I haven’t been watching TH-cam. Omg how much I missed ya. No matter what mood I’m in you make me feel happy and excited for the day. Just wanted to thank you so much. ❤❤❤❤❤
I would LOVE a cardigan version of Dustland and Fantastitch 💛 By the way, 'Don't go back in knitting, don't go back in life' is now my favourite rule to live by 💛
I luv Stephen - “don’t go back in knitting or in life”! Yesssss, we only go forward! You are the funnest, most adventurous creator. A true gentle soul who encourages us to open our minds and expand our skills.
Once in a while, take a breath and bask in the knowledge that you’ve inspired so many people with your designs. I’m always in awe of your incredible ability to visualize something and come up with new ways to incorporate stitches that just elevates them from mundane to jaw droppers. So therapeutic too. your creativity inspired others to lift themselves out of their troubles for a few hours and feel some solace while they knit or crochet. In that way, you’ve done wonders for mental health and it’s so much more enjoyable than self help books. I’ll never be able to knit the majority of your designs, but I’m having so much fun just attempting them.^^
I love watching your videos Stephen, as you have such a 'bubbly' personality.... Which also shows in your use of colours and patterns! I'd really love for you to tell how you got into knitting, it's clear that you cannot live without it! Please never change, we need your positive bubbliness in this world!
Yes please do a rain or shine sweater. I turn out to be a squirrel-oh new pattern. Oh another new pattern. Thank you so much. I love the pups. We could all listen to you every day. Cindy
I absolutely LOVE that you're taking your shawl designs and putting them into sweaters. I don't really wear shawls very often, but I've knit the last three MKALs of yours, just for the fun of it. I have my yarn ready for this year's MKAL, but sweaters, YES!!!
Yes yes yes! Please do a rain or shine sweater pattern! I love your sweaters - your shawls are so beautiful (but i always knit sweaters and not shawls). I agree with the wandering starseed. I also watch with a huge smile and laughter! And Brioche and Stitch are adorable…. I enjoy your colour and texture choices and your variations on different projects. Great podcast !
OMGosh, the mindset of a knitter or crocheter is EXACTLY as you said. I so there.. you almost get nervous wanting to finish something to start another waiting for you to dive into. LOL. I've never made socks, but, I want to so bad. a bit nervous about it. Those are beautiful!! How sweet... the beginning and ending with sweet dog or doggies. love, hugs, prayers.
Oh so love the “Foot Embellishment” comment. It is fun to wiggle the toes and see the beautiful yarn and the lovely sock. Another TH-camr commented once that when she finishes the first sock she immediately puts it on her foot so she will she the beauty and start the 2nd one.
I'm so excited for this year's MKAL! It will be my fourth one. I've done Starflake, Slipstravaganza, and Shawlography. Starflake was my favorite to knit, in fact I made a second one for my daughter. Slipstravaganza shawl is one of my favorite to wear, it's a nice large size and I really like the colors I used for it. Thanks for such great fun designs!😍
thank you Stephen, for the eye balling revelation. I feel, that wool and yarn is so forgiving, that perfection even happens,if one is making little imperfections, corrections, whatever, that is what i loooovvveee about knitting
I am so happy I found these videos....they make me so happy. I love how true to yourself you are Stephen and you go on your amazing tangents (for lack of better word). They just make me smile and that can be a rare thing these days. I just heard your sock speech and I feel the same way...all my socks came out bad or they got so many holes that I have never darned. But you are firing the sock knitter in my again...thank you :)
and music, video, yes, please! Iam going to knit your MKAL for the first time, but as you showed all those beautiful shawls, Iam probably going to start a collection and knit them all. 💋I wish I could visit your shop. Maybe I change my next years vacation plans. 😉
My first Westknits MKAL was last year's Shawlography. It was great fun to knit and it won a blue ribbon at the Washington State Fair! I'd never done brioche before and that section nearly did me in, but I persevered and finally got it - thanks to lifelines and your videos. I love that you encourage us to be the boss of our knitting which empowered me to modify a couple of the sections to suit my own quirks. I'm on the hunt for my Twists & Turns yarn.
coming back to this one just to hear this -"Don't go back in your knitting and don't go back in life... you can go forward, go forward!" This is going to be my mantra hereonforth !
