After 30+ years of riding all Japanese (mostly Hondas) litre class sportsbikes, dirt, naked and adventure bikes recently bought a 2011 Harley Davidson forty eight. The Harley is unlike anything I’ve ever owned or ridden. The bike feels alive and reminds me of an old muscle car. I’m hooked. I look forward to seeing more of your new ride. this is how i feel going from my ducati 848 to a nighster 1200 its just got more character and is also significatly more comfortable/ cheaper to maintain which means i want to ride more than ever.

, didn't even keep it for the period of rego ... i hated it...but alas, I rode a breakout and it was insanely different.. such a beautiful cruising machine, the sound, the surprisingly responsive handling... i dont think ill ever get rid of this one..

P.S. I wave to everyone on two wheels, but I’ve noticed only about half of Harley riders wave back to me. I ride a naked bike.
Yeah, I was just assuming that other bikes aren’t used to harleys waving. I know I’ve ran into a few that don’t and I think almost all other bikes do.
It’s very simple it’s because most ppl can only afford one bike and don’t switch often
At one time, I hated Harley Davidsons. Then as time went on, I realized, it was not the bikes I hated but the obnoxiously loud exhausts that some people put on them. I now like several models of HD's. but the ones I want are well above what I'm willing to pay.

I went from a CBR1000rr to a Nighttrain. That didn’t last long because i missed the handling performance of a sport bike. I know own a Ducati Monster 1200 and love it!
I’m going from a R1 to a Moto Guzzi V11 Sport lol, I need the handling still but I don’t care for the high speed anymore

Sportster are great bikes. It’s a different ride. Nothing compares to Harley-Davidson fit and finish+ customisation. With a sportster the customisation options are infinite
Yeah they do have great ability for customization, but the fit and finish can be hit or miss. My 2020 street glide special had a few issues that I finally got fed up with and bought a 2020 Triumph Rocket 3 R and I’m so glad I got the Rocket 🚀

@@joshstafford4410 there is Harley motorcycles and there are others is what I feel after buying and using Yamaha, Honda, etc. Also tried riding BMW( BMW was good). Ducati was the worst of all . They charge such heavy and the quality was not there + the heat was like something wrong with the bike. Harley gave made a good bike . looks custom built, minimal plastics, very stable on highways and can carry a pillion easy. Offer all kind of seating options . Torque monsters. easy to modify and never wanted another bike after it. Harley has issues but they are easy fix + less expensive parts are available.

Riding a Harley is just a completely different experience from any other brand. It’s really hard to explain other than that they have a lot more character to them. I’ve had 2 generations of sportsters, the old style softail and now a new softail. I plan on keeping my current bike for the rest of my life!
This episode spoke to me so hard. I have a cruiser, and it's hard hearing the rest of the community be so harsh on them. It's a difficult to articulate feeling that it gives me when I ride, the lump and idle, and the way it pulses as I rev it on acceleration, feels so mechanical and raw. Do I want to sit at 65 for hours on it on a road trip? With the vibration and strung out motor, probably not, but around town, on a commute, in suburbia? It loves every second of that and so do I!

The hard candy is very cool, love the pipes. I had a Sportster Roadster traded it for an FZ09. Great video, nice to see some from Colorado put out good content.

I am glad you are enjoying the sportster. I bought my first Harley last year. It is a 2007 Heritage Softail. It has a 96" twincam b.

I went from a 2020 R1 to a 2007 Harley 1200 sportster. I agree with the mindset varies on each bike. The R1, I always wanted speed and as much as I loved the bike I needed to switch to a harley for a bit to mature a bit more.
i also had a 2020 R1, i now have a 1200 sportster fourty eight, the R1 turned me into a lunatic! 😂 the harley is great and i feel happy cruising around under the speed limit

We are in the same boat! I have my 2022 Yamaha MT-10 which I love and just picked up a 2014 Sportster 48 that’s set up very similarly to yours! I was just going to get it because it was slower and needed to slow down with this upcoming riding season for probation purposes and I am so in love! First Harley of mine ever! Have always wanted one but they’re way too expensive for my taste brand new. Picked mine up for $6000 with 8400 miles on it! Super clean too! Safe riding my friend!
there is a usually a trip meter button , if you scroll trough it the rpm should come up on the where the miles are and what gear your in
I have told Alex and Kase to throw a leg over any and all motorcycles that you can! Opinions can change in a 5 min ride! Opportunity to ride something different can wake you up to rider knowledge and understanding of what it takes to ride that type of bike (whatever flavor). Bikes are a lot like food, if you don’t try it you will never know what it tastes like. Never say never to experiencing something different.
Sounds lean buddy! DynaJet power commander will make the fuel injection a lot happier. Exhaust popping will be gone. You will get more rpm and power. It won’t hit the limiter as fast! I bet Kase likes the bike!!

