      @joshuakim5240 5 ปีที่แล้ว +372

      That's kind of debatable because of the reason for it's current placement, which has little to do with Ho-Oh's actual strengths. Rock types, Rock coverage attacks, Stealth Rocks (or just the existence of the Rock type in general) are nonexistant in Ubers yet are extremely prevalent everywhere else, meaning that Ho-Oh in the weirdest reversal of tiering is worse the lower the tier its used in, but better the higher the tier.
      Ironically, attempting to use Ho-Oh in any tier that isn't Uber is suicidal due to how Rock-heavy those tiers are, which is the extreme reversal of everything else.

      @@joshuakim5240 Ou is not that rock heavy tho. Tyranitar is the only relevant rock type, and only lando-t, excadrill and garchomp really use rock coverage. I feel like Ho-Oh would destroy OU since its so fat that it can setup on basically anithing that does not have rock coverage. And defensively would be even worse. Just imagine a toxapex, ferrothorn, Ho-Oh core.

    • @tordellinodellacoopdimassa7996
      @tordellinodellacoopdimassa7996 5 ปีที่แล้ว +81

      @@joshuakim5240 ah, and it also has a double stab that is absolutely perfect to destroy the tier. Fire flying stab+ground coverage has no switch-ins, it can't be burnt since it is a fire type. Only garchomp could really do something to stop the bird, but it won't take a lot of brave birds to take chomp out.

    I recently competed in an online tournament using Ho-oh. It had Sacred Fire, Brave Bird, Earthquake and Natural Gift with an adamant nature. Why Natural Gift you may ask? I saw that if holding a Leichi berry, it becomes a grass type attack and has a base attack of 80. It was used to counter water, rock and ground types. I know it sounds outlandish and gimmicky but it can help in most situations and catch opponents off guard.

    I don't play competitive Pokemon (though I've picked up a passing knowledge of it over time, in no small part thanks to this series) but... does the community as a whole feel good about Stealth Rocks, or does it get a lot of hate? It seems like a move that defines the meta to such an extent and makes such a large portion of cool Pokemon unusable in high tiers that it seems like a real bummer.
    (I know that I really, really hate similarly limiting/meta-reducing things in games that I play competitively.)

    • @bruhbruh4329
      @bruhbruh4329 5 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      It's a love it/hate it affair. Some love it because it and spikes can put stall teams on the back foot, forcing them to either take damage on switching to pivots or risk spending a turn not healing or defense boosting. Others hate it because it basically forced almost every fire or flying type in the whole game down a tier or two because of how prominent it was.

    Some important notes about Ho-Oh's place in VGC 2019. Its mainly a rain team pokemon. Access to sacred fire lets it protect kyogre from steel/grass threats like kartana and ferrothorn. Super effective damage along with the chance to burn them if they manage to survive it in the rain is pretty huge. Access to tailwind also helps kyogre use water spout to its full potential. Another purpose for Ho-Oh was to check xerneas. It natually takes hit from boosted xerneas because of its huge special bulk and resistance to fairies. It sometimes ran whirlwind or roar though to force it out, since offensively it has few options vs xerneas.

      This pick upsets me, the interruption squad already had their fun with Sandslash.

    You are telling me you can simply EV Ho-oh to live a super effective +2 110 base power thunder from 126 spatk Xerneas? That is so disgusting.

    I still remember one of Ho-oh's entry: anyone saw Ho-oh, his or her dream will came true. But Ash never won any league pass gen 2😂

    Me before the video: Ho-Oh + stealth rocks= Fried Chicken
    Me after the video: *adds Ho-Oh to Ubers team on showdown*

    I named my Ho-Oh "Finger licking good" on Showdown. It's still my best name.

    People who complain about rocks are the same people who haven't actually used or played against ho-oh with regen

      @Victor Estrella volcarona would be banned from OU if it took anything less than it did, zard is a mon which I agree deserves less damage from rocks. Ice types would dominate everywhere without rocks in all tiers

      @Victor Estrella thanks for the reply Victor, although I would like to point out that none of those mons you mentioned check volc. With the right z move none of these switch in. T-tar dies to swarm bug buzz-z. Mega pinsir takes 50% from rocks and doesn't switch in. Ice types are no joke, the only reason you think they are bad is because of SR. Mega-Glalie being strong in Ou is an example of 'weak' ice mons that still shred even with SR.

    Is Ho-oh better in gen 8 with the addition of heavy-duty boots? I know Pokémon like Volcarona and Moltres became more viable, but I don't play Ubers enough to know.

    Well, just like Celebi, this bird indeed rose from the ashes once it got its dream ability, it definitely shined in competitive:)
