    Fun Fact : In MGSV, you have to do the Quiet mission twice to see the actual ending, and the supply drop trick only works the first time. The second time around the difficulty is increased, so if you call a supply drop on Quiet’s location, she just dodges it. It shows that the entire supply drop trick isn’t exactly a design flaw, but something the devs intended to keep in the game.

    • @p.v.7269

      You can still use the drop box trick on her during the second fight. You have to call in a drop box and then get her to shoot at you a few seconds before the box hits. She'll get smacked by the box while trying to reload after shooting at you

    • @peazeralus
      @peazeralus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I'm assuming you're talking about a Thunderjaw or whatever their names are, the ones guarding tech in underground labs? If so, there's not a difficulty jump higher in that game than the first one you face. It was like they dropped a speedy, spammy FromSoft boss your lap.

    • @Verrill82
      @Verrill82 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I found the first ThunderJaw you had to fight in the canyon quite an easy but lengthy fight thanks to the stone outcrop you can keep ducking behind. It was a case of just circling back and forth and picking at it and providing you stayed sheltered behind the outcrop, you didn't take too much damage.
      Now the added mechs in Frozen Wilds are another level, even with the ancient armour I struggled on the trials!

    It's always amusing to find cheap tricks for hard bosses, like using the fishing rod against Ganondorf in 'Twilight Princess'.
    One of my favorite cheeses was the third boss in 'Deus Ex: Human Revolution'. He's supposed to be your mirror match, as augmented and as powerful as you in every way (and if you got the firmware update, the first half of the fight you're fighting with your own augments having been disabled). As a boss, he is also immune to the game's quick takedown attacks. However, as you're maneuvering around the room there are a number of short walls that create hallways and obstacles within the stage that the boss can vault over. During this animation, however, he suddenly becomes very vulnerable to a number of alternative tactics... including the aforementioned quick takedowns. It was the most hilarious thing to me to carefully position myself, watch this guy vault over a wall to get to me... and seeing a short animation of Jenson just decking him across the face and knocking him out cold, immediately ending the fight.
    I don't know if they ever patched that out or not, but boy was it satisfying.

    • @MinorZero
      @MinorZero 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Afaik it is patched out in the director's cut, but should still work in the original where I used it myself a few times. At least the boss fights are somewhat better in the director's cut in return, so cheeses aren't as needed. Still, if you don't want to deal with bosses just make sure you have an upgraded Typhoon and be done with it :)

    • @blazeww4275

      Why patch it when it's not exactly unrealistic...

    • @blazeww4275
      @blazeww4275 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kinda like why patch the hook in dying light 2 as the guy is a super human jerking himself across the map using stamina as he does anyway even after the patch that keeps us from climbing with the hook as he can pull himself into the air with ease and again move horizontally with no issues. He is also stronger than the alphas in his monster form. Yet slower and weaker than normal people around him...

      @johnwrath3612 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. It doesn’t work on most bosses, but the using sleep grease on an arcane scaling weapon makes certain bosses super trivial. I don’t consider that a cheese, you’re using a mechanic Fromsoft intentionally put in the game in the way it was intended to be used.

    In GTA 3, there's a mission where Donald Love asks you to escort a securicar. Loads and loads of enemies in vehicles try to take that car down. And it's your mission to protect that car so it can get to the destination "safely".
    The cheese is to let the securicar go on it's own. The game only recognizes the securicar in the distance. So, the enemies are not rendered, so, it protects itself if you don't follow it.

Probably one of my favourites is cheesing Voracidous the Invincible, where you can grenade jump on the rocks surrounding the arena, fall into a hole, and somehow get "under the map" through a glitch that's left unpatched. This way, you can just shoot the boss from underneath without it hurting you XD

    In Super Mario Brothers 3, during the final fight with Bowser, one can just use the Tanuki Suit to turn into a statue when he jumps then stay crouched after changing back. Bowser can't hurt Mario anymore with his jump attacks so Mario can just stay huddled in one spot while the floor is gradually chipped away, moving only when the last floor bricks crumble away, letting the Koopa King drop himself into the abyss without doing a thing to him.

Whether you cheese your way through, or beat the boss organically… you’re still having fun either way and that’s why games are a thing in the first place. Whatever you gotta do to feel accomplished… do it!

    In Days Gone there’s a mission where you test out napalm molotovs on a horde boss which is the 2nd biggest horde I think. You can get into a house and when you do the entrance gets blocked so the horde can’t come in. Then you just go up to the balcony where they still can’t get you and then you just mow then down

    Entertaining and informative. I actually just jump attacked shadow link in LoZ2 and it seemed to work well. Just gotta time hitting his exposed head since his body was blocked by the shield. It may be that he would try to see you jumping at him as an opening to and let his guard down. Either way, he wasn't that much of a challenge to me back in the day. I used to be able to 1 life the original Castlevania also.

    The biggest cheese I think simply based on the strength of the boss and the amount the cheese trivializes it is Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen, using the strider class equip the skill fivefold flurry and some blast arrows and shoot til your hearts content. He normally one hit kills you and if you happen to do enough damage to him he’ll run away, but with this he cannot run away and a volley of arrows just juggles him for ever

    The old Crusader games had a boss which was an absolute nightmare to fight fairly. I believe it was Chairman Draygan, or "RoboDraygan", in No Regret - I only remember being on the receiving end of lots of rocket volleys, though the videos I've seen suggest a much lower rate of fire. Maybe I had a DOSBox config issue, was playing on a different difficulty, or just using a different version.
    In any case, you could place a Detpac (a remotely detonated bomb) in the doorway before engaging. This would prevent the game from closing the door behind you during the lead-up cutscene, letting you leave the confined room you're supposed to fight in (or cross to access a robot to fight for you). The boss was too big to fit through the doorway but he'd come over to try. To keep things fair most enemies near to or off the edge of the screen weren't allowed to shoot you, so you just had to back far enough away and you were completely safe to pick him off at your leisure - including setting off the Detpac just to add a little injury to the insult.

