My first shawl. So excited!! went out of my usual colours and bought the antique coral set.
I'm so excited. Honestly the westknits mkal helps me be excited about fall (sometimes that's a challenge for me with seasonal depression). I'm hand spinning my yarn this year from grey, purple and mermaid blue stash fiber in merino, shetland, silk blend. I'm plying tests for gauge swatches this week and hoping it all works out! Thanks for putting this together again!

I’m joining the fun! I immediately thought I should use the royal blue and white with a silver contrast and then realized I was just getting inspired by the shawl around Stephen’s neck!
Looking so much forward to this. My mood is fragile comes fall and winter so I’m trying to keep up the mood by doing things I love….. and one of my “uppers” is knitting your mystery shawl every October ❤️❤️❤️so thank you for being a spirit lifter❤this year even more needed as my husband is a soldier and going away with NATO forces for 6 months😢😅so thank you for cheering me up🫶kisses from Denmark 🇩🇰

This is my 10th WestKnits shawl (not all were MKAL) and I’m STILL EXCITED!! All his shawls are so unique and fun and even though I’m experienced I learn something new. And his shawls are very wearable. I always get compliments.
I’m so excited!! Just found out about this today at my local yarn shop. I’m a fairly new knitter. I’ve been knitting for about a year. So this may be challenging, but I’m looking forward to it. I picked out some FUN, beautiful yarn today. 🧶

I love cables, even I don't like knitting them so much. 😁 And short rows are so easy! I do them all the time, when knitting the toes and the heels of my socks. So I'm really excited!

A toothpick is the best cable needle you can have. It is light, double pointed, and does not slip .
I Tried That, It Kept Pulling My Yarn.
Maybe I Should've Tried Sanding It Smooth With A Nail File Or Sandpaper. 🤷🏼♀️
I learned how to do cables without a cable needle. Game changer! Stephen has a video tutorial on the technique.

Hi. I chose a Qing fibre kit on your shop which I adored, with muted, subtle colors. Now that I have seen the first clue I realize there is no contrast at all between MC and CC, but if you created that kit I presume it is possible to realize the shawl without loosing to many graphic details... or at least I hope so...
It is always hard to choose colors. I just want to experiment and make many versions. When you make the color choices for sale on your webs site (S&P), did you have test knitters try those different yarns and colors, or are you just swatching for color combinations? I'd be interested to know your process for this. Very excited. This will be my third MKAL with you!

I wish I was confident to order from your website, but I have no idea how customs and duties work that I figure the yarn will get stuck somewhere that I cannot retrieve. My LYSs are meh at best with choices, but I used them with Shawlography and they worked ok. I wasn't going to participate, but the videos have made me excited to do so again.
I have ordered yarn or books from Stephen and Penelope and they always arrive quickly and I am in Western Canada. My kit that I ordered Saturday right at launch time is scheduled to arrive Thursday or Friday! Go for it!

If there is Brioche, can we do one-color brioche as an alternative? I haven't had success with 2-color.
I don't see why not, although you would have to allow for using more of that colour yarn. Stephen also mentioned that wherever he adds brioche he is also giving a non-brioche option. Like last year's Shawlography had brioche with an option to do a striped lacey eyelet pattern instead.
Is this beginner friendly??
what I'd like to ask you is how do you untangle those Yarns that you have that are twisted like in the package of your Twist and Turn patterns the yarn I have tried to untangle them and I do pretty well but they still get all matted up can is there any way I can find out how to do it the proper way
Try watching a video about using a yarn swift. I love mine and cost less than 30 USD at Amazon. 👍

Can we still do a MKAL from past years?
Yes you can knit any of the previous mystery shawls. The new design is revealed one week at a time in October, so each section is a surprise. The final Twists & Turns design is revealed at the end of October. We cast on October 6 to knit the beginning of the Twists & Turns shawl. :) It's so much fun!
How do I go about having the explanations that go with the previous shawls?
I was so quick today to get the colour kits I wanted, as usually sold out by the time I get to look, it helped being a Saturday. LITLG Weathered Autumn and Undercover Otter Rosemary Woods. Now to decide which to start first !
For the second year in a row, my LITLG choice was sold out from under me before my eyes! So I snagged the Undercover Otter in Rosemary Woods.
I’m new to this. Bought a kit in colors I liked, but most of the colors were sold out. (It is Sep 6, so understandable). Will I be able to buy the other color way kits later on or are they sold out forever?
@@tagalonggal I believe once they're gone that's it. However, in the past on one of Ambah O' Brien's mkal's, I managed to find an almost exact match of colours here in UK as the set i wanted couldn't be posted from Australia at the time. Search your favourite yarn suppliers and see what you can come up with, have fun !

Tips and helpful lessons are here on TH-cam. Subscribe to Stephen and go through his videos. Some patterns are in some of his books and all are on Ravelry for download. Except this one of course as we will be getting it pieces at a time till the end of October.
Ok now . I would like to know if I purchase the Rockefeller shawl , which was in a previous MKAL ( there must be more than 1 clue for this shawl ) I did look on you tube but can’t find them . Please help , thank you so much🤗

So I ordered my kit (Below Citadel) and I’ll be in Amsterdam next weekend to start a weeklong vacation in Europe, so I’ll get to visit your store to pick up my kit!! Very excited- my first MKAL!
Those are Stephen colour choice colours if ever I had to guess some. How cool is it that you get to go there! I don't live near any yarn shops so don't get to feel yarns (until I buy them and they arrive) let alone see the yarns all up close and personal.