So glad to hear you bless the "wing it" method for decreasing sleeves. All of us have differences in our arms and I personally think that eyeballing works best. Love all your videos and patterns. Now I'm feeling better about all the swatches that were previously referred to as WIPs!
I love you Stephen. You crack me up. You have us knitters nailed down! By the way…I love to make socks so welcome. Looking forward to working on one of your patterns… keep on keeping on. You’re a genius 🥸
I was so intimidated by socks for so long!!! I did the same thing though, I told myself to just stop avoiding and try them.. now I love making socks too 😊
I did the same earlier this year. In my culture knitting on the round is NOT a thing! Everything is knitted flat. And I learned the traditional way of knitting. Many ignorant people assume I'm a beginner because I'm not super comfortable knitting on the round, but it's just the reality of not being American. It can be very discouraging speaking to people online who think THEIR way is the ONLY way. Anyhow, I spent some time this year learning, whilst avoiding "online communities" like the plague. I had FAR more success that way.
This will be my third consecutive Westknits MKAL. I love them and they are works of art! Definitely an important knitting project in the knitting calendar.
I love these episodes!! They are so much fun and its great to see you wonderful personality shine though! It truely brightens up my day! Love seeing all the little sneak peaks! Would LOVE to dive into your stash!
My favorite MKAL was the Speckle & Pop and Texture Time. So fun and so challenging! My first MKAL was Speckle & Pop. And YES please make another music video, they're my favorites!
I absolutely loved slipstravaganza!! Loved starflake too but then you went and made the blanket pattern before I finished and I decided I wanted the blanket 🤣
Hey Stephen it is my first MKAL this year and I'm really excited and looking forward to it. A few days before I started the Painting Bricka Shawl and it is really fun. Greatings Nicole
I am so excited!! My first West Knits MKAL was Shawlography... Love it. I used all fall colors and if I do say so myself...stunning! I already have my yarn, needles, cable needle and project bag ready to go! For this one I am doing a cream lightly speckled and teal tonal for the main color with a pop of hot pink! So glad your tipping your toes in socks! Looking forward to your pattern releases as I am a cuff down, two circular (size 0) sock knitter.
Stash buster ! Right now, Knitting my first West shawl ..Boneyard with black speckled halloween colors, some rows held double with orange mohair & light orange yarn ; easy pattern really like how the orange mohair pops out , its turning out to be my favorite shawl . Enjoying this as my first West shawl and looking forward to another West knits pattern. One of your sweaters next on my list. Knitted toe up socks for 15 yrs , now changed to knitting the shadow wrap heel from Earthtonesgirl podcast. Like your sock pattern 👍
I just love watching your videos, you’re always so full of joy for your art it’s infectious to say the least. I feel like reaching through the screen to hug you. 💞 Thank you.
Totally relate to foot embellishment, you made me laugh so much...for me it was knitting socks toe up, that cought me..i even turned some patterns around...i loooove myfoot embelishment and cosy socks now
Shawlography was my first MKAL, first ever shawl, and first west knits pattern. I’m totally hooked and made several other west knits shawls. I can’t wait for this year’s MKAL!
Thank you so much for such a fun video. You make knitting such fun, with laughter and great ideas. I feel as though I’m having a one to one chat and permission to have as many successful or failed projects as I like. Great therapy……🤓💕🧶
I'm so excited for Twists & Turns and for the first time I ordered one of your kits--Qing Fibres: Red Piglet. I've knit the following MKAL shawls: Slipstravaganza, Shawlography, Marled Magic, Starflake & Doodler------I love them all for different reasons. Right now I have three "current" projects on the needles. Two for Joji's KAL--The Lone Skein and Elton and Andrea Mowry's Alpenglow to wear at Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival! Love seeing Stich and Brioche!
Thanks for the chat! It was great to knit on a WIP while listening and agreeing with a lot of your thinking about WIPS, etc. Ah, knitters. A sweater with your sock (foot embellishment) pattern would be fun! This is my first MKAL with you and I am looking forward to casting on and seeing where you are going to take us!