    The best cheese in a boss fight I found was in borderlands 2 when you fight the bunker. Your supposed to go up on this platform with lasers, explosives, and a bunch of spawning enemies; instead all you need to do is stick down by the elevator you're supposed to enter after beating him and you can take pot shots at the boss all day with almost no chance of him or anyone else touching you.

    • @williamrhea-banker3005
      @williamrhea-banker3005 ปีที่แล้ว

      There were lots of moments like these in the Borderland series. Like the Boom and Bewm fight from 2. You can just stand on the hill before going into the boss fighting area and take pot shots at them until they die. I don't remember if you need a second player to trigger the boss fight, but even if so, just have them hide and start taking shots.

    Actually, there's one tactic that works really well on both Shadow Link and the various armored knights in the game. Crouch jumping and stabbing in midair. Basically, you end up canceling the down thrust with a forward stab around waist level. As far as I can tell, this slips their guard by effectively counting as a high and a low attack at the same time. It's a pretty cheesy tactic for what are otherwise some of the hardest enemies in the game.

    Final Fantasy 8. Have Selphie in your party, keep her at low health perpetually and save her limit break. When it's time to fight a boss, use her limit break and with her at low health, she has a high probability of rolling "The End" which instantly kills whatever you are fighting. I beat Omega Weapon the first time that I fought him with that cheese.

    Super Metroid: I don't remember the name of this boss, but he's about halfway through the game.
    The walls of the boss area have light receptacles that can be shot out.
    After doing that you have the boss pick you up with his grab move.
    While the boss has a hold of you, you shoot your grapple beam into the broken light receptacle.
    This will cause major damage via electrocution as long as you keep a hold of the receptacle.
    You must make sure you have enough health though.
    As this move not only damages the boss but you as well.
    Using this strategy you can beat the boss in mere seconds as opposed to minutes.

    I feel like From Software's idea was to keep really epic main story bosses but yeah also didn't want too many people to get completely stuck if they simply can't do it, perhaps they identified the most troublesome ones with focus testing.
    So to solve this they introduced some way to make the fights easier such as Margit/Margot's shackle, The mixed physik against the lord of blood and making the godskin duo easy to divide up to fight one at a time.
    However I think most people should consider ignoring the easy way out to get the proper fight, atleast the first few times to get a feel for if you can do it.
    Because the easier way feel like they intentionally take out the most challenging part of each boss fight which might greatly take away from the sense of accomplishment.
    My main point is to share the idea that just because you found the thing you don't necessarily have to use it immediately as they kinda ruin the challenge if you want that preserved.

      @KainYusanagi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      An additional thing: Watchdogs. The duo in the one Caelid catacombs is freakishly hard for the point you can find them at. Get a handful of Crystal Darts, and read the description. "Long ago, it is said that a golem crafter employed a similar crystal tool." Watchdogs are golems, throw a few at one and it goes berserk attacking anything nearby. Toss a few at both and they basically tear each other apart. recommend hitting the sword one first because staff one is a bastard that deserves to die first. Fuck the invisible AoE extension on its ground pound. >_>

      From has always had fights that reward preparation and experimentation, and I feel like they leaned into that concept with Elden Ring -- in a good way. The game is still hard but it gives you so many options for how to approach each fight that it feels approachable. Demon's Souls was probably the last time before this that it really almost seemed necessary to keep multiple weapon/damage types handy for different situations.
      My feeling is that a first playthrough should be about trying everything and seeing what works, though. Putting extra limits on yourself is for NG+ or later runs.

    I didn't do that trick with Malak, but I was having a hard time in KOTOR 2 fighting these two Twi'lek assassins because I was playing a character I pretty much neglected. I did the trick with him. I ran to a small alcove, dropped a couple of mines, and let them come to me. The final boss in that game was hard AF, though. I ran, healed, returned and wailed on her, rinse and repeat. So much for an epic final duel. Then when she attacked me with flying lightsabers, I managed to get the lightsabers separate in order to fight them one on one (because the AI can't see around pillars). I lost the last saber (it just disappeared) and went and wailed on the final boss since she was distracted with controlling the lightsabers.

    There's another one in Skyrim that I've used a few times. There's this guy in the dragonborn dlc, general Falx Carius, and I've had some legit difficulty with him in a straight-up brawl. Like, the closest I've found to a "fair" approach that might actually work is probably orc berserker rage, followed by beastform, followed by howl of brotherhood, followed by ragdolling his butt around his dungeon, any other way I've had him two-shot some very high-level heavy armored characters. However, apparently he's Helen Keller when it comes to spatial awareness. He's standing back-to the door you come in through, and I haven't had a character yet, including the one with zero experience in sneaking who couldn't sneak up on a corpse, who actually couldn't sneak up behind him and slit his throat in one shot. Boom, fight over, I'll be taking that pretty chaos enchantment to slap on my sword now.
