I finally took the time to sit down and follow along with each step (adjusting for my own voice/environment/preferences when necessary), and dang I’ve never liked the SM7B this much! I’ve really been struggling to find a sound I love with it on the RCP2 and this is fantastic. Can’t wait to put it to the test on a few upcoming projects 👍
right?!?! that's probably my biggest reward/takeaway about getting the RCP 2... preamps on there are so strong and clean... makes dynamics like the sm7b and re20 sound great. like, almost rejuvenates them. i didn't entirely like the way they sounded on cheaper/lesser interfaces... even the apollo to be honest. something about the RCP2 that's a perfect pairing.
Awesome video. Sound treating is a terrifying topic for me, so I usually just don't. I have the SM7B going into a Focusrite Solo, and sometimes add the Podcast preset on Audition. That's it. My issue is that I travel a ton, so I'm often in new places. Thanks for the video.
Whoa, Brodie with Rodecaster Pro 2! I never thought you’d switch from the UAD Apollo setup. As a fellow RCP 2 owner, I’m excited to watch this later with my headphones. Congrats on the new toy! 🎉
haha! I have to say... LOVE the Apollo still... and it's my main home studio unit still... but I got this RCP because I'm going to be doing a lot more remote-work from my office in San Francisco, and this does the trick even better than my revelator io24. can't wait to use it a bunch this summer. it's great gear... I'm glad you've got one too, good choice!
Brodie!?! I was randomly looking for these types of videos and I see you?!? Oakland As fan here so I am very familiar with your "voice!" Just got a subscriber here! Looking forward to more!
OK, seems like I've found another great audio related channel, coming from the worlds of Tom Buck and PodcastMeister. It was Tom who mentioned (and linked) this video in his latest podcast. So great when creators are doing this. Thanks for all info here which is easily applicable to my Shure MV7. My voice is absolutely not deep so I actually gain from this kind of a mic that is a bit "darker". Great job!
@@benjiang9789 You are SO right here, relaxing the throat is essential. I get excited and my voice becomes hoarse all of a sudden. I've been training myself by doing livestreams and I hear some good results when I get to relax. Sometimes, a night of singing the day before gives (sometimes) that "radio voice" naturally, so maybe I should implement that all the time 🙂 Cheers!
Hey Brodie, congrats on the new gig with the Sharks! Quick question: Any adjustments to these tips when using the SM7dB with the built-in preamp? Love this channel, and your main one as well. You're a big inspiration to what I'm trying to put together.
Did you add any boost to the volume in post? Copied the settings and have windows set correctly but it is very quiet in comparison to your setup. Even at 60db of input gain on the RCP2
Great tutorial! been playing with these exact settings for a while now, but found slightly noticeable 'click' sound when initating voice, while having attack below 4ms on NOISE GATE. If the value is increased up to 2ms it gets better, but below 2 ms its starts to become more and more noticeable.
Awesome video, will be using this and tweaking for my RCPII/SM7B set up. Out of curiosity, how did you get the Mid Bell to 295.2Hz? The only options I've got near that are 289.8 and 298? Thanks again!
Great update thanks man, been using / tweaking with my RP2 for couple months now (on SM7B & RE20). Always excited to learn from your advice 👍🏻 Did you know that on EQ page if you long press the gain buttons (1sec) it changes to Q settings to adjust slope? Keep the videos coming and thanks again from a fan in EU
1) thanks for being here, and 2) WOW... I didn't know that, and just tried it. amazing trick! I actually think I need to re-adjust my Q settings on the re-20 preset I've made. thanks so much for showing me that trick... probably should make a video now to share with others. appreciate you Steve!
@@HomeStudioProthank you, I am using your settings and the difference is amazing, yes I could probably tweak it for my room but very impressed with the results, A* video for sure 🙏
I have a question. I have the Shure SM7B, and even though I have all the components you used in the video and all the connections are correct, the microphone generates background noise, like a sound of rain. I think that’s called static. How did you solve it? I’ve tried everything and I haven’t been able to fix it. I changed the interface, bought another XLR cable, and tried connecting it to all the ports on my PC, but nothing works. I don’t know what to do anymore, or if this noise is normal for the microphone. Can you help me with that, please?
I tried to monitor my voice in obs studio but the delay from the monitor output makese me go insane it must be nice to have a rode with a shure mic I dont eeven have one I just have my headset... I think the off sync in yourr mic makese it easy to hear your voice and tune it in huh.. wish I had a rode pro and shure mic
this is correct... sending the audio through the computer introduces latency, that's impossible to actually listen to while speaking. hardware and external solutions are the the best for this. thanks for being here on the channel!
Great video, but I have noticed one thing, I just copied your presets but on the DE-ESSER page at 6:20 your line is flat, but mine is not mine has a pretty steep curve in towards the end, weird, maybe it is something with the new update of the software, or if you were to check, do you have the same as before or like me now?
Do you guys touch up the audio while editing the video before uploading? In almost every video I see about this, their sound always seems to be louder than in my live recordings.
Hello. Can you recommend an audio interface for live broadcast and dubbing? If possible, you can also give microphone advice. My total budget for the audio interface and microphone is $1,000. I don't want to spend more than I need. I'm very undecided and I can't decide whether I should buy a Rodecaster Duo style product or whether the ID14 will do the job as well. I would be happy if you help
His voice with the various settings all sound the same to me… they all sound great. Perhaps someone can share their technique for listening “correctly” to hear the difference better.
Im using the exact same settings but for some reason the sound is tinny/dull when listing to it in the car - but on the phone or pc everything sounds fine - do you know what setting I need to tweak ? Thank you so much

