The ones that aim straight grounded with a thick hit box are pretty much unavoidable but you can limit chip by super jumping and then FD blocking the rest if you really don't want to eat any chip damage.
@@imfinishedgrinding638 there's 3 variants of the Megalomania and all of them are meant to be avoided entirely. 1) a line that curves slightly upwards - avoided by staying as far back from i-No in your corner and crouching. 2) a wavy line that curves up and down - avoided by walking up to the middle of the screen and then crouching down as the shots close in. 3) A wide reaching blast completely covering i-No from the front - avoided by getting right in front of her and double jumping behind her just when she shoots.
Well you can use the barrier at worse if you didn't manage to avoid it, well you'll need tension but it's not impossible to dodge, sometimes even the big one can be dodged by going behind her.

Guilty gear one is broken as hell but not for the reasons most people think, the easy infinites are actually Abel to be teched out of, the game never states this snd the ai will ever do it so ppl think it’s not a feature. What makes gg broken is the insane back dash, free metereless guard cancels , charge cancle combos and instant kills .
But most of those situations are unlikely to happen as they were incredibly hard to pull on arcade machines back in the day. These were discovered during rigorous testing on emulators and many of the moves are done using autofire cheats, especially the fast tap moves, like Chang's ball or Rimururu's icicles in Sam Sho. Not to mention that a lot of ROMS can be bugged.
*Most games:* "Okay, if you block any one particular attack, it'll still hurt, but it shouldn't outright kill you." *Early KOF:* "Yeah, you need to burn, like... three full super meters, but you could chip an opponent down to 99%." *BlazBlue:* "Fuck that pussy shit! We do TOD even on block here! All for the low cost of *_half_* of your tension gauge!"

Oh yeah. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure that Fo's super in one of the games does stupid damage if you just block it. It might be dependent upon positioning too though. I forget. (R.I.P. _Battle Arena Toshinden_ in general.)

I think there was like a giant orb of energy involved that chipped the hell out of you couldn't dodge it.
I remember that in MK2011 playing as Skarlet and under specific circumstances, it was possible to chip down about 60% of your opppnent life bar. It was way safer just to take the combo instead of blocking it.
It was worse in 96. It had no recovery time after the last hit, so you could do another one immediately when your health was red. That's why they changed the last hit's animation in 97.
Most of the games in the late 90s actually have Guard cancels and dodge or some sort of counters, unfortunately in KOF 94/95 this isn't remotely possible 😂

It's not a bug, that's intended behavior for Amane. His gameplay revolves around chip damage so he has moves that hit dozens of times to make that work.

I like Gokuraku. He reminds me of Shugoki from For Honor, and the kanabo spin is a neat playstyle if fully fleshed out. The move punishes blocking, and doesn't do much damage otherwise. I like that. I want to see more of that in fighting games, where the mechanics boil down to "that thing you normally do won't work against me!"
Man, there are some really crazy moves out there. Athena's DM in KoF'97 are the one that susprised me the most. Didn't had idea its chip damage was so massive and deadly... And wrong! The Cristal Shield Bite SDM with Shot Included The moment she charges the Shot shouldn't hit the opponent, giving him a chance to punish her (thought it also happens in KoF 95).
I think an honorable mention should be one of Archer's supers from Fate Unlimited/Codes. It was a ranged super that had as much strength as a light punch UNLESS it was blocked, then it became a long range command grab. Not exactly chip damage, but a pretty nasty surprise for people who didn't know how it worked.
I had completely forgotten that characters like Athena and Rimururu used to act a lot tougher and had normal sounding voices before SNK went full moe with them.
Fun fact, this is why after the Tekken 7 Fated Retribution update, the removed the ability to KO with chip damage. You could chip KO your opponent with Kazumi's tiger attack.

It's damage taken while blocking. It's supposed to be VERY minimal, like blocking a Super move should probably do less damage than getting hit with a Heavy attack. Even the attacks with small chip damage in this vid are absurdly big conpared to how it should be. Though, Amane from BlazBlue is built around chip damage. Those drills of his have to be leveled up, and that game has Barrier Blocking to help defenders, so he surprisingly isn't actually bullshit
Arcana Heart 3's Dorothy with 4 cards laying flat on the ground then a wild card to complete her poker hand = about half hp either blocking or not blocking, blocking with water arcana negates chip damage, blocking with thunder arcana's extend force makes the block clash the projectiles and negate their damage. Iirc this setup can be coupled with metal arcana's Arcana Eclipse or Arcana Blaze for more chip damage (the AB can't be clashed, the AE can) Edit: Arcana Eclipses were added in AH3 Love Max!!!!!, iirc Dorothy's wild card was added there as well (and not earlier)

That's the charm of chip damage gods, they are your average characters with a very abusable quirk
the knockback tech in the capcom VS games was a great way to handle this issue.

MvC2 Servbot's special chip damage in takes more than the actual hit.
