Thank you for the tip! Didnt know that you could take the case out like that, now installing my window unit on the second story won’t be so nerve racking

Not all units have a slide out design like that, most units just the top cover comes off.

I’m so nervous about having one of these installed! Especially in the window on the back side of the building where there are people driving directly below the window.🙏

You didn’t explain in detail, what type of wood you were cutting and how you fit it into the window all the particulars

Still don’t know how it’s mounted , affixed so it doesn’t just fall out the window

You're supposed to bolt a steel shelf to the wall outside the window to support it but many people just let the flange rest against the window frame and window sash or where the sliding window panel rests against the machine which is why we always hear stories of a window AC being dropped onto a parked car or the sidewalk below. I suspect with this video, it's the latter.
The saddle type air conditioners would be my preference even though that's more window space to seal up. There's also the U type AC with a deep groove between the indir air handler and evaporator coils and the outdoor compressor and condenser coils but with sliding and casement windows, they should still have a supporting shelf of some kind though these could just be temporary braces attached to the bottom of the outdoor compressor and condenser portion.

I don’t know either! I just can’t grasp the concept of how it’s going to be safe! Someone’s going to install it for me this weekend but I don’t even know where to begin with the right supplies. A brace? Plexiglass? What size? Can I get it pre-cut? Do we get rid of our screen? Is it worth it since it’s probably going to cool down in about a month? I’m a nervous wreck about it. Help!

There are transparent heat shrink films that you attached to the frame of a window with double sided tape and shrink to stretch it smoothly with a hair dryer in order to better insulate and seal your windows for winter. I wonder if you could use that to close off the gap...

So basically just cut out a panel and fit it in

That actually is a very useful tip...I definitely didn't think about that. Though my problem still really is getting the dam heavy a@# thing up into my window by myself...I've been building a pully system the last two heat waves here and think I've finally got a good one figured out now that it's almost fall. Sucks, you'd think ide have least one neighbor or friend that could help me lift it but theyre all elderly or too out of shape or too young or have back problems or shoulder issues....it's gotta go up about 8ft from the ground, my window is not low like everyone else's I'm seeing. Ide do it from thr inside by I have a loft bed that's practically built into the window that doesn't have a big enough space to go in-between to the window with the unit.

Any suggestions or tutorials on how to install on an uneven window surface? I had storm windows, but in front of them I have the windows original to the house, 1926. So when I set it out the window, their a massive air gap underneath because the storm windows are about an inch or 2 higher.