Owned two Sportsters in my life. I'm your basic sports bike rider at heart, so eventually I sold them but I enjoyed them while I had them. Couple of issues, particularly for that 48. One, you may burn your leg on that exhaust. Two, watch out on right hand turns. I grounded my exhaust repeatedly for some scary moments. Finally, the forward controls riding position is tough on my back over bumps. I can ride all day in a "track bike" position, even on a Ducati, but Harleys seem wear me out after a few hours even though I've gone on 600 mile trips on a Road Glide.
Lean the body and keep the bike up more on the tire and this helps with scraping pegs and pipes. A little scary when you feel the pavement with your shoe or boot or more dramatic hit your pipes or pipe clamps.
What about "Yamaha?" The 08 R6 is about as radical a ride position there is.

@@replynotificationsdisabled yeah no, I had a sportster roadster, with the forward controls. Hated that position plus no suspension travel, my back hurts from it still and I’ve always been on sportbikes. On any sport bike you can hold with your legs, engage your core and be flexible and mobile. On the sporty you can’t reallly move, there’s nothing to grab with your legs, and they’re shoved out in a way that makes it hard to use them to hold onto the bike or brace against the wind. I’m only complaining about riding position, not the fact stock Harley suspension wobbles really bad above 85-90 and if you build the motor to make even half the power a 1000cc sport bike makes (with 200 less cc than the 1200) it feels like its literally going to rattle apart
I love my Harley 48. I'm also picking up a Grom to have some around town fun. Never understood the brand loyalty that some people have. Love your 48 man! Enjoy it and ride safe!
I was a sports bike rider for 20 years. I grew up around Harleys because of my dads club and I still fondly remember him or one of his brothers picking me up from elementary school on one Harley or another. I had also ridden countless HD's as well for the same reasons and I rode one of my dads custom built Sporties through Highschool , but I preferred sports bikes, nakeds etc, so that's what I bought and rode throughout my military career and later. About 5 years ago I bought my first cruiser, a 2012 Triumph Thunderbird Storm. Then about a year later and I added a Kawasaki Vaquero and a year after that a pair of 2018 Street Bobs. I've given up on any bike without a neutral knee position or forwards now due to old injuries and old age. I'm a bit surprised you went with a Sporty and not something like a Standard or even better a Street Bob 114 with your riding experience. The Street Bob 114 is a light'ish HD with a low seat height and a ton of fun. A lot of room to grow into as well. I even recommend 107 Street Bobs for new riders just because they are so rider friendly and easy to handle that they wont outgrow in a year and have to worry about trading or selling to move up.

Just bought a 2020 48 special. Like yours mine has many mods and i love it. Mine is maybe too loud but i love it.

I have ridden mostly dual sports over my riding career thus far but a while back I picked a Harley Crossbones and loved it! Unfortunately since then that bike has left the stable but my eyes are always looking for another to fit that niche
I came from a sportster (iron 883), to now owning a Yamaha XSR 900/MT09. Love both bikes for different reasons. When I started out I was set on one bike, one brand. Now I want want one of each brand and from each niche. 😂🔥 ADV, Supermoto, cruisers etc.

I went from a Honda crf250l to a forty eight. Big change. Bumps are way harsher, but I love my Harley. Good looking bike man.
If you plan on keeping it long term, put a stage 1 in it for a little more HP.
Surprised nobody is pointing out in the comments that the bike does have a tachometer. Scroll through your trip meter and there is a screen that shows rpm and what gear you are in
Like me i went to a sport touring bike a Kawasaki Concours to cruiser with low rev but plenty of power nothing to do with your HD 883 i bought the Triumph Rocket 3 GT and man what a difference of riding its giving me, love it was ready for it and i enjoy it very much. Good motorcycle season for you sir.

