I was living in Bournemouth in 74 that takes me back, the cliffs were still in its natural state before they levelled them off to stop landslides

I left school in 1974. Was my hometown until 1991 when l moved to Australia. Hope to return for a visit soon. We used call the holiday makers 'Grockles'.

Ah, yes, Bournemouth, where I was brought up in the 70s and 80s. The crazy golf, rowing boats on the beach, the skating rink...

Yearly family holidays back in the 70s, my Uncle had holiday flatlets there, I think they were on Suffolk Road, but my memory fails me. Sadly he was killed young in a car accident and we hardly visited after that. Lovely memories, I was looking out for little me in that clip! 😊

Bournemouth was originally in Hampshire, then became part of Dorset. Which is why the big roundabout in Westbourne is called County Gates.

Bournemouth became part of the county of Dorset on 1st April 1974 it was previously part of the county of Hampshire until then, along with the lovely town of Christchurch where I grew up. Then in April 1997 it became a unitary authority independent of Dorset but remains part of Dorset for ceremonial purposes a part of the Lieutenancy. I don't really know thew details of this though.Bournemouth and christchurch populations have swelled since then and Christchurch is no longer the sleepy backwater it once was.