Stephen! I love that you are getting into knitting socks! I prefer cuff down as well with the standard heel flap and gusset. But, my favourite graft for toes is the Finchley Method. Easier than Kitcnener, and no doggy ears in the corners. Not that there isn't everything to love about real doggy ears! I'm filling my time with all the other knits, patiently waiting for Ocober 6! (And for my Holst Magenta order to be shipped. 😊)
Yes shawls into sweaters sounds fun. I did buy my MKAL for this year. First time I'm going to try one of your MKAL s. I follow your advice now to not stress and slip in a stitch here or there or lose a stitch on purpose.
This is my first MKAL. I'm so excited!! My yarn is out for delivery as we speak!!! EEEKKKKK. I had a beautiful single skein that I wanted to use so I found some earthy fall shades to go with it. I hope my colors work well with the mystery pattern!!
Welcome to the addiction of sock knitting! Such a portable project…beautiful design! I always have a pair on the needles while also knitting other bigger projects. Can’t wait for my first shawl mkal!
Stephen, I just adore you 🥰 I need a bit of West Knits videos in my life every day! I would love to see a rain or shine sweater 😍 I really enjoyed last year’s shawlography, and I actually love the ‘shlankets’ to knit and cuddle up with. I’m excited for this year’s twists and turns!
The Pierre Pullover is the perfect sweater for me to make my husband! Thank you so much for designing and sharing with us. Your work is amazing. And I know I am going to have to get over my fear of knitting socks!😁
Great podcast Stephen!! Love your approach to knitting! It's helped me to not stress out when things don't go quite right! I no longer knit socks now - I knit "feet enhancers!" 😄😄
I've done Doodler, Speckle and Pop, Building Blocks, Texture Time and Shawlography. I've loved knitting them all, even if binding off the optional border for Texture Time took forever and languished for long periods. It was totally worth it though, as Texture Time is one of my favourite shawls to wear as it's so versatile. I think Shawlography is the most beautiful of the ones I've made. I have my yarn kit ordered and am looking forward to 6 October, although I will be doing two other MKALS at the same time!
I'm sure I've said it before but your work is one of the things that make me saddest about only being able to manage one stitch at a time ( I am a crocheter.... have tried to knit soooooooo many times) I wonder each time I see your work at all the magic you wring out of yarn, so much drape in so many directions. You have a wonderful engineering skill in your work, like Vionnet with the bias cut, a great feel for the yarn and where you would like it to go. Much admiration and an ongoing feeling of magic in your handling of colour and texture, you have truly taken on an ancient technique and are running with it every day. All best for your new season of work, am sure you are keeping many, many people delightfully occupied with your ideas and projects.
I love knitting socks and was so excited to see your pattern and VERY happy that it’s a top down heel flap. I have a subtle seaside pallet and a crazy rainbow one can’t wait to knit them
Hi Stephen…this will be my very first West Knits MKAL and I’m super excited!! Can’t wait to start!! I had put my original yarns on Ravelry but was told they might be too blendy so I finally found colors that I have enough of and think they have good contrast and will look nice!! Fingers crossed!! All your projects are amazing!! I currently have the Painted Honeycombs on hold but am loving it so far!!
This will be my 1st west knits and my 1st mystery. I am casting on a musselburgh today after I got to the post office for my new yarn from candy shop yarns. I'm still deciding on my mystery colors.
I Love All Your Patterns and your projects you have done,. Such beautiful colors,.So creative indeed,.. I need to order some of your yarn,. I'm not really a pro on knitting,.. I know a little about knitting,.. I can do socks,. And I'm knitting a blanket,.. But looking at all your shawls ,. it's so stunning,. And beautiful... I give you Thumbs Up!! Here in Louisiana really don't have good yarn,. Like skins,.. but I'm do what I have...lol🧶🧦🧣
Thanks for this entertaining after work program . waiting for the MKAL cast on while working on a Painted triangles with soft mominoki yarn :) this will be my first West Kal . but Ive done a few patterns over the last years .. always fun . Thanks for your great work

A Dustland Cardigan is what I want, yes please do it. Big thanks in advance.
Love your sleeve decrease advice. It’s what I always tell myself, both in knitting and in life: Stop looking back, you aren’t going that way.
Once in a while, take a breath and bask in the knowledge that you’ve inspired so many people with your designs. You're the knitting therapist Stephen! I love your take on decreases and knitting in general. It's so fun and inspiring.
