    I love that this one feels a little more "day in the life, warts and all" than some of your videos. It's natural to edit out some of the boring or unflattering parts of sailing, but I enjoyed things like the conversation about which lines to cast off in what order, and even the drama over changing the fender placement during a freak squall. Can't wait to see what you do during the French Canals!

    Interesting. I have our fenders way sooner and we always tie the boat from the dock to the boat which means I can stand on the boat and get the lines. So do I make sense? We do it differently, very interesting. Good episode

    • @sailingrubyrose
      @sailingrubyrose 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, makes perfect sense!! Definitely one way of doing it, and a good way. But that means (unless I'm mistaken?) that after you tie up, you need to change your lines so the loop goes over the cleat on the dock and tie it off on the boat cleat. I'm just too lazy to go around changing my lines, and it also means when we're leaving we can put the lines on a slip easily. But everyone does these things differently! 😊

    • @Zarih67
      @Zarih67 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well it's easy. Remember, we're on lakes, canals and on the east coast. I prepare the fenders and the lines. I get off the boat, arrange the line ang give it to the captain. When he ties up, I get the the other line and get onboard. It's not uncommon, for hudlums, to untie the lines during the night, and if it's on the boat, it's harder. I don't want to wake up drifting or hitting other boats. The last line, we do together. I usually tell him how far it's left to the dock, talk to the people on the dock who's there to help. It's so interesting to see how others do it. A learning experience if nothing else. Our reason is, we think it's easier to leave. We feel we have better control. I know people remark on our fenders. I use plenty and it's always done long before it's time. I like to be prepared, since we never know what will happen when we get there. But that's me. Let people talk. They usually stop when they realize that Alice is made of steel. :)@@sailingrubyrose

    Very nice following you guys.
    Terysa, please pardon my asking, but I was noticing that while you narrate and/or otherwise chat w/us I've curiously noticed that you often pause while speaking (Nick does it too) ...and then you suddenly insert the word "yeah" or "yes" in your speech. What does that mean? Why do you often pause then go on saying "so yeah" or "but yeah" ?
    ... I can't understand why you say "so yeah" or "but yeah" because you don't seem to be replying to a yes or no question or such. So can you please help me understand what is meant when you do this?
    (BTW.. you are not alone in this habit.. I hear it often done from millennials, but I am totally baffled as to what it means because it doesn't seem to be in response to ANYthing)
    [ It does seems a bit like one saying or interjecting "so anyway"... which also has no apparent meaning to me... lol]
    So... if you know why you say it or can figure it out.... Could you please help to enlighten me... I'm a bit lost. Is it that I'm just too old and therefore a bit out of touch with some hidden underlying meaning?