Its rare that I see a custom bike that I'd like to own. Harleys are all about doing the work yourself and taking ownership of the result. But I like what you got. I dig it. Congrats on finding this. I wave to anyone on two wheels including bicycles. If you dont enjoy the forward controls, factory mid controls bolt right on and take less than an hour to swap back and forth.

Great looking machine! Very American. Perfect for Colorado roads. Big tires will be compliant for how poorly maintained those roads are. I think you will appreciate the sounds, the attention, the slow cruise feeling it gives you. For me, I would not be comfortable on it. Would be terrifying. lol The riding position would be very bad on me. Kase is going to absolutely LOVE that thing! You 2 can form your own Wild Hogs group now. lol Enjoy Alex!
Just bought a new HD Sportster S. Sold my Suzuki Boulevard S50 (which was a fantastic first bike for me) and I’m loving every second of it
Gotta try a Buell. You get the character of the Sportster engine (with a little extra performance) while still getting the sharp handling of sport/naked bikes. Very unique crossover between cruiser and sport bike worlds.
Not joking my Buell xb handled better than anything I ever rode before. I'd rather take a Buell xb around the racetrack over a 600. Even though on paper the 600 should be much easier. I loved the way you could lean that machine. And still had plenty of horsepower to hang close to the 600s

Hey bud I also got the 48, the 2018 model. Love it! I came from sport bikes, crotch rockets. Like u said it’s a completely different experience. U actually form a bond with HD, like I’ve never had with sport bikes.

I sold my vtwin cruiser to get a 2015 fz09. Having that drastic change really is great and you enjoy totally different types of riding.
I bought my first and last harley 1200 nightster a year ago. Nothing but headaches and issues from day one. Warranty issues, electrical issues, such a list. First chance I get, swapping for metric bike. Good looking 48. I hope you have a better experience than I have had.

I just bought a 2017 forty eight and I love it. From someone who grew up riding dirtbikes and riding in different position and how bike rides. I really love this bike it’s very comfortable for me.
i have both, 2015 mt09 and 2022 harley 48. love them both for different reasons, great bikes
I was on a search for a 2004-2006 1200 sportster to then install the Hammer kit. I found a 2004 Custom 1200. over 80 hp and 80 ft lbs. 2004-2006 XL1200C Sportsters come with factory Buell heads with bee hive springs, Buell cam, and Rev limiter increased 500 rpm. I must say, it is the most fun Harley ever! It is how all Harleys engines should have been from the factory. It is fast enough and so I am satisfied. No Hammer needed. Now. For your 48, I would install the Hammer kit. You can get it for under a grand, and is super simple to install as these motors are very simple. Imagine your 48 with over 100hp and 100 ft lbs at the rear wheel!! Doing this Hammer to your 48 is a video I want to see!!

@@dry509 True. Only this model and those 3 years from what I have read. I mis spoke when I said I have a 2004. I have the 2005. It is fast as heck and is stock. Test ride one. You too will see. A hooligan bike for sure. I have owned and still own so many bikes I forget what I have!! 2004-2006 were rubber mounted and carb only. Best years for sure!! I say mine is stock. Near stock. I knocked out the plugs on the exhaust, I have cut goldwing fork springs into my forks as spacers to adjust rate and height, and EBC pucks front and rear so it stops better. That is it. The nice thing is that the carb motors respond way better to mods than the non carb motors. Since they are a single carb, if you need to change jets, its a snap!! The only other mod I would consider would be the rear shocks as the factory version can be a bit harsh on sharp bumps. I have seen others install road king air shocks on the back of these sportsters with great results. I have owned many and ridden many sportsters. This is by far the most powerful and most fun Harley ever!! EVER!! Comfort, decent handling. It will hit 100mph in a flash!! Once I get over 110mph or so, the handling gets squirrely. I love riding the canyons mainly Deer Creek. There are a few spots where you can hit 90-100 so mist of the time you are under that so the handling is great! If you put a Hammer kit on your 1200 sportster which will bump it up to over 100hp you need to consider the handling portion. Not sure how to cure that. I had a XVZ1300 which was way over powered for its chassis. It would get to 100mph in seconds and any attempt to change direction would cause the bike to begin resonance. Also known as a tank slapper. I did everything. Stiffen up suspension, fork brace and more. All it did way up the death speed from 90-100 to 120-130 before resonance. So I got rid of the bike. Most touring bikers on a 800lb bike lounge chair are happy with 100 mph top speed. The Harley is all day comfort and plenty fast, that is to say.. My 2005 XL1200C. No Hammer needed. But this guy with his 48. 60 hp is some what anemic. A hammer kit would be the ideal. He could go with the 90hp kit as they are on sale for like 500 bucks or so. Not sure if they are still on sale or not. Even so, at 900 its worth it!! Since he has EFI, Hammer will sell him the ECU he needs. A one day install and hang on!!! He should do it !! It would make a great Video!! Gosh.. Long on wind here.. Forgive me.

