I’ve admired Lea for a few years now and it’s such a joy to see her getting the attention she deserves! What a gorgeous lyrical voice - and not to ignore the heavenly Iestyn. An amazing collab
grazia e dolcezza italiana e raffinatezza francese. Bravissima Lea!

All the best to you!!!❤❤❤👋👋👋💐💐💐
What a masterpiece… Magnificent , with Tempo Giusto this music conveys the astral sound of the 9 octave . ❤❤❤
To thee, thou glorious son of worth,
Be life and safety giv'n.
To thee, whose virtues suit thy birth,
Be every blessing giv'n.
I hope again to meet on earth,
But sure shall meet in Heav'n
Lovely performance, everyone! It is very inspiring to see so many young people involved in the performance of Baroque music.
Divin ❤. Quels magnifiques artistes
It seems as if the music would just flow through Lea Desandre. Mesmerizing!
Divine!!! ❤ grateful to wake up to this gorgeous piece of music 🌺🌞
Extraordinary performance!
The world is in such a mess at the moment. Listening to Monteverdi is soothing to the soul. Remarkable and delicate interpretation of this Theodora with these 2 divine voices and the dazzling Arts Florissants.
Nádhera, děkuji . Jarmila Praha CZ
Omg that was beautiful.
I keep coming back to listen to it. Repeatedly
Magnifique
Magnificent. Absolutely glorious. This is a global rockstar early-music dream team at all layers from the vocals, the musicians, and (ironically) the modern sound editing.
The little smile at 4.19 says it all 😀👏💯 this is how I wanted it to sound and SHOULD sound 💯👌🏻 stunning breathtaking performance from 2 artists at the highest level
So breathtakingly beautiful!!
What a passion, so beautiful
Wow, sUper klasse! And the smile of Thomas D. at the end 🙂 !!!
Thank you, ensemble. Das ist wunderbar.
Extraordinarily beautiful music-making here--Jupiter keeps going from strength to strength, and this venture adds further luster to their discography.
Love both singers: beautiful interpretation
this work always reminds me Loraine Hunt
Un’esecuzione raffinatissima! Stupenda!
Los mejores...bravo👏👏👏
Simply beautiful!
La delicatesse... Merveilleux.
The best!!! Such beauty!!!
so nice, brought tears to my eyes
Merci.
Magnificent performance of a lovely aria in what is, in my opinion, Handel's finest oratorio. Worthy to set beside that of Dawn Upshaw and David Daniels.
Agreed it equals that legendary performance ... at least Lea and Iestyn don't have to contend with all the awkward positioning and 'business' of live opera! These two and Sabine Deveilhe, amongst other incredible young musicians, make me confident classical music currently is in the best of hands ...
@@melcadman I agree entirely. I have been a listener since the 1940s when all we had was an FM radio and a Victrola. Now, modern technology has enabled us to hear virtually anything we have time for, from TH-cam and other universal media! OH! What I have been missing!
precioso, muchas gracias
Lovely voices and music❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️

Of sublime beauty!
In good moment I clicked to this ecxelent video
Divine.
Maravillosos!!
Since their registers is practically identical, this is an interesting study in the other ways that the male and female voice are different.
Well it's like asoprano and a mezzo except it's male alto . It's a lower but overlapping register
Incredible ❤Thank you
wunderschön!
holy music
beautiful!
Magia, están todos magníficos.
Beautifully performed.
Beautiful!
Can't wait to hear them at the Wigmore in Dec.
This hits hard, love these 2(and the whole ensemble) Another great version to check out is the classic Maureen Forrester/Heather Harper recording..which is just hauntingly beautiful

I know something about at least some of Jupiter's outlandishly classy musicians, if it helps. Their leader is the outstanding lutenist Thomas Dunford; despite his English name, he's French, but born to an American father in France. Some of Lea's success must be attributable to his work, initially accompanying her but latterly forming and directing Jupiter, which provides the most ravishing, re-configured, accompaniment to singers and other soloists. The bassoonist is Peter Whelan, Irish, and now regularly conducting a wide range of groups - sensational bassoon player! The harpsichordist is Jean Rondeau, an outstanding solo player of baroque repertoire, especially Scarlatti. The bass player is Hugo Abraham, another outstanding player also interested in other genres including jazz. Not sure about the string players, although I recognise two from playing in the Ensemble Pygmalion, another magnificent baroque group. Can't tell you who are responsible for video and sound but the quality of these is in a wholy different league to most other vjdeos on TH-cam. It's impossible to imagine how this could be improved: a testament to the very greatest musicians, aligned to wizardry in filmimg it. Wow!
