    I finally get a chance to review the new Cloudventure trail shoe from On Running. Many have requested that I review some of On's offerings, so let's dive right in! I was pleasantly surprised by this shoes comfort and durability. It does have some faults. I am curious on what you think of this trail kick? Lemme know in the comments below!

    Thanks for the review. I've been hoping you would talk about these shoes. My Cloudventures have been a reliable friend through many races, and they have yet to steer me wrong. I agree that their laces suck, and if they were provide something a little more robust the shoe would be perfect for me. In the end the pros greatly outweigh the cons for me, and with 150 miles on my first pair (and still going storng), I plan to get another once they're all used up.

    My Cloudventures are the most comfortable, durable trail shoes I've ever had. Absolutely love them. The only thing I don't appreciate is the crazy skinny laces...but everything else is perfect for me. I'm mainly running on the dry, dusty, sometimes rocky trails of Central Oregon.

    I'm actually testing the same model to review later and I haven't had ONE single rock stuck on the bottom of the shoe, yet I've taken them on a lot of gravel and loose rock terrain, going down fast. I do agree on the fact the shoe has no give in the midfoot area but I've managed to increase comfort majorly by simply changing the lacing. And speaking of that, yes the laces are f. thin but the main problem for me seems to be the length: I can barely do a double knot! Apart from that, they're wonderful trail shoes, Ethan. I've taken them on deep snow, mud, gravel... wonderful grip and still a very decent ground feel.

      UPDATE: the actual problem I had running is this shoe is the heel padding starting to come off after 100km. I mean, durable? Yeah, not there though. I must admit though that the company was very honest and sent me a spare pair.

  • @Wilangjam
    @Wilangjam 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I’ve just bought my 3rd pair of these. I run 100-130km/week, mostly on sandy or rocky trails. On the plus side, I love the cushioning and they are the most comfortable trail shoes I have ever owned. On the down side, the thin mesh fabric in the upper has split in pairs 1 and 2 after just 350km. I wear Mizunos on roads and have never had this issue. I also pick up big stones between the lugs, and the laces are terrible, especially when my hands are cold.
    Really hope they resolve this issue in the next version as replacing them every few months ($240 in Australia) is getting expensive!

  • @jonmorisset7394
    @jonmorisset7394 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I wear On Cloudflow as my street shoe, coming from Brooks Pureflow. I really enjoy the road shoes, though the laces are super annoying and most people's biggest complaint about the shoe. I double knot them and if they get wet they are impossible to untie. Also unnecessarily long laces. I've not tried the trail version because of the wide groove and anticipating picking up rocks and sticks. Maybe pass on the trail version, but give the road version a whirl.

    Great review! I have an earlier version of the shoe (with better laces) and I love it. It's great for the types of trails I run in Virginia which are rooty, rocky, and muddy. I can't run in their road shoes, but the Cloudventure is my go-to for trails. I agree with the dislike that they do collect quite a bit of mud and debris. I have to kick stuff out of them mid-run and hose them down when I get home.

    I bought the Cloudventure waterproof trail shoe last year around this time. I found it a little heavy, but my biggest issue with it is the cheaper, thin feel of the heel counter. I found that this shoe rubs my heels funny, and doesn’t stay in one spot like all my other trail shoes. If they fix the upper materials around the heel, it would be a much more comfortable shoe.

    Yes, got bunch of junk under on rocky trail.

    Going to change the laces to Catapy (no tie laces) and try them again. Go on another run.

    I hear you brother... I got a pair of On when they first came out because I really liked them in the store... then I had to really run in them and despised the laces and " pods " for the very reasons you mentioned... being a the kind of person I am when one of those " pods " picked up a rock I spent the next few miles focused on the constant click of that rock hitting the pavement with every step until it finally fell out... and I won't even get in to the spaghetti strings they call laces, couldn't have said it better... they suck.

      I totally agree that the cloudflow I‘m using pick up rocks if I go off road with them so I only wear them for street running/racing. I have to say that I choose to run in them more than any other shoes I own and it‘s because they are the most comfortable and responsive running shoes I have tried so far. They are expensive, but compatible to many other high end models from ASICS and Nike etc.

    I'm no expert by any means, but one thing that MOST modern trail shoes seriously LACK is durability and support- they seem to simply take their light and cushiony running shoes and slap a rugged (looking) sole on it- now it's a 'trail runner'! NOT, they fall apart fast...I would expect a true trail runner to be a bit heavier and beefier, if you care at all about durability...if not, well just keep burning through the other 'trail runners' with no care about the cost...my 2 cents..

    Not fit for purpose.Clearly trails in Switzerland and dry, manicured and mud free. Whoever designed the shoe with 2 massive grooves like that must surely have limited offroad experience? Thanks for the review, nevertheless.
