Duck Hunting 2022 | Mixed Bag On A Hidden Pond! (Public Land)

- I've found that hidden areas on public land tend to produce some exceptional duck hunting so when I spotted a tucked away public pond on OnX, I was pretty stoked to see what it might produce. I scouted the pond right after opening day of the 2022 season and saw hundreds of mallards and wigeon using it, but didn't have time to get out there for a hunt until over a week later unfortunately. It was a long walk in even with our small decoy spread but Cory and I made it to the pond just in time for the morning flight to start kicking off. The action wasn't lights out but we had a good amount of ducks and geese work the pond and were able to get some decoying action from a mixed bag of birds. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks Sky! It has been an eye opening season for me on what I’m missing out on by not having a dog. Luckily Cory’s other female lab is currently pregnant so big things coming soon hopefully! What kind of birds have been moving down into SD so far?
@@HokeOutdoors Most of the local geese and ducks are south bound already. Seeing a good push of Canadas and some divers. Heard some flights of Specs same area of Cansdas and divers rafted up. I'm in S/E corner of SD. The main migration flight line is 30 miles west of me extending west to the Missouri River. Temps have been mild...all water is open

You seemed to be shooting at those ducks way out of range and wounding them and then you can’t find them. Why don’t you let them come into your decoys??? Anyone can shoot passing ducks.

Good to see a dog that does field trials actually work real hunts. The thing I’ve noticed is field trial dogs don’t have a soft mouth though.
Good shooting mate if change your carlson choke from IC to Modified .705 will kill all ducks even the long distances

How many pintails can you take a day? We have a 1 bird limit in Wisconsin.
It's one per day up here too, I believe Alaska is the only state where you can shoot more than one

I'm actually on year four with it now. I think it'll need a new recoil spring soon but it's been a workhorse with very few issues. I'm going to wait to get that new spring before I do another review though

@@luketh2 right I know a guy that is a ambassador for them and he gets everything 50% off. I think they also got a bunch of free stuff also. I asked him if they were worth he said the warranty was worth it he said before becoming a ambassador he had a older pair of waders that started leaking at the zipper. They changed zipper styles and could no longer repair his old ones so they sent him a brand new pair free of charge.

Any tips for water swatting had a hen teal 25 yards from the blind had in #2’s and it fell all around her.
I always hold a little high blocking the bird with the barrel.
I've had mixed results with water swats using #2s, just not quite enough pellets to get the brain shot you need consistently. If you've got a lot of teal around I'd trying using #4s or even #6s