You probably figured it out by now.. but the tack is found by tapping through the menu using the function button on the left hand (button is the upper right one). You have total odometer, trip a, trip b, the clock, and your tac / gear indicator. :D Great bike - ride safe and enjoy :)

But as for bikes, smaller is better. I love the sporters. Especially the Roadster, personally. The 48 is a great choice too. I drive Cadillacs bc I like them. Like Kase & his Desire for funky IMO😅 Cassette tapes. But I do ❤ that quirk about him. & appreciate it! I also love ❤❤ Corvettes vs some db Porsche always have. But I also HAVE Owned Autin Minis albeit mod'd to the inth degree! 😂 & Abarths same way. I just ❤❤❤vehicles! I have learned to stopped caring what others think of me. Truly.

I did the exact opposite, went from a cruiser to a naked and it’s the perfect bike for me. Still comfortable but has the fun as well
There is a digital tachometer. On your left hand the button that looks like a wheel. Scroll that and the last option is gear indicator and a tachometer. That is what I leave mine on

I had a 2018 48 Special in billiard white and I put 10k miles on it before upgrading to a 2019 Softail Slim. Love my Slim to death but that 48 really was something else. Hopefully one day I can find another one to park next to my Softail.
Went from owning a KTM Superduke 1290r for 6 year to a Sportster Roadster 1200, so far I'm liking it, the chill vibes of riding a Harley is really different from having to hold on for my dear life on a Superduke lol 0 regrets so far!

I did the same thing pretty much, started out with a 86 xl250 dual sport, graduated to a 88 Hawk gt, cbr600, to a blackbird cbr1100xx to a 73 harley shovelhead. Idk why it took so long for me to try harleys but now that I have one of the best sounding ones, I can't go back! I am very much entertaining the 48 as my daily rider and let the shovel be a hotrod
I’ve owned the fz09 and currently have a GSXR 600 and a Forty eight. While the FZ was the best bike I’ve ever owned, I love ripping around on the sporty for sure!
if I'm not mistaken it does have Tachometer but it's digital, you have to scroll the menu on the dial so the tachometer shows instead of the Odometer.
I don't agree with the fact that this bike is a much slower experience, just for cruising. I had one (model 2011) that I rode in the tight french and swiss Alps: it's much more capable than people think. It's not as capable as "normal" bikes but sure likes to be beaten on. Ended up selling the bike because I started having the frame scratch the road. Had I raised it up a little and found better tires, I might have kept it... Friends made fun of me and didn't get it...but I had a lot of fun with it! (and I am very experienced, had more than 20 bikes of all types, from supermoto to sport bikes and a couple of big adventure bikes before they became so popular).
Only would suggest a suspension upgrade because if you grab the brakes on a bumpy road, the front wheel bounces and you don't stop!
I love my sportster, it feels slightly different with a 2 into 1 exhaust. It now has 76k miles on so far.

Mann Im a big fan of all kinds of bikes. Ive currently got two 1983 Honda Shadows, one i turned into a bobber, the other im currently trying a Cafe Racer style build with, also have a 2020 48, and my most recent purchase was a 2023 Triumph Street Triple.

