I swear STROMAE is like on every "French as second language" textbook xD
But I like him tho. Carmen, Tous les mêmes and Formidable are my favourites.

    Me trying to learn french:
1 hr searching for a good song
10 minutes listening to the song 😂😂😂😂
And I usually end up listening to French versions of Disney songs.

For all French learners out there, I recommend you to listen to Barbara (not Pravi), her music is absolutely wonderful ✨ My favourite songs from her are Du bout des lèvres, Göttingen and Dis, quand reviendras-tu !
Also Loïc Nottet, who is a Belgian singer, made a song recently called “Mr/Mme” that is really good and completely in French!! (he usually makes songs in English)
Foé and Tim Dup are also very good French singers!

This is great! I've been learning French for the past 6 months and listening to music while I run, do housework, and study other subjects has been really helpful. Honestly, the biggest rush is figuring out over time what a song is saying as you learn more and more words. On my list is a lot of older stuff similar to what @Latex Panda suggested, a lot of Charles Aznavour (La bohème, Emmenez-moi, Comme ils disent, Hier encore), Jacques Brel (Ne me quitte pas, Vesoul), and La Rua Madureira by Pauline Croze.

Thanks for this! I have to learn French and usually music is one of my biggest inspiration as well for learning new languages, but I struggle to find good songs in French though, I will check these out! A cool song I discovered here in France is "La tribu de dana" of Manau, if you want to listen to something kinda particular :) Cheers

Nice collection, Sir! I knew some of them and learned of some new ones.
Off the top of my head, here are some artists in the order I discovered them, with a good introductory song for each one:
    1. Desireless - Voyage, voyage
    2. Niagara - Quand la ville dort
    3. Etienne Daho - Des attractions désastre
    4. MC Solaar - Galaktika
    5. Les Négress Vertes - Voilà l’été
    6. Mano Negra - Paris la nuit
    7. Hector Zazou (feat. Anneli Drecker & Gérard Depardieu) - I'll Strangle You (includes words from Artur Rimbaud)
    8. Natacha Atlas - Soleil d'Egypte
    9. Yves Montand - À bicyclette
    10. Beirut - Nantes
That was just the tip of the iceberg. I also collect records & CDs, and I still have some cassettes and MDs in boxes.
    Enjoy!

1- Damien Saez - Kasia. His songs are lyrics first so that might be helpful.
    2- Alcest - Autre Temps.
    3- Les Discrets - Après l'ombre.
    4- L'imperatrice - Erreur 404

Ariane Roy - Le ciel est en place OR Ce Qu'il Reste (Really, really unknown artist but so talented. Probably my favorite that I've stumbled upon.)
Coeur de Pirate - Place de la Republique (Wood & Wires sur YT)
ZAZ - She has a GREAT acoustic cover of Dans Ma Rue by...
    Edith Piaf? No love? :)
The Lost Fingers (On Va S'aimer cover is great)
Charles Aznavour - Les deux guitares
    Oxmo Puccino - 365 jours
    I could go for days....

I am french and never heard about any of them. So here is my contribution
    - coeur de pirate : adieu, salement romantique (she is canadian but her songs are lovely)
    - Christine & the queen : la marcheuse, nuit 17 a 52, comme si ( her songs are more for advanced French speakers because their are really poetic ans cover beautiful themes. She make an English version of each of her songs so make sure it is the french version)
Claudio Capeo: un homme debout, ( he plays an old french music instrument called accordeon)
Frero delavega: le champ des Sirènes ( this songs makes me cry each time)
    Indila - deniere danse
Vianney - sans le dire (best breakup song ever )
I will stop otherwise I am unstoppable

I'm sitting here in the dark, silently giggling to myself over your ‘reenactment’ of listening to Beethoven. Thank you.
This video was a bit of a surprise. I ended up becoming much more invested than I anticipated, even unsure at first whether to watch it or not. I really dig the clip you showed at number five. I'll have to check that out. Also, it kind of sounds to me from this video that French lends itself surprisingly well to rapping.
By the way, does Chopin count? 😉

