  • Today we do a lot of hammer forming to make a custom transition to go from the transmission tunnel to the firewall face. This work will finish off the fit up of the new firewall and give the GTO a nice smooth and flat look across the firewall.
If you have a project you would like to showcase at the end of one of my videos just email me a few pics and a short description to: foothillpaintandfabrication@gmail.com

Some hammers and a piece of pipe and you made a complex panel. Nice!

Thanks, not as hard as I thought, just took some time and a test panel.

Thanks, I think it came out really nice too. Still more to come before I get to weld the firewall on but we are getting there.

Awesome work Mark. Thanks for showing me how this is done.

Thanks, if I can do it anyone can. There are people out there that make amazingly complicated shapes with nothing more than hand tools. I am no where near their skill level but I try my best.

That's awesome work Mark! I'm glad I don't need to do anything that intricate on my truck!!

Being your first project you are doing great so far and lucky for you your truck is popular and there are all kinds of replacement panels for the most problematic areas. You will need the cab corners if I remember correctly from the pictures right? How are the door bottoms?

@@FoothillPaintandFabrication Yes, definitely need cab corners on both sides. The door bottoms look good as far as rust, but the passenger door has about 8 holes drilled towards the bottom to pull out a dent. They didn't succeed! :) I'll send you some new pictures soon. I'm working on rebuilding the door hinges currently.

@@douglashart5059 Sounds good. Remember the issues I had and make sure that beauty plate is centered on the hinge properly so it won't interfere with adjustment.

Another nice video Mark! Gives me hope for some of the small patch panels I still need to make. Perseverance!

Thanks Robert, if I can do it you can. Understanding shrinking and stretching helps a lot. On complex curves a few layers of tape laid over the bad spot and trimmed makes a great template when you peel it off.

Wray Schelin's ProShaper Workshop would have used thousands of dollars' worth of machinery to accomplish with any better results! Nice job Mark!

Friday evening and I`m getting caught up on your last two videos. Mark, that was a lot of work but it paid off in the long run fire wall and trans tunnel came out nice! Hats off to Lazyhound, he gave some good advise on the grinder guard! (Face shield is my advise.) Also did you complete the repairs to your air compressor. Take care!

Thanks Rodney, yep got the compressor all back together and seems to be working great. Nice to have air again for sure.
Little more work and I get to weld the firewall on for good.