Slipstravaganza is my fave...knitted 4.
Yes please a music video! “It’s Brioche Stitch” and “Baby You’re a Knitter” were incredible 😍💖
I love watching your videos Stephen, as you have such a 'bubbly' personality.... Which also shows in your use of colours and patterns!

Rain or Shine sweater.....YES PLEASE!! Beautiful socks and sweaters.
Hi Stephen. Thanks for the podcast. Yes please - more cardigans - and definitely a baggy cardigan. Yay! 🧶
I just ❤️ the Garter Marler Sweater! The buttons make the sweater look like such a playful knit! 🥰
I absolutely LOVE that you're taking your shawl designs and putting them into sweaters. I don't really wear shawls very often, but I've knit the last three MKALs of yours, just for the fun of it. I have my yarn ready for this year's MKAL, but sweaters, YES!!!

“Maturing in stash” is the technical phrase I use 🙂. More episodes please, they are great to watch.
OMGosh, the mindset of a knitter or crocheter is EXACTLY as you said. I so there.. you almost get nervous wanting to finish something to start another waiting for you to dive into. LOL. Definitely a rain or shine sweater!!! Would love the slip stitch yoke.
That Stitch Baby is so precious
This year I do my first MKAL.
I‘m a slow knitter and I hope to finish it this year. A nice time I wish all of you!
All the best, go at your own pace and don't listen to pressure from others
😊🙋♀️
Looking forward to my first MKAL with you! Love the idea that WIP’s can just be called swatches!
I love these episodes!! They are so much fun and its great to see you wonderful personality shine though! It truely brightens up my day! Love seeing all the little sneak peaks! Would LOVE to dive into your stash!

“You little shawl freak..” That made me laugh and I really needed to laugh today. Thank you Stephen.

The Rockefeller shawl would make an amazing sweater 😍 Everything you do is wonderful
Cheers for validating relaxed knitting!
I just love watching your videos, you’re always so full of joy for your art it’s infectious to say the least. I feel like reaching through the screen to hug you. 💞 Thank you.
I love your light attitude about knitting. It should be fun!!!
Thanks so much! Happy knitting ✨
Yes, Rain or shine sweater would be terrific ❤️❤️❤️ Love the graphics on it. Foot art ( no not foot 💨 haha)
OH how I could relate!! As soon as I cast on a project, I’m already thinking ahead to the next one. Well. The next several!
Sitting on the couch in a nest of colourful string and knits. This is where we all are mentally as yarn crafters and it is amazing.
Totally relate to foot embellishment, you made me laugh so much...for me it was knitting socks toe up, that cought me..i even turned some patterns around...i loooove myfoot embelishment and cosy socks now
This will be first MKAL. Looking forward to knitting outside my comfort zone a bit. Intrigued. I knit Trianglegram 2 years ago and love it.
We all need a comfy rain or shine sweater in dk weight
Shawlography was my first one, and actually my first pattern of yours. I loved every minute of it!
Really so delightful to be here with you! My second mkal !!
My first MKAL and I am so exciting and looking forward to CO day 🥰. Love your work & your videos 🥰
Rain and shine wearable...oh yeah!!!!
Foot embellishment……LOVE that!
Yes shawls into sweaters sounds fun. I did buy my MKAL for this year. First time I'm going to try one of your MKAL s. I follow your advice now to not stress and slip in a stitch here or there or lose a stitch on purpose.
Love you and your work. I would love to see you do more sweaters with different yarns besides hand dyed. Happy knitting!
You are a delight to watch… thank you😊
I've done Doodler, Speckle and Pop, Building Blocks, Texture Time and Shawlography.
Yes, yes, yes to Dustland cardigan!
I, too, cast on all the things to manifest the Great Eclipse!! 😎 🥳🥰
Foot Embellishments 😂😂😂. I love it!
I love knitting socks and was so excited to see your pattern and VERY happy that it’s a top down heel flap.
I have a subtle seaside pallet and a crazy rainbow one can’t wait to knit them
You made me so happy with your decrease- when- you-see- it! I do the same and it looks great. Look forward to my first MKAL this year :)
