Duck Hunting Texas | Public Land Mixed Bag (7 Species)

  • We headed out to Texas last week to see if a couple big fronts rolling through the central flyway would bring about some of the duck hunting action I saw out there last year. We spent our first evening scouting and found lots of mallards, pintails, gadwall, and shovelers using the public land where I had done some kayak duck hunting last season. The following morning was everything we could've hoped for with decoying greenheads, trophy birds, and lots of variety in the mixed bag. We ended the day with 7 different species to start the trip and lots of Texas sized smiles. Hope you enjoy!

i love how you love shovelers, here in stuttgart arkansas there the trashiest trash duck around, and we don’t have to try to decoy them they just come right in the hole before we ever see them flying. i didn’t know they were hard to decoy.

If you don't mind my asking, which public land property where you at? It's been about 20 years since I've been duck hunting am I seven year old has all of a sudden decided that we need to go. We went out and scouted Granger last weekend and saw absolutely nothing and could not find a good area approachable by land. Granted we didn't cover the entire hunting area. So if anybody has any suggestions for that area, I'm open to hearing them. We're not trying to limit out or take anybody's spot. Just a couple of birds to appease him and give him a taste figuratively and literally. Thanks in advance
