  • Today we are once again fixing a factory mistake. This time it is the front fenders on the GTO build. GM A Body front fenders in this era simply do not fit correctly and need to be stretched to go on with a bunch of shims so we are going to fix that. We will be matching the fenders to the doors for a smooth transition and great look.
If you have a project you would like to showcase at the end of one of my videos just email me a few pics and a short description to: foothillpaintandfabrication@gmail.com

Thanks Lyle, jumped before I looked carefully when I was a youngster doing this stuff so I learned the hard way.

Amazing work Mark. I learn so much from your "real" videos. Thank you for your time.

Thanks, it is getting very real having to rework factory undamaged parts just to get them looking nice

Perfect timing on this video. I've been putting off gapping the fenders for about 2 months now, and I have to just bite the bullet and get it done. I know watching your technique will pay off big time because my fenders fit like hot garbage!

Thanks David, I am glad I could pave the way a little for you. You are right these things fit horribly. Once Ruby is on the chassis I will do more work on the mounting tabs as well.

Really enjoyed this video Mark. Super satisfying to watch you solve these problems. Ruby is going to be beautiful!
Put the engine in the ‘49 today.
Once I clean up the shop I’ll take some photos and send them over.

Way to tackle the job Mark! You think your way through everything and it always wins in the end. I was wondering when you were going to make some relief cuts in your braces? 😄Worked out great for you.
I see there is a ton of work to make a show car. You will be so proud of your work in the end!

Thanks Doug, I was resisting making the cuts as it can spring on you if there is a lot of built in stress. In this case laying on the rack it was fine.
I have high expectations for Ruby, hope I can meet them.

@@FoothillPaintandFabrication I'm working on a 73 Firebird Formula 400. I have front fender patch panels to weld in; new door skins to install, then align all the panels just like what you're doing here. This isa great tutorial on how to align panels.

@@roym.9875 Thanks Roy, I hope it is of some help to you. I am actually on the look out for a 70-71 Formula 400 myself for my next project. Looked at few but they think they are worth way to much. I will find one sooner or later.

@@stevebeard3527 Thanks Steve, I kind of learned as I went on this one. Never had to reshape a panel that much to get it to fit properly.

You are spending alot of time fitting this fender to a door lip that you said was curled in and will be fixing later

    • @FoothillPaintandFabrication
      @FoothillPaintandFabrication  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Very true. The door lip is down very lightly so I used a straight edge to bridge the bad lip to get the fender shape. After all I want the overall door and fender to be the same shape, not just where they meet at the gap. Still work to be done for sure.
