I used my Hunsaker rib hanger and the firedial a couple of weeks ago. I cut the ribs in half before hanging. I only cooked three racks with 6 hooks. I did not have to worry about them falling this way. I put the firedial where the water pan goes and had plenty of clearance. I figure I could easily cook 9 or more whole racks cut in half. This was my first time doing this and they were a little overcooked. I did not spritz on purpose, but now realize that was a mistake. They were still good though with a nice flavor. I was very pleased with the firedial; not having to clean the water pan and get rid of the grease was great. I am looking forward to hanging a turkey in a few weeks. I also have the Hunsaker WSM vortex to play with and of course my Cajun Bandit rotisserie. I have a few too many accessories from watching TH-cam videos!

Hey Phil!.......How did You do that?!?! First I'm watching your video.........and then an old video of mine came on. 😁 You are a magician at this TH-cam stuff!
Yep.......You got yourself a sweet expandable, endless configuration of Kettle and WSM now! That's what I'm talking about! 👍
I'm guessing it won't sit on the SnS? That would be cool!
Can't wait to see what you do on your first cook. I'll be watching!

haha, I surprised ya. I was waitin for you to open up TH-cam and see it. Hope you didn't mind me grabbing some of your stuff. Hope you liked it. You and Joe have been my inspiration when it comes to wsm and kettle stackers. I'm just copying ya'll. The rib rack will sit in the SNS, but the lid is in the way for the stacker. You know how the wsm lid detaches, but the SNS does not. However, I can hang half racks of ribs in the SNS, and put my fire down low or even on the sides. I'll eventually get around to it. Thanks Ken

I had never heard of Hunsaker Drum Smokers before. I just checked out their website. They seem like very good quality drum smokers compared to some of the other major brands. They have many innovative features too.
Hanging ribs in a vertical cylinder is the way to go even if you are only cooking a few. Whether it is a WSM, DIY UDS, or commercials manufactured barrel smoker, the effect produced by the hanging method is excellent.
I find see the link to the video you mentioned in the beginning, not HMB the other guy that inspired you to order this rib rack.

Hey Lew. yea open pit hanging ribs is hard to beat as far as flavor as well as ease. Ruben over at Mad Swine Backyard BBQ is the channel you referred to. He had 22 racks of BB on his Hunsaker rib rack. Pretty amazing. When he opened that wsm up, it was wall to wall ribs. Looked good too. That would be a hand full working by yourself. Looks good Phil. Using the stacker and the rotisserie ring should allow me to hang a chicken on the kettle. I will probably be hanging two chickens in the WSM tomorrow. I had a neighbor drop off a case of water yesterday morning, anonymously, but I caught her on my doorbell cam so I will do one for her family. I have been experimenting with high heat silicone plugs to plug up the spare holes in the rotisserie ring. Stay healthy.

    • @progers5019

Hello Thomas. You have all good ideas. You can hang anything on the kettle with both rings. Silicone plugs is a good idea to plug holes. That is what plugs up my guru port. Sounds like good neighbors you have, and you are one yourself. Thanks for watching and for the great comments.

What's up Rob & Duke. Yea, I may need to take up an offering to buy all the meat that can cook on this bad boy. Since we're having a cool 68° day, I'm cooking two butts right now. Open pit fire burning oak, shoveling coals under the meat. Gone be some Goodern. Most of the BBQ pork will go into vacuum seal bags and frozen for later meals. Will put on two quartered chickens in a little while. That open pit with oak coals makes the best chicken you will eat. IMO of course. I bet if Duke were here he'd agree wid me. Take care and enjoy your weekend.

I wonder, does the stacker ring fit between the bottom and middle section? That really opens up a lot of cooking options. Extra charcoal capacity, easy access to lower grates, you've pretty much convinced me to buy both. My wife's gonna be mad! Until she starts eating 😜

Nice video. I just got the Hunsaker Rib Rack myself and did my 1st cook on it last weekend. Didn't have ribs, but did cooked some whole chicken. Turned out very very good and very pleased with the results. I haven't done ribs yet, but looking forward to it. Don't think we'll be doing rib this weekend because it's Easter, but if you do ribs on your soon I would be most interested in the results. I don't have the bandit so I would be concern if the coal would be too close to the part of the rib close to the fire. I could put the water pan in there (no water) to act as a deflector shield. Thank you for sharing. The WSM sure is fun to cook on.

Great Video Phil all your missing for your kettle is the aura outdoor kettle zone system. Then you would have one chicken hanging machine. You need another kettle base and you can create the easy clean Wsm. I happen to see some one put a pan in top of hanging rack while hanging ribs around perimeter. Did you ever use your Bbq Dragon diffuser. It looks like Spring has Sprung in Florence, yard looking good. Looking forward to you testing your new aquisitions. Stay safe

You sent me that fire dial and the stone got forgotten. lol Yes spring has sprung. It brought Carona with it. Maybe hot weather will dry it up. Not sure if I'm up to a big garden this year. May have to settle for some mater and pepper plants, and the rest from the Farmers Market. I'm gettin old with pain and health issues. Have a great weekend.
