      It’ll still work a little just won’t be quite as effective backwards

      Wires are designed to keep powerful airflow from sucking UP into evaporator, thus damaging the entire a/c $y$tem $$$$

    There is also a filter in the AC unit which surprised me. There was a few filters left in a closet from a house we purchased but they were too long to fit the filter you just changed and when was having AC problems I saw this was a possible solution and sure enough it made the AC return to normal. I was not sure there should be a filter where you just placed one as there was none when I opened that area and Home Depot did not carry that size. So good you made this video! Thanks!

      Some units only have the filter in the unit like it sounds like yours does. Others only have it at the wall behind the grate. some may also be built to have it in both places but it will reduce the airflow to have multiple filters in the line.
      Even with the died behind the filter it is still beneficial to have a proper filter installed to reduce hairs and dust/lint from clogging for A/C system.
      It would be a good idea to clean out as much of the dirt and debris as possible from the airbox behind the air filter. The cleaner the better.

      @@MostlyStuff is it normal to see dirt ground behind that AC filter in an apartment? I was thinking what's the use of using filter if down there looks dirt? Please I need your thoughts before i complain to the management!

    • @MostlyStuff
      @MostlyStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seekfactsnotfiction9056 it is fairly cocoon but should be addressed to keep critters out. We’ve seen a lot of worms, slugs and small critters come through the gravel or soil under ac units as well as where drain pipes go through the slab behind tubs.
      Thanks for watching!
      Best of luck.

    A good AC man told me the cheaper filters are actually better and give best flow for the AC system. Also another good idea is remove the grate and wash it down.

    • @MostlyStuff
      @MostlyStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cheaper filters certainly do let a lot more air through but they also let a lot more of the harmful dirt and dust into your AC system. I think it’s better to use high efficiency pleated filters which will allow more airflow than the equivalent non-pleated filter. If you have a very dusty home your filters will likely need to be changed out at least once a month.

    My air filter was spotty dirty. Never saw that before. What does this mean?

    • @MostlyStuff
      @MostlyStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s hard to say for certain but it could be mold growing on the filter. It can happen if there’s too much humidity in the air in the house.

    Why does my hallway return vent not have a filter behind it!? Wth is this madness??

    • @MostlyStuff
      @MostlyStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some air conditioner systems have the filter located closer together indoor unit and not in the wall.

    Can someone help i have one of these but it requires taking screws out. There is no easy way of opening it like yours i must remove all the screws... this makes me wonder if it should be opened? Although currently there is NO FILTER at all. Just the metal grate. Any ideas?

    • @MostlyStuff
      @MostlyStuff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your system may utilize an air filter located at the air handler rather than the wall return. Adding too many filters in the system can reduce the airflow of your system

    Can a dirty air filter cause my air unit not to blow as cold as it did before and have my home feeling warmer than usual?

    • @MostlyStuff
      @MostlyStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s possible if the filter is very dirty that it could reduce the airflow and allow your AC coils to freeze up which makes it less efficient at cooling home. Should probably have a licensed HVAC tech take a look at it. It could be a number of different things most of which I’m not qualified to speak on.

      @@rufuswilson5761 Air blowing weaker thru vents dead giveaway. Let your a/c thaw 4 hours a day in humid circumstances. Then check freon level if all else fails!
