    They're from Regina, Saskatchewan. The CPR mentioned in the song is the Canadian Pacific Railway.

    If you haven't already, check out a couple of their other songs like Banjo Odyssey, which is hilarious if you listen to the lyrics. Also the song, In hell I'll be in good company. Great band!

    Fun fact though I’m sure it’s been voiced, The Dead South are from Saskatchewan, just like colter wall! So happy you checked em! Gotta check banjo odyssey and the massacre of el kuroke!

    The Dead South are incredible! I've been pickin out so many of their songs lately. They understand the darkness feel that I love in bluegrass.

    The Dead South (oddly from Canada) are one of my favorite Bluegrass groups. Always an amazing style.

      They’re from our Prairies in Saskatchewan. Gods country Farmlands, etc. so it’s not as odd as you may think if you ever head up that way!

    Sorry Michael you mention American history but I just had to jump in here. It could be American history but they are from Saskatchewan same province (state) as Colter Wall and talk about the CPR which is the Canadian Pacific Railway and then the Yukon gold rush. Again Sorry to correct you. Great video you did here though.

    The Dead South are fantastic! I've seen them twice in person, the last time was at First Ave. in Minneapolis. They're a great show.

    I saw them two weeks ago live in Münster and Amsterdam. They are awesome live. Met them after the shows and they're incredibly nice people.

    The dead south is an amazing band! You should definitely check out more of their songs! A personal favorite of mine is Massacre of El Kuroke or Diamond Ring

    Just wanted to say - as a non-musician who came here following The Dead South breadcrumbs- you were so lucid and insightful that even with no musical training I was able to follow and appreciate exactly what you were saying and was Hella impressed. Subscribed and looking forward to diving into your content. ... now I have to buy a frigging guitar damnit!

    Saw these guys live. for those interested check out "into the Valley" or "gunslingers glory." Get you in the feels.

    Love it Michael (and the Billy Strings hat). I wasn’t familiar with this band but love them! Guitargate is like a grad school version of Spotify for discovering new music . Dead South remind me a lot of Robert Earl Keane or if Los Lobos & Mumford and sons had a baby…..😊

    Amazing how the right three notes can be so memorable - that E, G, A walk in has been in my head for two weeks since I first heard this - right here on Guitargate. Absolutely my favorite song I heard this year. Also Michael great to hear you reinforce melody. Heard the GOAT Tommy Emmanuel saying the same think in his interview with Rick Beato.

    You should really really check out "In Hell I be in good company" with the same band. A song with a story, couple of details in the lyrics, basic but great banjo playing and vocals harmonic thats one of a kind.
    I've been watching you and would love to see your reaction on that song.

    Hmmm, well thanks for that explanation. I have played music for probably 20 years now and never learned theory really at all.
    Taught myself drums, guitar and piano. Just really listening to music and trying to understand what it is they are doing I guess.
