    There are two extant species of cheetah, the Asiatic Cheetah (Acinonyx venaticus) and the African Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus).

    • @vincentx2850
      @vincentx2850 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The genetic differences between the two population are not significant enough for full species status

    • @indyreno2933
      @indyreno2933 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually, the modern-day cheetah is actually two separate species, with the Acinonyx jubatus scientific name now comprising of only African subspecies while the asiatic cheetah is treated as a full separate species scientifically named Acinonyx venaticus, just like the modern-day raccoon dog is actually two separate species, the Chinese Raccoon Dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) of mainland asia and the Japanese Raccoon Dog (Nyctereutes viverrinus) of Japan.