I'm going to drop in some names here that I haven't seen in other comments:
    - Eddy de Pretto ('Kid' for example)
    - Fatals Picards, I'd guess it can be harder to understand, but you'll get to learn French sarcasm! (They did quite a funny Eurovision performance as well)
    - Superbus
    - Bénabar
    - Zazie tends to have nice lyrics ('Je suis un homme' for example)
Older but Jean-Jacques Goldmann has a ton of great songs.
Also songs from musicals such as 'Notre Dame de Paris' or 'Starmania' are quite well known and have nice lyrics.

Thank you for sharing. That sounds very interesting. I think I never heard about 8 of the 10. Pomme comes in my recommandations (that's the French word) but I never listen to anything from her. I know the music of Les Choristes to be good but I don't even know the name of the persons.

Yanis Kabyle I learnt French when I was like 4 mainly by watching cartoons, than by reading books when I grew up, so I can’t really give you any advise on how to to learn it as an adult, but I would say it all depends on your level now. If you’re an absolute beginner start with vocabulary (which shouldn’t be too hard, European languages share a lot of similar words, you only realize this benefit when you try to learn a language from a totally different group), and basic grammar. French « conjugaison » and spelling can be tricky, I wouldn’t advice to start learning them until you get used to the language a little bit.
Now if you already have some notions, you can improve by reading. I think it’s hard to grasp the complex grammatical notions of any language just as theory so I have always been fond of discovering them on actual material, watch some French TH-cam too and turn on French subtitles at first, translate short stories or songs from French to your native tongue, write short stories in French, try to find a French speaking friend to practice with. Ask them to correct your mistakes.
Ironically all the advices I’m giving you here come from the way I learnt English which I did a little bit later in life x) it’s very subjective but I believe reading helps a lot, and don’t be afraid to try hard books when you feel ready for that!

    @Tomanita 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Great list! I'm going to mention some of my favorite French songs in an upcoming video, what a coincidence😅 We don't have the same taste in music but you might like Angèle's songs ("Perdus" is my favorite one). Also, I really like the song Switzerland wanted to send to Eurovision ("Répondez-moi" by Gjon's Tears).

    • @daysandwords
      @daysandwords  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Très bien !
I really don't have narrow enough tastes for anyone to be sure that I don't like the same music as them. I mean I luuuuuurve Beethoven. And Tchaikovsky, and Chopin. But also Rage Against the Machine, and Suzane (the semi-rapper/singer I mentioned in this video).
I also love some EuroVision songs. I really liked Belgium's entry from about 4 years ago "What's the Pressure?" and then on the other side, I loved Estonia's from 2018 (the opera singer in the dress that they spent like half the country's GDP on haha).
Basically, I dunno if it's a thing in Switzerland, but in Australia, it's very popular to say that you like lots of styles of music... but I have met few people who actually do like as many styles as I do.
I will look up your favourites, thank you. :-) Actually I should have checked Switzerland given what Belgium ended up giving us.

      Days of French 'n' Swedish
Ah, well, I guess you might like some of them🤔 My taste in French music is actually a bit different than my taste in English music. According to Spotify I like to listen to Francoton (the French version of Reggaeton😅).
Eurovision is great (more ridiculous than anything but that’s why I love it). I liked Estonia's entry too (tbh, every song was better than the "winner").
My favorite for this year was Lithuania. Too bad they can't compete with the same songs next year.
Yes, I think Swiss people also say that they like different types of music but they only listen to pop and rap (unless they're clearly only into punk or something like that).

Do you mean Unit 42? La Cavale is used in like the 4th episode of that but not for the opening (so you might mean another one?) But even for that, I had to wait for the credits to check what the music was. 99% of people aren't going to do that...
