  • A lot of people are commenting on the Jordan Peterson/Elon Musk interview, but no one that I've seen has commented on the way that Jordan Peterson showed Elon Musk's philosophy is deeply supported by one of Jesus' most famous sermons.

    I used to have daily panic attacks for years. Full blown panic attacks sweating in office at work. Jesus helped with my anxiety more than any anti depressant or psychotherapy. Just a fact. My psychologist couldn’t believe how much better I did once I began following Jesus and tried to grow in holiness.

    Jordan Peterson has the most interesting takes on the Bible of anyone these days. Turns out they are just a fresh rephrasing of what Christians have always believed at least implicitly. Needs to take his own advice though with respect to God though, lol 🙏

    I always thought of the sermon on the Mount as Jesus trying to get the people listening and Bible readers to realize just how much they need a Savior. The standard of good we set pales in light of the goodness of God in which we all fall short

    • @LoganS91
      @LoganS91 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are right, but it is also what Peterson is saying too. The Pharisees thought they had reached the pinnacle of goodness. Jesus sheds light that there is much more work to do. For those who listened this gave them a higher goal to work toward.
      Peterson correctly identifies the underlying spirit of the sermon. AIM at what is highest. Treat others as if they are made in the image of God. And focus on the moment.

    • @ryanrobertsii
      @ryanrobertsii หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@LoganS91 yes maybe. I think I hesitate to agree with him because it sounds like he thinks salvation is an aspirational goal instead of a gift. You even say "a higher goal to work toward" but I feel like the more important take away is that no matter how hard we work we can't save ourselves. We can't even be "good" people without the grace of Jesus

    • @LoganS91
      @LoganS91 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@ryanrobertsii You shouldn’t worry. Unsaved people cannot hear the truth, because they do not have the spirit of truth. Those who understand the words of Peterson already have Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. And if a person understands and hears Peterson, they will also believe in Jesus. But Petersons words do soften hard intellects toward accepting truth.
      I’ve never seen anyone who have whole heartedly accepted Petersons words but not believed in Jesus. But I see that people who are touched by his words do come to Christ. And that is telling.

    To answer your closing question; I think I can admit that every time I’ve turned away from God, I’ve turned inward into bodily pleasures.
    Then on the other hand, recently I’ve noticed practising virtue helps me quell the need for that pleasure. Although I realize I need to be in a state of grace to fully receive certain virtues.

    13:55 No, *_not at all!_* Instead, Jesus is showing the need to repent from trusting in our self-righteousness (which is as filthy rags to God) towards belief in Jesus *_alone,_* for our salvation.
    He lifted up the pristine law to stop every proud mouth, and that all the world may be guilty before God (Romans 3:19-20). The law is not against the promises of God, but it could not make us righteous and give us life, but the law is a schoolmaster to bring us (to the end of ourselves, and) unto Christ (Galatians 3:21-24).
    Once someone has put his faith in Jesus alone for salvation, he is sealed with the Holy Spirit and is a child of God. And believers have *_not_* received the spirit of bondage again *_to fear;_* but they have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father (Romans 8:14-15).

    I think your definition of “entropy minimization” is serviceable. “Trying to bring order”, or “reduce chaos”. That’s okay, but I think there is an even more helpful and accurate way to talk about it.
    Entropy, in a more scientifically accurate sense is “the measure of the amount of usable energy available in a system.”
    This value in our universe is always decreasing on a universal metric, as far as our observations have found. This is why we understand “entropy” to be an “increase of chaos”, because “usable energy” is always in some form of molecular order, until it is used up. Think of wood burning, for example. The order of the wood and the oxygen etc. is used up by the heat of the flame.
    So, with this in mind, “entropy minimization” could be understood as “the maximization, and optimization of all available usable energy”.
    It isn’t just “reduction of chaos”, but it is “optimization of order”.
    I guess this only helps if you are into getting really picky and precise with the semantics, and that’s sort of something I love doing haha

    _"Since love of God is the highest felicity and happiness of man, his final end and the aim of all his actions, it follows that he alone observes the divine law who is concerned to love God not from fear of punishment nor love of something else, such as pleasure, fame, ect., but from the single fact that he knows God, or that he knows that the knowledge and love of God is the highest good"._
    And of course, god, for Spinoza, was nothing more than nature. Knowledge of god, for Spinoza, is knowledge of nature, it is knowledge of nature that gives you relief, that gives you beatitude, it is the pursuit of knowledge of nature that gives you purpose and happiness. It is also the knowledge of nature that gives you the power to establish "order" and fight off chaos and entropy... Too bad Spinoza was persecuted by the church... Like many influential intellectuals of his era...

      So Spinoza believed that God is nature? Does God have a mind or was he just trying to resolve apparent contradictions between naturalism and his understanding of religion?

      Interesting discussion. May I ask: why are you an atheist? Or alternatively: if the claims of Christianity were true, would you commit your life to Jesus Christ? What I think is important to mention is that God is more than just nature, but a Person with an intelligent mind. And the central premise of Christianity is that this Person went to a cross. In the words of John Lennox, "this at minimum tells me that God is not distant from human suffering but has Himself become part of it." If you should know the first thing about God, it should be that. And if you put God first for any reason, the primary reason should be that we love God because God first loved us.
      Some song lyrics come to mind:
      Some people think You're distant, just some words on a page
      That You're nothing more than fables handed down along the way
      But I've seen You part the waters when no one else could pull me from the deep
      That's who You are to me

      First, not to *"jesus christ"...* Jesus was a man. Second, yes, if the claims of christianity were true, I would be committed to god.

      Sure... Are there no persons with intelligent minds in nature ?

    It's great to wake up to the Sermon on the Mount! Jordan: "Make the presumption that other people have the same intrinsic value as you do." Elon: "Well, we have to be careful about that one." Jordan goes on to say that they would discuss that further in a moment. I would like to hear that discussion, because Elon's response indicates that he doesn't believe, or doesn't want to believe, that everyone is as intrinsically valuable as him. I hear a lot of "anti-wokeism" among conservatives without a true definition of the term "woke"...they just label it "Marxist" and dismiss it. Most people know nothing about Marxist philosophy except that it's "all bad". The "label & dismiss" fallacy shuts down the conversation. A true dialog needs to be had, because the original meaning of "woke" is, in its simplest terms, the belief in that universal intrinsic value of all human beings, which has been denied to certain groups of people throughout human history. To be "woke" is to be aware of that fact. That's all "woke" means. At the end of the day, both fascism (far right) and communism (far left) deny intrinsic human worth. That narrow path in between is where we ought to be. I would love to see you interview a proponent of wokeism and open up some real dialog.

    In no way did Jordan Peterson at all tie Elon’s ideologies to Jesus. He says that he is “religious.” you are bending a message to something it isn’t and I find this type of bending and word play to be extremely annoying. Mostly because you are taking what was said completely out of context. To be religious is to believe in SOMETHING that doesn’t mean it has anything to do with Jesus. In fact Peterson goes even FARTHER to specify that elon is a humanist and his “religion” is the augmentation of humanity. Did you even listen to the conversation? Peterson ALSO uses stories about religion which Elon was really not that particularly interested in. Stop putting words in people’s mouths to serve your own marketing scheme for the gospel, thanks. Your video and a thumbnail is a lie therefore it is sin by your own principles, btw.
