I completely agree! I understand it's a 20 year old movie and they were made differently just in that time. Still the whole "suspension of disbelief" aspect of movies is sparingly used these days in comparison to the past lol! This movie wouldn't exist if it was based in the real world and people catch that, but instead of writing a more realistic plot point to explain it, they just make the kids go with the family friends who said nice things at the parents funeral, instead of them going to their closest relative, the uncle. 🤣

Legally speaking no, not if the parents named them as guardians at any point prior to their death. Legal Guardian gets custody over blood relatives even if it’s say a child’s older sibling i.e if Ruby had been 21. Then Rhett would still have been sent to the Glass’s if they had been named legal guardians.

Some big houses are all space and no rooms but they probably set Ruby up to make her look like a liar. Its the little things, cause notice how when they knew the social worker was coming they had everything ready and bride Rhett to lie about his routine. Making her look like she was just unhappy with her situation and wanted to get them in trouble. Which would give them a reason to send her off the the school for troubled girls.

i wonder why the custody of the children went to "friends" when there's a uncle. i mean, isn't that supposed to be automatic? unless the uncle cannot afford the needed well-being of the kids or not having the right background to foster kids. why of all people would be a couple with a clear money issue. isn't background supposed to be very important before handing the kids over to a somewhat stranger?

Ruby did bad things just because she wanted to, for kicks. And why couldn't she just give him a suckle for taking her in to that nice Malibu house? Hoarding her milk sacs is just selfish.