I think the neural preset or podcast studio do the job

Great tutorial! Thanks so much.
Bought the presets, and one small tweak for me on the noise gate and it's wonderful, thank you and HIGHLY recommended!
waiting for my SM7B to arrive - already have the RCP2 - will come back and watch the whole thing...
how do you like it?
Just came across this video after recently buying an RCP2. This is an excellent tutorial. Many thanks!
Thanks for the video. really helped me dial in the best settings for me with the Rodecaster Duo
Glad it helped! you're welcome
Appreciate your time on this.

Awesome video!!! THANK YOU! Just picked up the SM7B and RCP2 o the timing of this video is perfect! Now, I just need to learn how to record!
Love this setup. Thank you for walking us through your settings.
Wonderful tutorial, well presented, and it sounds terrific. Thank you very much.
That was dope
You always sound incredible.
very kind of you thanks. it's all in the settings certainly not my natural voice hahah

didn't know tom did that but he's a great guy and very talented creator! big fan too over here. thanks for letting me know!
Morgan Freedman said most people are not deep enough in voice. Everyone needs some training, in particular, the skill to relax our throat.

you rock Brodie! thank you for this
my pleasure!

yep! should have included that! the "master compeller" is engaged and boosted +7db... also in the video i usually add another 2db during editing.
@@HomeStudioPro thanks for clarifying!
Thank you very much.
Great content as always! I hope you'll show us RE 20 + Rodecaster Pro II next time.
thanks much. guess what... that video is already made and waiting to be published! stay tuned!

it's very random to be honest... the dials always give me different amounts. so long as you're that close, it's negligible
Please, share your settings for re20 in RCP2!! thanks for this video!
that video was published late last week here on the channel. check it out!
@@HomeStudioPro Thanks!! sorry, next time i will search better😅
very good! I used SM7B configuration for my transmitter. There's not going to be a video of the rode broadcaster, right? hugs from Brazil!
thanks for being here. i dont have a rode broadcaster to test, unfortunately!

Wow 😮 going to try this now
I'd love an update on this video!
Thank you so much!
On the back of the sm7b do you just have the switches in the default position? Not sure if you mentioned it in the video and I missed it?
sorry if i didn't mention that! yes, they're both in the flat position. thanks for being here!

When you took the wind foam off, I noticed that the mic became much more sibilant.
most likely it did. that foam blocks a lot of mid-high range frequency. too much maybe even

@@HomeStudioPro Thanks man, let me know when you see if yours looks the same as before or the way I explained mine looked. :)
I think this is to do with different firmware version I guess they changed it possibly, mine is like yours had the curv downwards
Do you guys touch up the audio while editing the video before uploading? In almost every video I see about this, their sound always seems to be louder than in my live recordings.
Normalize maybe? It gotta be. These same settings don't sound as loud in my case.

Is there a way to hear ourselves talk in our headphones? ..

are u useing a cloud lifter
I followed every step 😫I’m still at red in OBS 😪exact same setup. What am I missing?
Hi does this have fx settings like reverb/Delay etc
yes it does! not a LOT of customization, but enough to pull the tricks off.
So for EQ high bell it wont let me get to the number you have, it goes from 9056 to 9225 with just 1 click
i think via the software you might be able to type in a number. at that range though.. you're close enough!
Does the RC2 have loopback in it

I can't hear my microphone at all.. Rode told me to use a cloud lifter.
Do you use a cloud booster?
with the rodecaster pro ii... i do not. there's plenty of gain on these awesome preamps.
Genial....
Like if @tombuck sent you here 😃
