Good demonstration. One common mistake beginners make is that they make the curved letters the same height as the square ones, meaning the S is the same height as the A. You need to create an optical illusion by making the curved letters slightly taller than the squared ones. Place a straight edge along the headline on a newspaper or poster and you can see what I mean.

The toughest letters to master bro…..no room for error because everyone recognizes this alphabet and it must be uniform with no flare. Great job!

Would have been good If we saw less of your back and more of your hand and brush. I couldn't really see how you were forming the shapes because you were in the way of the camera.

I was so happy to see a tutorial for lefties... I couldn’t see what you were doing tho... your camera shot your back just when I thought I was going to learn a stroke... hope to see more videos with the lettering view
The rite size brush not only makes the work faster it gives a smoother finish.

Thanks alot for the great info. I've been interested in learning the art since I was 11. I'm 77 now. Now I'm ready to get going ! I picked up pinstriping at 68. It's letting now.

When I watched this months ago I didn't pick up that you are a lefty like me... Now coming back after actually buying paints and brushes, this is really helpful!
Also, I noticed that you exhale into every stroke, and at first I thought it was strange, but I finally tried that approach and it actually helps to steady the stroke, sort of like aiming and firing a rifle or bow-and-arrow.
(edited) A few months in, and I think I'm giving up on my mahlstick for now, inspired by your use of the hand-rest technique.
Finally. A lefty that knows what they're talking about. The golden combination I've been searching for! Thank you, sir, for your time and knowledge.
Can you just teach what you know and stop wasting my time editorializing? Is it a "beginner's course" because YOU are a beginner? Let's see if I've got this right, it's like coloring in a coloring book, stay inside the lines. OK, what's next?

Number on tip for beginners ---PAINT CONSISTENCY ! That will affect how the paint pays out from the brush.

I used to use old perspex letters to draw around and practice filling them in.set out a few 's' or whatever letter out and see how accurate i could get them.also practice on glass easy to clean off.practice makes perfect these videos help a great deal.

Hi, Thank u sir for such a great tutorial....I am from india, my father used to be a sign board painter but now he had passed away 2 years ago, it's a shame I didn't learn anything from him, but now I am in a dire need to follow his profession as that is the only source of income we have....I have learnt pretty basic lettering....our main source of income is lettering on building (image below)