Late to the party, but I like to think of the motorcycle rivalry between cruisers and crotch rockets like the military branches. We all give each other a jab and a hard time, but at the end of the day, we're all two-wheeled brothers and sisters. Of course you have those that take it too far on both sides and nobody wants to claim them. But congrats on the "new" bike. I've had both as well. In fact, I went from an R1 to a cream colored 883 (which I still regret getting rid of) to an FZ-09 (when they were called that) back to a Road King Special. I like both. The dream is to not have to chose and just have both types in my garage at all times. Haha Cheers brother.

Good stuff man! Cool looking bike as well as easier to do the speed limit with. I am currently rocking a Honda VTX 1300 2009 love it but man what a gas hog only getting like 34 to 39mpg.

I ride a 15' Vstrom and got my wife her first bike at the end of the riding season last year, 03 suzuki savage. I so much enjoy switching between my adv bike and her cruiser! It's so different and is a completely different riding experience. I'm just happy being on 2 wheels! I would love to hear your thoughts on those Avon Cobra tires. I would consider those for the Savage when it's that time.

nice ride, I got my first Triumph back in November. went from Moto Guzzi to Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda and now the Triumph its weird bc it sounds like a vtwin sport bike... I just went from a 2002 Honda VTX 1800r to a 2014 Trophy SE.. huge Vtwin to 1215cc inline 3 cylinder sport touring bike.. its got lots of cool tech but man I miss my cruiser.. will get a Vulcan 2000 or another VTX 1800 soon you can find them for $5000-$6000
I've had a MT07 (license restriction), Honda VFR 800 and a CBR 600. When I was in Italy I rented a forty-eight (got vids on my channel) and I had a great time, it was so much fun. Idk why it was just the noise, the shaking at idle (yes i know haha), and burning my shoe if I got to close to the exhaust. I'm getting one for sure for the summer.
Same here Bro, except I purchased an 08 Dyna Low Rider, I've had Honda XL 125 in high school early 80's next YZ-250, then a Honda Hurricane 600, then I didn't ride for like almost 20 years (was raising a family ) then got a 05 CBR 600rr then a 09 CBR 1000rr now the Low Rider. I still have Both RR's and take them out when I just want to Rip. But Yeah the Harley is just such a good Machine, smooth ride, easy for long distance and nothing sounds better than a Harley rumbling down the street except maybe a V-Max Wide open.
48 has always been my favourite Harley look wise.

Truly said. I don't know you still hold it or not. I still hold mine. It is really addicting with those pair of V&H. I have a BUSA too, but I love a Harley like Crazy. All are Bikes but a Harley is a Motorcycle.
Ridden a few types of Sportsters and they are a fun bike! I thought they called it a 48 as that was the fuel range of the tank lol.
Those pipes are too short and loud though, I’d go some Vance Short Shots, they look and sound great.
You’re tripping. Those sound great. And why wouldn’t you want to be loud on a motorcycle? Loud pipes save lives.

Most people think it’s a design way back during 1948 because of the peanut tank. Alot of other people think 48 miles to the tank it gets, but really it gets ~100 miles to the tank, then other people think it’s called a 48 because it gets 48 miles to the gallon. Considering it’s a 2.1 gallon tank, and you get ~100 miles on one tank, it’ll lead people to believe that as well. But I’m pretty sure it’s called a 48 because of the design of a certain Harley back in 1948.
I am lucky to own a 2019 Kawasaki Z900rs and a 2018 Harley lowrider , both bikes look ultra cool and both sound amazing , and the great thing is that both are a totally different riding experience .
Cool bike , I do love an xl . My personal opinion is fix the fender, seat, exhaust, taillights, suspension and maybe mids. Enjoy it though , the way the used market is its only a matter of time before we are going to see sportster prices get stupid. I.E the foxbody.
I went for my bike test a few months ago solely to get a 48, I love the look of them, I know the hate for sportsters and harleys but don't care at all, they look frigging badass. My budget won't allow me to get one yet, managed to pick up a Honda VFR 800 for my first bike, absolutely love it, its fast (for me anyway) sounds great, doesn't look the best to me but it was a bargain. Unfortunately, I can't help but go fast on it, like you said they want you to go fast! One day I will get me a 48!
That bike does have a tac you just won’t have an odometer. I’ve got a 2021 iron was 883 now 1250. Those street sweepers sound great I got the Vance and Hines on mine.
Evos sound great are easy to work on and even easier to find parts for. The best part about a sporty is you can make them anything.
