    I don't understand why Serena is receiving so much hate here. We will never understand what it is like to be in her shoes. She will always be one of the most respected and renowned athletes in all of sports. Even though she may not admit it, she had to be feeling immense pressure throughout the tournament. Everything on ESPN and in the news was that she was playing for the Grand Slam at her home slam at the US Open nonetheless. You could tell how much pressure she was feeling every match she played by watching her intensity and her expressive emotions. She wanted to win so badly and to see her lose at that point in the tournament to an opponent she had never lost to was inspiring and heartbreaking all at the same time. Champions fall, but rise again. Thank you Serena Williams - you are, in my opinion, the GOAT.

      It was not just playing in home slam, she was extremely disappointed that she didn't want to talk about it, because she knew her chance to get the calendar year grand slam was ended right there and might not ever happen again...

      Because she's faking it, we all know she felt pressure and that she was there to win the Grand Slam or any GS tournament to chase the all-time record, otherwise she would have retired much earlier.

      She's just faking it, she's been telling these kind of lies all her carreer during press conference because it's her way to deal with the media and it works for her and her sister. Vinci is the opposite, she's honest and tells you everything. We all know that Serena felt pressure to win. And also, she doesn't think of Vinci as "inspiring", she thinks that she's an opponent she should beat every time.

    Declining to answer how disappointing it was to her told everyone how devastating it was. You are two games away from winning a calendar year Grand Slam and you lose to a 300-to-1 underdog. Tremendous heartbreak. Sure it may seem like she was a sore loser, but I think it would be tough, very tough for any of us to understand how she felt. If I could guess, I would that like all great athletes (JORDAN, JETER, a pre-scandal TIGER WOODS) she hates to lose, PERIOD. That is why she has won the most Majors in an open era. Everybody simply cannot be Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson after the Duel in the Sun (British Open, 1977), walking arm-and-arm in graciousness.

      Vinci in an interview in Italy said that Serena didn't even say hi to her when they met again in a restaurant in Australia. Nobody likes to lose, but sportsmanship is a plus for an athlete, especially if you want to be an insipiration for kids, and Serena clearly doesn't have that. One can justify that by saying she's the best ever and she always has high expecations, but those are just excuses. Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Steffi all have 20+ slams (and counting) and never acted like her.

  • @Official.tadiwa

    People don't understand that part of what makes an ALL-TIME amazing champion is that such a person utterly hates to lose. That's part of what drives them to be so out-of-this-world exceptional. No, she is not particularly gracious, here, at all, but she had just lost a tremendously important, historical match and didn't feel like faking her way through an interview by spouting a bunch of platitudes. It's good to keep that in mind. Competitive people know exactly what she feels.

      @milvao3400 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      She also threatened a line judge at the 09 US Open and put on that show against Osaka always with those old excuses. And yes, you can be competitive, winning big tournaments and even be a legend without threatening anyone or acting like that. Federer, Nadal and Djokovic don't act like that.

    • @milvao3400
      @milvao3400 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Always the same excuse for everything. She can act like that that because otherwise she wouldn't be the athlete that she is? That's nonsense. She can threaten line judges, she can offend an umpire, just because that's part of "being intense" on the court. That's just bullshit. Have Federer, Nadal or Djokovic ever done that? So let's just stop with this stupid excuse. You don't need to be like that to be a champion. She's just not a good example of sportmanship, regardless of how many titles she has won. Period.

    "I thought she played the best tennis of her carreer, you know, uhh....she played literally out of her mind"...not very classy to describe the oponent's win. It's not that Serena should be happy or anything, she is legit for being sad / angry after a tough loss, but showing class in defeat is an essential trait of a true champion. Why don't we hear similar things from Rafa or Federer? Or Graf or Navratilova for that matter? Because they are true champions off the court too. Serena may have passed Graf's GS record (not the weeks at No1 though), but she will never overtake the German in class.

      @regulusarcturus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lol, did you even watch tennis when Steffi Graf played or are you pulling things out of your ass?
      Graf was a much bigger lose loser than Serena.

    • @regulusarcturus
      @regulusarcturus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Illya Kuryakin She will, don't worry. Serena's contemporaries have always praised her as a person, not only as a tennis player.
      As for miss Graf, you clearly didn't follow tennis during the 90s. Graf used to smash her racquets, swear on court, give cold, bitchy slaps at the net instead of handshakes, she never hugged or smiled at her opponents like Serena, she was a sore ass loser in the press room and she gave 0 fucks when Monica was stabbed by her fan. The majority of players visited or at least called Monica to ask how she was, while Steffi was busy complaining that she had to share the #1 with Monica in the rankings due to her absence.
      Serena has inspired countless young girls to play tennis, inducing her current colleagues like Stephens, Keys, Osaka, Gauff, etc. Plenty of players have praised Serena off the court like Petkovic, Mladenovic, Ostapenko and Puig. Anisimova said Serena approached her in the locker room after she saw her crying after a loss and gave her some great advice. Serena, along with Venus helped several girls who didn't have sponsors team up with Nike. Timea Bacsinszky told reporters how Serena called her to tell her how inspired she was by her story and comeback. The list goes on.
      Not everything happens on the court.
      You seem quite obsessed with Serena and you're in almost every video of hers. You should find another hobby, hating on successful people is not a cute look.

    • @reid8588
      @reid8588 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree with you in part. I often found that when Serena lost matches, especially matches she was expected to win, that she discredited her opponent by saying they played better than they ever have before. Meaning they were lucky. When it comes to how modest or humble she is compared to the Roger, Novak and Rafa, Roger and Novak are not always gracious losers. Rafa is the most humble in my opinion.

Whatever prevented her from achieving it, whether Roberta outplayed her, whether Serena played poorly or was nervous, the fact remains that the opportunity has been lost forever. Boy, she came so close. I sympathize with her. However, on the other side of the coin, we have Roberta who was so gracious with her win, apologizing to the American people for having robbed Serena of her glorious & historical moment. People don't like her because she's fake, when there's even no point in being that fake. She felt pressure, she wanted to win the Grand Slam... what's the point of staying in a press conference room for three minutes only saying that you never felt pressure in your life and you're perfectly fine not winning it because you have already won Wimbledon, and saying that your opponent played the best tennis of her carreer to beat you. Roberta just played an average match and Serena had her chances. What Roberta did at the end made the difference: she closed the match with two half volley winners. And Serena couldn't do anything but watch. They both had pressure, for very different reasons. Every player who loses has his own reasons to be mad, but not many of them show up at press conferences acting like this. Not even those who were in the same position as her (Djokovic)
